    Awesome video 😀 I'm a appliance tech, The rubber hose corrodes a lot faster than a standard hose, we replaced a lot of the rubber hoses last year. The standard hose is a clear hose which makes it easy to locate the clog area or location.

    I found myself with a dishwasher that wouldn't drain (and a husband out of town). So, with some anxiety and resolve to at least try to fix it (I've never done anything like this), I watched two of your videos and did exactly what you said (and also pushed a paper towel through the pipe several times, as one reviewer suggested) and amazed myself...I fixed it! Oh the gunk that came out of that pipe and also out of the airgap, so gross. But it's fixed! Thank you!!

      LMAO I have had that same thing happen to me twice forgetting to remove it! Thanks for finding out what it was & letting me know. Seems kind of silly but they have to put that cap in there since not everyone has a dishwasher in their kitchen thus the cap. They should put a big warning on the directions right smack on the first page to remind installers about this for sure! See even the installers sometimes forget!

    The only way to see if the 18" black hose is clogged w/food thrown up over the months from the garbage disposal, is to remove the hose. Most of them need to be cleaned by ramming a piece of steel wool pad (Brillo is one brand) down the hose with a cut coat hanger, & hot soapy water. Ram it thru 2+ times. Or attach a stiff bottle brush to the coat hanger and run it up and down some times with soapy hot water. Soak this 18" black hose in hot soapy water for a half hour and repeat.
    He says the flow of water from the dishwasher thru the black hose "looks fine," but to me it looked like the hose could be 50%+ clogged. If the dishwasher can't empty really fast, soap residue will remain on your dishes, and unless you have a black or dark colored plate you won't see the residue and will just eat it with your food.

    Wish I had seen this yesterday. I had a drain problem. I removed the washer, removed the two motors and tested them and they both worked. Checked for clogged tubes, found nothing. Put all back together. Put some water in the washer, draining working perfectly. Re-installed the washer back in place, switched it on, no drain. Check the inlet on the disposal. The plug had not been removed. The disposal was installed 1.5 years ago. I was told the washer had been used several times since the disposal was install. Go figure.

    That clear drain line exits the dishwasher & in most cases then goes up & connects to an air gap that sets on your kitchen counter next to your kitchen faucet.....see it? You would have to get up under the sink & remove the clamp that connects the clear drain line to the air gap "Y" connections. Then put the end of the drain line in a bucket & turn your dishwasher back on the rinse cycle & see if the clog will come out there. Let me know if you get it unclogged. You can do it! Joe :0

  • @Malaperty
    @Malaperty Před 8 lety

    My dishwasher works fine. Dishes are clean, everything drains out, cycle completes. But when the water comes in to fill, it makes a very loud noise, which we have discovered will go away if we turn off the water supply all the way and immediately reopen it. It does this about 3 times each cycle. Bosch dishwasher. We disassembled the intake valve assembly last night and cleaned out all the buildup and put it back. The noise has lessened but still very loud.
    Before we figured out that turning the water off would stop the noise, I tried powering the whole machine off. It was completely off and the noise was still going until we turned the water supply off. Does that sound like we need a new inlet valve assembly?

    • @VideoJoeKnows
      @VideoJoeKnows  Před 8 lety

      +Malaperty OOh not sure. I would hate to tell you to change out your inlet valve only to find your noise still persists. Not sure of your issue. Next time you're at the hardware store go to the plumbing area & talk to a sales person & see if they might have any ideas for you. Let me know what you end up doing to stop your noise issue. thanks for your message! Joe :0

    • @VideoJoeKnows
      @VideoJoeKnows  Před 8 lety

      +Malaperty Hey thanks for sending me the quick vid! I listened to it. i think it might be an internal dishwasher issue since if you change the wall valve it seems to me the same thing will happen. Try turning the water pressure down a bit by turning the wall valve down & see what happens. Next time you go to The Home Depot or Lowes go to the appliance department & talk to a sales person & see what they might suggest. Take a quick vid of the same thing & put it on your cell phone so when you go to the store they can listen to it just like you did here by also turning the water off then back on. they might have an answer for you. Make sure you tell them the brand name of the dishwasher too. let me know what you end up finding out! Joe :0

    I need help Joe. I did your first few steps including the bucket and unclogging the part on the disposal with the toothbrush. I took out all the debris I could find but it still wont drain. The dishwasher drained into the bucket spectacularly so I believe the problem is a clog in the disposal. Is there anything else I can do? Or is there another way I can try and clean out the clog in the disposal?

    • @VideoJoeKnows
      @VideoJoeKnows  Před 10 lety

      I tried the same thing you did. I thought the dishwasher drain line was running pretty good too, when I ran it after disconnecting from the disposal & running the pipe into a bucket. But once I disconnected it fully & removed the entire black tube & washed it out in the sink was when I realized it was still plugged up pretty good. You might want to check that out again & see if the tube is really clear all the way. A pain to remove the entire black hose I know but better to check it out to make sure then not do that step at all. As for the garbage disposal being plugged. Could you p-trap under the disposal be plugged at all? Have you disconnected that & cleaned that yet?...as well as the rest of the drain line that goes toward the wall? That could be plugged. If all that is clear, you could have a clog inside your wall that is then backing up your disposal as well as the dishwasher. If you have a little hand snake that you get at the hardware store with a handle crank on it (1/4" cable), you could run that down & possibly clear the clog that way. That cable is no more than 25 feet long I think so if your clog is further down the drain line you would then have to call a plumbing service tech to come out & snake out that line. alot to check before calling him though. You might get lucky & clear it yourself. If you call the plumber now though, he could find it in your trap, etc. & you would say "I should've checked that out myself before calling a guy that I now have to pay $95 to"! Joe :0

      my hose is brand new so there is no clog in it. I will have to check the trap in the disposal i suppose. im a renter and the maintenance guy just put in a new dishwasher so its not the hose or the washer. the guy is not that smart and cant seem to fix it. i refuse to call a plumber because i am, as i said, a renter and it is my landlords responsibility. i suppose its their fault for buying a whole new washer when that wasnt even the problem. thanks though. you have been very helpful.

    Joe - I have had 3 dishwashers now all do the same thing; not drain. The first one i figured was just old. I threw it out. I bought a secondary unit and it ran but then didnt drain and something went wrong with the unit. I then bought a NEW Kenmore and installed it with a new drain line. It ran last night and then DID NOT DRAIN ! I had my garbage disposal replaced about a year ago but haven't had a dishwasher since. Any ideas??? THANKS !!!

    • @VideoJoeKnows
      @VideoJoeKnows  Před 10 lety

      Bum luck! Sorry. Did you check the drain line from the air gap on down to your garbage disposal? I've seen some dishwashers not drain because that portion of the drain line was full of gunk preventing the dishwasher to not drain properly. Check that out. Joe :0

    • @VideoJoeKnows
      @VideoJoeKnows  Před 10 lety

      even if it looks like it's draining into the garbage disposal, remove that line & clean it out. It could be 3/4 full of gunk & still letting you think it's working fine. The dishwasher then tries to drain & it can't drain all the way since the line is full of junk. Is your garbage disposal filling up with water & filling up the sink when your dishwasher is trying to drain? You could remove the garbage disposal trap & see if it's clogged. Check back if need be. Can you disconnect the black pipe that is connected to the disposal? If you can pull that off then you can get at that knock out. I wouldn't try to knock it the other way or it could get lodged in the drain line. I know you can do it. Keep at it! Joe :0
