    I know nothing about pottery. I just find watching this so calming though. I think you do an amazing job.

    Perfect Technique from start to finish. I don't typically Cone Up and Cone Down as much as you, but very well done. You had nearly center completely until the very end and you trimmed it right off. Great work.

    Hey matt, i would love if you could explain to me how you create the crystalline finish to the glaze. I make work similar to yours, long neck, white vase, etc. I learned lots of techniques from you! is there anyway you could share that with me?

    Where did you get the turning tool from ?
    Looks familiar.
    Cheers, Dan.

      Hi Dan, you mean the triangular one at the end? I think it might have been CTM or maybe Bath Potters Supplies. Most of them sell these :)

      It's just that we make our own and they look the same.
      Last for ever.
      We have thousands of blanks in store from a job lot of off cuts from a stainless steel factory, just wondering what they charge for them.
      Might have to change my job and start selling tools instead.
      Cheers, Dan.

      Ahh I see! Great find! I think it was only a few quid. Not much, I wouldn't change your job just yet ;)
      I actually prefer loop tools for trimming. But they wear out quicker!

    where do you buy your porcelain from/what supplier do you use?

    Hi!
    Recently, I made a really thin pot and made the mistake of leaving the tiniest bit of water at the bottom. I've noticed that you use a lot of water when narrowing - have you ever had any of your vases crack at the bottom?

    • @Matthornepottery
      @Matthornepottery  Před 5 lety

      I try to only add water to the outside of the vases when narrowing so issues with cracking

    Hi! What type of clay is this? Porcelain? Is it possible to achieve these kind of shapes with stoneware clay? Thanks!

    • @Matthornepottery
      @Matthornepottery  Před 6 lety

      Yes this is porcelain, but it is possible to use stoneware. I prefer porcelain as it gives a better result with my glazes :)

    With an opening so small what would this vase be used for? Also how in the world do you glaze or seal the inside?

    • @Matthornepottery
      @Matthornepottery  Před 7 lety

      It is just intended to be decorative, to be used as an ornament. I don't glaze the inside of these thin necked vases as there is no need. If the top of the vase was open I would glaze the inside :)

      Oooooh neat! That makes a lot of sense, thanks for answering my questions! : )

    What's the purpose of blowtorching?

    • @Dragonbackwards
      @Dragonbackwards Před 7 lety

      To ensure it holds its form. Blow torching drys out the surfce, and is used quite often for larger items. His lines especially on the top, where it's thin - could easily fall.
