This was helpful and I learned about the drains under my sink in general, given I never check things like this. They need to teach things like this in high school, with hands-on tests, instead of some of the pointless topics they cover
Dan you the man! I tried everything else, and thought my pump was gone but never thought to check the darn drain connection! This totally did the trick. I watched 5 other videos about trouble shooting a dishwasher that wont drain and not one mentioned this!!
Just what I thought, too! Glad it worked for you!
Many thanks for this - it fixed the E24 error on my Bosch DW. The cause? Sourdough starter. I made the mistake of washing out our sourdough starter Kilner jars in the DW - the starter is so sticky and difficult to clean. And the DW did such a wonderful job! Until it stopped working, that is The starter had set like cement. Well doh! I am now older and wiser. I certainly know much more about the innards of a dishwasher.
I'm glad ot helped.
Thank you! My dishwasher wasn’t draining. I followed a lot of videos and disconnected my dishwasher hose twice to check for a clog. Yours was the first video to show that the connection to the disposal might be the problem. My problem was in the air gap, but you pointed me in the right direction. Much appreciated!!!
Very pleasant video sir. One thing I'd like to add is it's a good habit/practice to clean the pea trap while you are already set up to do so. Yours actually has a drain plug built into the pea trap. It should be removed, inspected and cleaned every year or two. It takes a few mins and since you have a bucket, rags and opportunity, it just makes good sense to give it a quick look as well. Not only for normal build up but sometimes that blockage will sit in the pea trap, restrict flow and though it may seem to drain normally, over time it will/can worsen. If anyone isn't comfortable with removing the pea trap another method is, after you push your blockage into the pea trap, you install the drain plug and fill the sink about half way. Go to your restroom and grab your plunger, remove the drain plug and give it a good plunge. It'll help push anything that regular flow couldn't dislodge. I should add, IF any water you forced through the drain comes back up then STOP right away. It shouldn't but I have seen it more then once.. If you've already reinstalled the dishwater drainage hose then remove it so not to force any debris back into that line. Now, plug the tee that the dishwasher drainage hose was installed so water you are pushing through doesn't come blasting through that open tee at 50 miles an hr. You can plunge away. You may wanna add some vinegar, baking soda or store bought chemical to the sink water. If the results are the same you can leave it over night and see if the chemicals have loosened the blockage. If not then you will have to either snake the line or revert back to square one and remove the pea trap. Hope this helps anyone. Kind regards V
Thank you for your comment and suggestion.
Sorry - just seen this. This was my suggesting too.
Thank you for your comments. I agree that the timing would be good to do that. But I don't know how to change the video.
You saved me loads of £££. The u bend pipe (which dishwasher pipe attaches to) was full of ice lolly sticks, fat, and other horrible stuff. Would never have looked in that area if it wasnt for your vid. Thanks!! 😊
This solved my problem, and was much easier than other videos I'd watched. Thank you!
I tried it and it worked .I am a simple housewife who doesn’t know much about plumbing since my husband don’t do all this so I have to do .You have explained very well .
Been washing dishes by hand for 2 months! Did this and it works!!! Thanks so much! Very simple to follow your directions!!!:)
Thanks a lot brother. I had same problem and have fixed my dishwasher by watching your video. What a big help. Thanks again. May Allah bless you.
GREAT video! The last two days my dishwasher has had the same problem! My partner works away in the mines and I am NOT handy at all. Thankfully, your video was incredibly easy to follow and I had the problem fixed within 15 minutes! Thank-you!
Thank you! We were about to buy a new dishwasher, to replace our 10yr old, clogged/non draining Frigidaire Gallery dishwasher. I had tried cleaning all the filters, etc. to no avail. I was about to give up, and spring the several hundred $$ for a new machine, when I luckily happened upon your video. Used your technique... Wham Bam! Done, fixed, muy bueno! Thanks again.
I'm glad it.worked for you.
Thanks so much, My clog was in the exact same spot. Thanks to your video, it was a quick and easy fix. You have a nice down to earth demeanor
I just did everything you told me to do and my dishwasher is now draining. I'm so pleased with myself. I've never fixed a dishwasher before. Thank you, Dan. You just saved me a lot of money.
I'm really glad you were successful and saved yourself the money.
Thanks for this, had this problem with a similar plumbing setup, had already tried the baking soda and this seemed the logical next step - the connection and drain hose were blocked with broken glass and plastic. Dishwasher draining fine now.
for a potentially messy job, the music was quite delightful :)
Well Done Dan! I especially liked how you handled the "Professional Mess" when verifying the pump was working. My language during the pump verification step and resulting mess was not suitable for CZcams.
Dan, thank you so much. I solved the problem myself with this tutorial. Feeling happy about that!
I love your soft German inflected English!
Tried this, and it worked great! I was really over thinking the problem, and figured the clog was in the pump or whatnot. This took about 5 minutes, and my dishwasher's back to perfect working order.
Hi Peter, so happy it worked for you. Thank you for commenting.
Worked like a charm!!! Saved me lots of $, especially before Christmas!
Solved 2022...thanks for the great video. Flushed the drain hose now the dishwasher is working fine!
Thank you for posting it. It’s truly helped me to resolve my dishwasher problem and saved myself from hiring someone and paying arm and legs. Thanks
Thanks Dan! I was so pleased to put a screwdriver down the tube leading to the drainpipe and find some seeds and other debris. Dishwasher was immediately happy! Many thanks.
I'm really glad my video helped you.
Thank you for this video. You just saved me $100.00's of dollars. Your video was very easy to follow. Have a great day!!!
Thank you Dan! You have given me a boost of confidence. 👍🏻
I appreciated this video. It was very clear, and I didn't even have the sound on. I liked the written comments at opportune moments.
This video saved me a lot of work and money! Thanks!
This worked! This more informative than the other videos. Thank you! The clog was in the inlet to the sink drain. No one else mentioned that.
I'm glad my video helped you.
Thankyou, was helpful..the troubleshooting the company sent me was way too difficult.
I could be wrong, but a recent tip from a plumber... attach that drain hose going up under the sink and bending down to drain in the disposal. He said it would help to trap gunk in that bend of the drain hose, instead of flowing back down into the dishwasher and causing a funky smell.
Very interesting. Thank you for sharing this info.
100% correct
Thank you. Just used this to unclog my dishwasher drain hose now it works fine again. 😊
You're welcome. I'm glad the video helped you.
You had an easy fix on that one. I sure hope my DAMN-BURNIT dishwasher is as easy. Wife's been on my case to fix it, so I have been Prepped by watching YT videos like yours. Thanks for helping.
Genius! I had something obstructing at the same place. Thanks for sharing!
thank you handyman dan!! my dishwasher has been having issues for months and I've been trying to track down the exact source of the issue, turns out i had a plug in the same spot as you, hopefully this time its fixed for good!
Dan, good job with this follow-along video. Keep 'em coming! I got a couple of laughs as well!
Awesome video and just what I needed. Thank you for sharing this!!
You have no idea how much I love you right now!! Thank you sooooooo much!! ... wow. Turned out that we had this EXACT SAME problem! And it was super easy to fix. In our case the line was so tightly attached, I had to cut it off, but had plenty of slack to reattach it. Problem solved! I was surprised how stubborn the blockage was actually. It took some strong jabs with the screw driver to get it out. Dishwasher drains in mere seconds now. Such a huuuge relief. Thank you so much for posting this video!! :-)
Hi Erik, I'm really glad this worked for you. Thank you for letting me know.
:-) I think in our case the little plastic tab on the PVC pipe was never properly broken off, which probably means that since the mid 90s that little tab was sitting there with a tiny opening, and over time it completely clogged up. It's now properly opened up, drainage working again, and what's more: way faster than ever before during the 4 years we've lived here.
Awesome. Well done.
Thank you Sir, Your instructions worked...........Saved my life in Corona lock down.
I'm glad it helped you.
Thank you so much, incredibly helpful
Thank you!!! best video ever lol your calm approach made me feel I could do it and I did! yaaay
Well done! Thanks for posting this. My washer just stopped running yesterday. it would start up and display "clean" after a few minutes. I tried (1) cleaning out the drain pump inside the washer, and then I checked out (2) a couple of videos that recommended resetting it mid cycle. These didn't work. After disconnecting the line like you did here, I poked a little hard nugget of gunk into the pipe and voila -- the washer is working normally.
I'm glad it helped you.
Thank you for this video! I was able to fix my plumbing issue thanks to you!
I'm glad it helped you.
Thank you. Problem solved...so grateful ❤
Wow, now the kids get a break from washing the dishes! 😂 Thank you, great help indeed!!😊
I'm glad my video helped you.
Thanks! This worked perfectly and was easy to do myself!
Great instructions! Exactly what I needed
Very good video sir. I would say though that removing the pipe U-bend is also a good idea as you can clear this at the same time. You can then use a screwdriver to push any blockage out and rather than push the blockage into the u-bend, you remove it completely.
Didnt think I could have something stuck in the Y connection. Actually had a giant pumpkin seed stuck in there. Thanks for the tip!
You're very welcome.
Nice video. Entertaining and useful. I'd only suggest disassembling the P trap too, just to make sure the clog doesn't move further down the system.
Thank you for your suggestion.
This worked! Better than any texbook. I am gratefl!
Thank you for the fantastic video. It was so easy to follow along and follow your clear instructions. I actually felt like I could give it another go after resorting to handwashing dishes for an embarrassingly long time. Other videos were confusing or started with pulling the pump apart, etc, which is not something I wanted to try. Looks like I probably didn't need to anyway. Found a little grease when I poked the screwdriver in. Fingers crossed that was it. Running the dishwasher now! You've gained a new subscriber. Will definitely look to your videos for other fixes I need to do!
Boom! Dishwasher fixed. Thank you 😊
Fantastic video my friend!! Hopefully it saves me getting a plumber.
Yes, yes,yes it worked...,..thanks so much...keep safe & strong...
I'm glad it worked for you.
Very nicely explained .I think mine is the same problem I will try it today .
Good luck. I hope you can fix it.
Bro I would have to have some fun and groovy music for a job like this too. It'll help reduce my aggravation. keep it on replay my dude.
thank you! you saved me $200!!
Thank you for sharing! It’s so helpful and I had my problem solved!
You’re going to love me after you read my comment/advise. I always put dishwasher powder/liquid not just inside the sealed lockable compartment, but most importantly also outside of it. Logically answer yourself this question, when is the detergent required the most, when the dishes are the dirtiest at the beginning of cycle or halfway through when they are already partially rinsed by just pure water? The answer is Off course when very dirty at the beginning. So I always split my dishwasher powder between sealed compartment and outside, effectively it gives your dishes a prewash. Most dishwasher actually have designated space for this reason, sometimes uncovered, sometimes under the the main flap slotted section. Frankly my “half “ of powder outside is alway bigger then locked “half”. It also has another benefit apart from cleaning your dishes better, it keeps your dishwasher’s drainage pipes clean, that’s because all this greasy stuff from initial wash is dissolved by the powder you’ve put outside of locked compartment and does not stick to the drainage. For this reason I have never ever used any of those heavily advertised “dishwasher cleaners”. You will notice it yourself when cleaning the filter (still have do it regularly, it’s compulsory), it won’t have this whitish gluey coat that is hard to remove. After 20 years of service I have replaced my old dishwasher with new one and guess what? The drainage pipe was so clean that I have not changed, just reconnected it to new machine.
Another tip, when you’re installing your dishwasher, connect it to hot water supply pipe instead of cold.
Don’t bother with all in one tablets or pods, always use dedicated powder/liquid and separate rinse aid. By the way rinse aid really makes the difference ton achieve spotless dry dishes.
P.S. obviously I am a dishwasher freak.
Thank you!! I fixed it!
This was wonderful, it worked!Thank you😀
Thanks so much for this. You saved me another call to the real estate 🤣
Thanks for the video! Solved my problem
You’re the best. Thank you!! 🙏
Mamma Mia! What I love about CZcams is that the piano player from Abba can entertain us by making a video on how to unclog your dishwasher drain.
Thank you for making this video!
Youre welcome.
Thank you! This video was a life saver!!
You're very welcome.
Sehr gut. Alles es ordnung, Vielen danke.
Thank you, same place got clogged up.
Thanks Dude! worked a treat
This worked for me! Thank you! 😃
so simple - best to start at that end rather than take the pump apart to check the impeller isn't jammed!
Thank you ! This fixed my problem
Your awesome, thank you!!!
Thank you. Nice video. I will try
Cheers Dan, your a legend.
Gracias! Problema resuelto.
solved my problem. thanks
Thank you, I have the same problem now.. 😅
Very helpful, thanks
You're hilarious ... 3:50 ... Yeah, a good big HomeDepot bucket is what you need ... But, I've got the same problem of not-draining. And, I did same as you above -- first time I worked on it.
Well done. Thank you.
Great video. Quick question, doesn't your drain pipe the white one need to be level? Having it lay on the floor and hook upwards doesn't that not siphon correctly where it could cause the clogging to occur?
Thank you sir
Hi dan you need to try the stuff called iron out I tried that and my dishwasher drains now and works like brand new it's called ironout
great vid
Dan, fella-me-lad, you are one cool cat
Thank you it worked 😺
Thanks man!
Much easier than my experience. A longer hose in my case. And full of very stinky water! I nearly lost my lunch. (Gag)
Hey Dan, I'm having cleaning problems with my dishwasher. I happened to see your video and you look just like me! Right now I have long hair (because I can't get it cut), but otherwise, it's uncanny! I have a grey bears and usually keep my hair short. Just thought you might be amused! Thanks for the DIY videos!
That's so cool. Thanks for telling me. By now I have shaved off the beard, but I loved having it.
@@dan-the-handyman2929 I really did a doubletake! I usually have a winter beard for no shave November and shave it when it starts getting hot. With the RONA, I'm working from home and having a beard means not shaving every day. If I shave a couple times a week, I look homeless!
I also have hair down to my shoulders. Late last year, my boss's boss decided we couldn't ware jeans to work any more. "Business Casual". So I decided to let my hair grow, since it would annoy her and there wasn't anything she could say! Then the RONA hit and I can't get my hair cut! My wife has offered, but I'd have to make a You Tube video! My wife would have way too much fun!
Anyway... Thought you'd be amused! Glad you are! Take care!
Thank you.
* Thanks 🙏 very much!
Hi Dan, I cleaned my filter and also did what you to the pipe and my dishwasher still will not drain. Do you think i could put baking soda and vinegar in the pipe to clean it out?
Hi Beth, sorry, I didn't see your question earlier. Did you solve the problem?
thanks!!!!
Enjoyed, learned and giggled... You sound like my favorite cartoon figure... POPEYE 😀
Thank you! Problem solved.
Great!
Is it possible to find out if the pump is the problem or a clogged pipe? My machine doesnt tell me and while im preparing to clean the pipe with pipecleaner i do not know if the problem is the pipe or a defective pump
Good question. You could buy another drain hose -they are not very expensive. Or unmount the hose and run water through it to see if it is blocked. But the.first thing to check the the ABS Y-connector. Mine was blocked.
What about the high loop ?
