This was helpful and I learned about the drains under my sink in general, given I never check things like this. They need to teach things like this in high school, with hands-on tests, instead of some of the pointless topics they cover

Dan you the man! I tried everything else, and thought my pump was gone but never thought to check the darn drain connection! This totally did the trick. I watched 5 other videos about trouble shooting a dishwasher that wont drain and not one mentioned this!!

Many thanks for this - it fixed the E24 error on my Bosch DW. The cause? Sourdough starter. I made the mistake of washing out our sourdough starter Kilner jars in the DW - the starter is so sticky and difficult to clean. And the DW did such a wonderful job! Until it stopped working, that is The starter had set like cement. Well doh! I am now older and wiser. I certainly know much more about the innards of a dishwasher.

Thank you! My dishwasher wasn’t draining. I followed a lot of videos and disconnected my dishwasher hose twice to check for a clog. Yours was the first video to show that the connection to the disposal might be the problem. My problem was in the air gap, but you pointed me in the right direction. Much appreciated!!!

Very pleasant video sir. One thing I'd like to add is it's a good habit/practice to clean the pea trap while you are already set up to do so. Yours actually has a drain plug built into the pea trap. It should be removed, inspected and cleaned every year or two. It takes a few mins and since you have a bucket, rags and opportunity, it just makes good sense to give it a quick look as well. Not only for normal build up but sometimes that blockage will sit in the pea trap, restrict flow and though it may seem to drain normally, over time it will/can worsen. If anyone isn't comfortable with removing the pea trap another method is, after you push your blockage into the pea trap, you install the drain plug and fill the sink about half way. Go to your restroom and grab your plunger, remove the drain plug and give it a good plunge. It'll help push anything that regular flow couldn't dislodge. I should add, IF any water you forced through the drain comes back up then STOP right away. It shouldn't but I have seen it more then once.. If you've already reinstalled the dishwater drainage hose then remove it so not to force any debris back into that line. Now, plug the tee that the dishwasher drainage hose was installed so water you are pushing through doesn't come blasting through that open tee at 50 miles an hr. You can plunge away. You may wanna add some vinegar, baking soda or store bought chemical to the sink water. If the results are the same you can leave it over night and see if the chemicals have loosened the blockage. If not then you will have to either snake the line or revert back to square one and remove the pea trap. Hope this helps anyone. Kind regards V

I could be wrong, but a recent tip from a plumber... attach that drain hose going up under the sink and bending down to drain in the disposal. He said it would help to trap gunk in that bend of the drain hose, instead of flowing back down into the dishwasher and causing a funky smell.

In our case the line was so tightly attached, I had to cut it off, but had plenty of slack to reattach it. Problem solved! I was surprised how stubborn the blockage was actually. It took some strong jabs with the screw driver to get it out. Dishwasher drains in mere seconds now. Such a huuuge relief. Thank you so much for posting this video!! :-)

:-) I think in our case the little plastic tab on the PVC pipe was never properly broken off, which probably means that since the mid 90s that little tab was sitting there with a tiny opening, and over time it completely clogged up. It's now properly opened up, drainage working again, and what's more: way faster than ever before during the 4 years we've lived here.

Well done! Thanks for posting this. My washer just stopped running yesterday. it would start up and display "clean" after a few minutes. I tried (1) cleaning out the drain pump inside the washer, and then I checked out (2) a couple of videos that recommended resetting it mid cycle. These didn't work. After disconnecting the line like you did here, I poked a little hard nugget of gunk into the pipe and voila -- the washer is working normally.

Very good video sir. I would say though that removing the pipe U-bend is also a good idea as you can clear this at the same time. You can then use a screwdriver to push any blockage out and rather than push the blockage into the u-bend, you remove it completely.

I actually felt like I could give it another go after resorting to handwashing dishes for an embarrassingly long time. You’re going to love me after you read my comment/advise. I always put dishwasher powder/liquid not just inside the sealed lockable compartment, but most importantly also outside of it. Logically answer yourself this question, when is the detergent required the most, when the dishes are the dirtiest at the beginning of cycle or halfway through when they are already partially rinsed by just pure water? The answer is Off course when very dirty at the beginning. So I always split my dishwasher powder between sealed compartment and outside, effectively it gives your dishes a prewash. Most dishwasher actually have designated space for this reason, sometimes uncovered, sometimes under the the main flap slotted section. Frankly my “half “ of powder outside is alway bigger then locked “half”. It also has another benefit apart from cleaning your dishes better, it keeps your dishwasher’s drainage pipes clean, that’s because all this greasy stuff from initial wash is dissolved by the powder you’ve put outside of locked compartment and does not stick to the drainage. For this reason I have never ever used any of those heavily advertised “dishwasher cleaners”. You will notice it yourself when cleaning the filter (still have do it regularly, it’s compulsory), it won’t have this whitish gluey coat that is hard to remove. After 20 years of service I have replaced my old dishwasher with new one and guess what? The drainage pipe was so clean that I have not changed, just reconnected it to new machine.
Another tip, when you’re installing your dishwasher, connect it to hot water supply pipe instead of cold.
Don’t bother with all in one tablets or pods, always use dedicated powder/liquid and separate rinse aid. By the way rinse aid really makes the difference ton achieve spotless dry dishes.
    P.S. obviously I am a dishwasher freak.

@@dan-the-handyman2929 I really did a doubletake! I usually have a winter beard for no shave November and shave it when it starts getting hot. With the RONA, I'm working from home and having a beard means not shaving every day. If I shave a couple times a week, I look homeless!
I also have hair down to my shoulders. Late last year, my boss's boss decided we couldn't ware jeans to work any more. "Business Casual". So I decided to let my hair grow, since it would annoy her and there wasn't anything she could say! Then the RONA hit and I can't get my hair cut! My wife has offered, but I'd have to make a You Tube video! My wife would have way too much fun!

Good question. You could buy another drain hose -they are not very expensive. Or unmount the hose and run water through it to see if it is blocked. But the.first thing to check the the ABS Y-connector. Mine was blocked.
