Alexander is a fortress because he represents hope's desire to protect and support his friends but because he is a kid he doubts himself more than anyone else, Having a giant fortress by his side might just be the thing he needs to boost himself a little confidence.
I love how the tiniest party member summons a fucking giant.
Alexander is like that big brother that cheers you on when you think all is lost. Alexander is his sword and sheild. When all is on the line, he is your castle/tank and will protect you with all his power.
This is probably Hope's turning point. He becomes such a badass later, for a young guy. Standing before race cars, with Alexander backing him. Encouraging the whole group also on various occasions. Such ownage.
And I really like him in my party and he owns the monsters with his Blizzaga, Waterga or Firaga. The boom of those spells followed by the staggering and killing of everything on screen... Just fits.
YES. And his awesomeness wouldn't seem so great if....he hadn't grown into it. People complain about how bitchy he is, but it just makes his character arc much more pointed. I think of all the characters, Hope changes the most in this story.
I'd say this was his second turning point the first would have to be chapter 7

Y'know what's ironic. All the girl characters (Lightning, Vanille and Fang) have male Eidelons (Odin, Hecatoncheir and Bahamut) while all the males (Snow and Sazh) characters excluding Hope have female Eidelons (Shiva Sisters and Brynhildr) but what's MORE ironic is that the smallest of the entire group (meaning Hope) has the biggest Eidelon of them all O.o LOL Little man, BIG Eidelon
For those who played Final Fantasy series. Alexander is like our big brother. =)

it wouldn't be very interesting if every character starts out to be a badass!
The more I look into this game the more it feels like a solid entry in the franchise. The characters weren’t likable in the beginning. They were all very flawed and pretty selfish, but through the story they grew so much. To me that’s what makes a good story. When the characters learn and grow and change.
The sequels were unnecessary though, but they gave us Caius sooooo.......no complaints here.
Yeah i totally agree and also the entire lore of XIII saga is something which just blows my mind. It's so complex and vast.
@@s-dragonxiii1021 Tell me about it! I went on a wikipedia spiral until 4 am just reading about the entire lore and the thought these developers and writers put into this game is impeccable. It's on par with FFX's lore for me too
Even though I despised Hope this boss battle I realised Fang, Lightning and Hope work really well together
2:00 after serah turned into crystal, lightning only ever smiles at hope. Its as if after she lost her little sister, she gained a little brother during this journey. the fact that she's always cold to everyone aside from hope.
I feel having hope around triggered her big sister instincts like with serah, and becomes a softie only to him
the same thing with snow actually. when snow and hope had to partner up, hope forced him to realize alot the sad truths, and that he's also just alot of talk.
snow realizes that he's a scared kid dragged into all this chaos. and with lightning kinda being his sister in law, and lightning caring about hope, in the end he wants to protect him too. he pretty much also sees him as a younger brother.
It's been years, but I still think Hope's scene with Snow in Palumpolum would've been the best point to have the Alexander fight.
Alexander has an Al Elric and Iron Giant feel to it
They should have kept the melodramatic music going during the battle!! It would have been so awesome! You know, like keeping the emotion up. Kinda like what they did with the Jenova Life battle after Aeris was killed? Her theme was playing in the background. I love when games do that....
The Jenova Life battle had one distinct difference from this fight: Aeris was still dead during it. Her death wasn't going to change and the thought of it permeated the psyches of those who fought.
I think the change in music here was very important. It signified Hope's change from "I give up" to "I'll fight my fate!" Keeping the Sustained By Hate theme would have signified that Hope hadn't recovered from his depression. And if that was the case, why would he fight against Alexander? In FFXIII, Eidolons show up when you've given up hope. They offer a way out. A quick and semi-painless end to your torment. If you don't recover your will to live when you see one, you have no reason to fight against it.
Keeping the Sustained By Hate theme running would only be appropriate if other party members fought against Alexander while Hope simply knelt in the background, defeated. The first stage of the boss fight could have been them trying to get Hope to wake up and see that he still has a reason to live. Then, when you finish the first stage, a cutscene shows one of the party almost getting obliterated by Alexander, only for Hope to show up and stop it. Then the boss fight could really get going.
But that's just my take on things.

I wish when I'm having a bad day that a giant robot would spawn from my mind.
This fight was so goddamn cool, he kept wrecking my shit until I libra'ed him and figured out how to make him yield, then died on purpose and built a set of Paradigms to counter him. "The game plays itself" my ass, this shit was tough and awesome

The Analects on the Goddess Etro suggest that Eidolons are, in fact, created by her and are her messengers, "to deliver hope when all was lost".
Now it is clear for everyone!
I find it ironic how the one who is a liability is able to summon a beast. You would think that Lightning would be the one with the beast or Vanille.

Three mobiles, a flyer, a tank, and a defensive summon. It hits all angles well.

@Scaltt I totally don't blame you. The one thing I wish I would have done was play through the whole game with subtitles on because by God, I was so damn confused as to what Orphan was saying during the last encounter.
Not to mention the damn Chocobo Chick...it was CLEARLY on Dahj's head when he was crystallized but the next angle shows him on Sahz. And the ending cinematic? WHERE THE FUCK DID IT COME FROM? WAS IT CRYSTALLIZED? It couldnt;.it's not a L'Cie! I gave up. Game had great battles.
@AuraKshatriya9 You do know after you beat the game it allows you to unlock the final crystarium trees and you can go back to gran pulse.
i like how everyone gets vehicles out of their summons but Hope gets a fortress and lasers xD makes me wonder who has the shortend of the stick
So...why does Vanille always sound like she's having sex? Most of the time I have to turn down the volume if I have someone over because I don't want them to think I'm watching porn.
Am I the only one who found Alexander pretty easy? Only took me a couple tries. Unlike Bahamut which took me like 20.

Alexander is very slow unlike all the other Eidolons.
My order of how hard they seem to me:
1. Odin
2. Hecatoncheir
3. Bahamut
4. Brynhildr
5. Alexander
6. Shiva
Bahamut was pretty easy for me. Alexander was very hard for me.
@magicalsource01 it's eidolon, and yeah he has the most gigantic eidolon in the game, besides Ragnarok.

The heroes stop for the night after something happens to Hope. And Sazh is getting frustrated that they've come so far but obtained so little. He's more surprised that they've actual been ALIVE for so long....
Looks like our next stop is Oerba. But where's that....?

Unlike the other Summons, Alexander doesn't actively attack you....surprising....
In what order do you fight the Eidolons?
I know it's
1. Shiva
2. Odin
and I know Hectaoncheir is fought before Alexander.
I had more trouble with Odin. It took me five tries to finally win the battle with him. Alexander only took two tries :P
I miss the summons that XV didn't have. Also, the last installment of this series screwed over Noel's relationship with Serah.

@MarodaXD Not really, cus Odin came out of nowhere with Hope and Lightning. And Vanille's came out when Fang found out that she was hiding her own lies.
Julio Diaz lightning was having a meltdown and I am sure vanille was about to have a breakdown.
Snow was about to die. Sazh lost hope. Fang had a meltdown. And hope lost his hope to live.
I think eidolons are there to stop the l'cie from killing each other (lightning and hope, and sazh and vanille, fang) or killing themselves (hope) or get killed (snow)
I think he's only attacking because the heroes attacked it FIRST. THEN it started hitting back. And HARD.

Is it me, or does the pronunciation of Eidolon irk a little? I thought the emphasis was on the first syllable, not the second...
AGREED. I always thought it was AYE-doh-luhn. They pronounce it aye-DOH-luhn. Ugh.
