It’s weird how no one is addressing the fact that illusion is way less useful then originally thought, instead of zoroark revolving around illusion it’s pretty much optional and that’s a bummer to me, so I agree with everything you said about it
To be fair, Illusion is VERY underwhelming in the main line games as well.
@@melindamuller4466 but at least zoroark’s kit revolved around it, in this game it kind of just exists and probably wasn’t added beyond anything other than fan service and the fact that it is zoro’s only ability
@@nojorooney I think it's pretty faithful to the games, that's all. I know the video on here made it really central, but already back then I knew that that would never be the actual implementation. No one actually uses Zoroark for Illusion, it's a gimmick that may work at the beginning with the right team, but any most any strategy falls as the game progresses. You use Zoroark as a fast attacker, and for fast U turn.
@@melindamuller4466 I’ve seen a couple people do it before this video but I don’t actively seek out zoroark in competitive play so I didn’t know but I still kinda feel like they could have made zoroark’s illusion more important instead of just a fun gimmick because it’s supposed to be more than just a fun gimmick, zoroark is the master of illusion, I’m not mad about it since I’m not even gonna main zoroark but I feel like being true to the lore is priority over being true to competitive play
@@nojorooney It is in the lore, yeah, but Gamefreak kinda dropped the ball first here.
Mother of Arceus Sableyes moveset is incredible. When it comes to movesets Sableye is the winner of the three in my eyes

As a Zoroark fan, I really wish that Illusion had more of an impact in the overall kit, since that ability defines the Pokemon so much. But at the same time, I feel that the reliance on Illusion in the main Pokemon games really drags Zoroark down because it's more often a miss than a hit. Especially no thanks to Team Preview destroying any sense of surprise Zoroark could've brought in a battle. So, I'm rather fine with Illusion being this optional ability that can be used to catch careless players off-guard and Zoroark just being a constant dasher. It's a bit like how Monkey King in Dota 2 has the ability to disguise himself as a tree, courier, rune, or items, but his kit is based much more around jumping across trees and pouncing onto unsuspecting enemies. The disguise never really plays out well in games, at best netting MK a free kill on a newbie or careless player, but most often resulting in MK feeding the enemy.
Though I will hope that Illusion as it is in Unite works out in practice, and if not that the ability gets reworked to be more effective. Either by going the route you designed or something else. I personally think a good approach would be for Illusion to have Zoroark copy the appearance of an ally, in addition to wild Pokemon, which I feel would make the ability very effective in psyching out the enemy. For instance, they could see a seemingly weak Pokemon scoring points on the top of the map while the rest of the team are down, one goes off to deal with that "split-pusher" only to get dashed into oblivion by Zoroark. Among other mind games.
Well keep in mind that while yes, team preview does kinda show the opponent the Zoroark, the player can still play mind games to use it effectively. Illusion doesn't drag it down, you just gotta be smart about it.
@@TheMalikp1 I don't think it's something worthwile beyond the start of the battle. Any small difference in chip damage, maybe a difference in the way steath rock deal damage, etc. ruins any surprise.
@@melindamuller4466 That's assuming every opponent you face has stealth rock. And we have items and Pokémon to counter it. It's really boils down to strategy of what you're working with.
@@TheMalikp1 Stealth rock is one of the most crucial moves in pokemon singles, and Zoroark is not worth it in doubles, basically at all. If you run Heavy Duty Boots, that's already a mon you can't be disguised as, or it will immediately tell the foe it's the Zoroark when you take the damage (same with spikes, toxic spikes, but that's less common), and if you wear it, it's even worse because now you can only disguise as Pokemon with magic guard or HDB themselves. It's a nice gimmick, but not Zoroarks full competitive identity.
@@melindamuller4466 You're still assuming a lot here my man. It may be a crucial item, but that doesn't mean every opponent you face is going to have it, especially if they run a theme with their team (hey, that rhymed. I guess I'm a poet and didn't even know it, lol.). You're focusing too hard on that one move that not a lot of Pokémon can learn, let alone any Pokémon that can learn it will have it. Pokémon teams isn't about being overreliant on what Pokémon can do, it's all of your Pokémon, that's the concept of a team. Unless you're doing one or two or anything less than a full team, than I can see it struggling in that.

I'm pretty sure Sableye's moves were mixed up. From the leaked gameplay I've seen Thief upgrades into Knock Off or Shadow Sneak and Astonish upgrades into Confuse Ray or Feint Attack I might be wrong though but that's what I remember

Apparently, at least on the test server, Draining Kiss is busted on Clefable. It's more like an aura of effect, so you hit multiple opponents, stuff like bees/bears/birds heal a ton that way.

You think Jolteon should be Melee? Being a Speedster means its has to be Melee.

@@rextheboxer1163 I think it’s better off just being an Attacker, since Attackers are just Ranged Speedsters. Likewise that Speedsters are Melee Attackers.

I think Sableye is mean, but does neither big damage, nor has it massive survivability.
