Must Watch!! Silverback Gorilla Showing Off & Following My Wife at the Omaha Zoo

  • This video is actually combined but were all shot in sequence with only moments in between. From the moment we arrived at the zoo these two bachelor Silverbacks had been vying for our (my wife's) attention. Following her from window to window for hours, slapping, bumping, and playfully kicking at the windows. Sometimes even the occasional chest beat and charge. This was just a short bit of the hours we watched and played.

For someone so obsessed by gorillas you really know nothing about their body language. No the gorilla is not trying to get your attention when he beats his chest or smacks the window that is a warning because he is feeling threatened, so stop bothering the gorilla you strange woman.

That type of behavior must not be allowed BY ADULTS OR CHILDREN,. Security should be able to escort visitor out if they don't comply. I WOULD RATHER ALL ZOOS & THE LIKE BE CLOSED. ONE DAY ALL WILD ANIMALS WILL BE FREE AGAIN. You guys are right! She is following that poor Gorilla, and she is actually freaking him out stalking around him like that. He's angry. I have no clue why the husband keeps directing her to do this and that. Or why he thinks the Silverback is interested in his wife. Silverback is visually ticked, and has no where to get away from her. The few times he did look in the window was in hopes that she had left.
I imagine if one of the keepers were to catch all her action she and her troubled husband would be asked to leave before the valued Primate hurt himself. This is getting me upset, I can't watch this Animal abuse anymore, I further can't understand why no one at all didn't speak up for the Silverback.
I also believe at the beginning of the video when the Gorilla saw he couldn't get away from her, and he gave her the leg up action? I feel he had something in mind like, "Piss off you psycho" Also later when he runs by and punches the window hard? I really think he's envisioning himself punching her in the head, and thinking she would be smart enough to understand that his punch meant, LEAVE ME THE HECK ALONE!!! And then? reality sets in for the Silverback...
""Ohh come on she can't be that dense!! Ok she is. One more really hard loud punch, that should scare her off, it always works on Herman""
""Oh Dear God, Nooooo, yet she stands with arms bent, eyes in dead stare☠️ at me!!! My time is running out, her nostrils are flaring. ""
""YOU there little human in the corner, quick please dial 911 I'm in fear for my life!! I think the crazy in my face female is about to break out of her glass cage, oh help, Mama""

Humans always think they know what a animal is thinking. That silverback gorilla is reacting to this woman's looking him straight in the eye. That is a challenge to a gorilla, especially a silverback. You need to look down instead of looking at them in the face. You can do sideways glances to see if they are interested, that will not make them mad. But when a silverback charges you and slaps something before charging away from you, it means you are pissing them off and you need to cut whatever it was that you were doing out. A gorilla has hit and broken the glass in their enclosure before. No one was hurt but it bears repeating, be respectful when looking at a gorilla. .

Agree 100% most ppl are idiots in a zoo. It’s like someone who puts a young child on top of an enclosure fence because they think it’s cute and then the kid falls into the exhibit bcs of their behavior and then they file a law suit. Nope - you are too busy looking at the trees and missing the forest. He positions himself between her and the other gorilla, displays masculine gestures to capture her attention, and even acts SUBMISSIVELY toward her...approaching her in a round-about way with relaxed body language. He is not remotely threatened by her. If you notice, the other gorilla actually takes a swat at him - they are so clearly competing for her attention that it's undeniable - probably mostly a game they play since they're not in the wild.

Sargon is correct. They mate by smell. He sees her as an intruder. Especially if she’s looking at him in the eyes. Staring at a gorilla is an act of aggression. Did you ever watch the video of the woman who was just like this foolish woman. The gorilla escaped and ignored all the others and almost killed her. She thought she “connected” with the gorilla too.

Her blonde hair is tied up in a pony tail on top of her head. To the gorilla this looks just like the crest on a male gorilla's head. So, the gorilla likely thinks she is another male gorilla who is following him around and challenging him by staring at him and standing upright. And he is reacting to that challenge.

Gorilla Attack on visitor of Dutch zoo
Bokito made headlines on May 18, 2007 (on the day of the zoo's 150th anniversary) when he escaped from his enclosure. He dragged a visitor, who was seriously injured. The woman had several fractures, a shattered hand, and over a hundred bites all over her body. The woman thought she had a special relationship with the monkey, so she visited him four days a week and made frequent eye contact with him. This staring probably led to the attack. From the hospital, according to a message in the Telegraaf, the woman reported: "He is and will remain my favorite. I have made contact with him since he was in Blijdorp. When I put my hand on the glass, he did the same. When I went to him laughed, he smiled back ". A babysitter from Blijdorp had warned the woman a few days before the attack and asked them to keep their distance and not to look the monkey directly in the eye, according to a report in the Algemeen Dagblad. The woman nevertheless held the zoo liable for the damage suffered.

I understand humans have limited comprehension skills when it comes to animals, ironically apes in particular (or primates of any kind), but it's pretty clear this gorilla isn't just "showing off". If there wasn't the glass there to protect you, that gorilla would've put you in your place in a hurry. He's an alpha for a reason. That wasn't playful behavior; that was a "Go away, you're bothering me" behavior. I don't suggest you two ever go to see gorillas in the wild. You probably wouldn't survive the encounter. They don't like eye contact and following them suggests to them you're interested in conflict. Seeing as they have the strength of at least 6 humans, it's best not to agitate them.

Actually Gorillas are not that violent, it's the chimps that are extremely violent. Look at people coming in contact with Gorillas in the wild and they never get attacked, they might pull you by your cloths or bluff charge but they won't hurt you unless you're hurting them. That's why Gorillas are called gentle giants. Now chimps are completely the opposite they will tear you apart in a second, they're extremely violent. I don't think i even ever heard of someone being killed or badly hurt by a Gorilla.

    • @AviationNut
      @AviationNut Před 7 lety +9

      Lela Dailey
The Gorilla wasn't trying to hurt the kid, he was just panicked because of all the people screaming and yelling. If Harambe wanted to hurt that kid he could of done it any time but he didn't, he did drag him thru the water to get away from the people screaming but it's same way as Gorillas treat their young in the wild if you look at nature videos. In 1986 there was a kid that fell into a Gorilla enclosure and the Gorilla picked him up very gently and took him to the enclosure door where the rescue could get to him. Then again in 1996 a kid fell in and again a Gorilla stood by him protecting him from others and stroking his back gently while waiting for rescue. Gorillas are very intelligent, if they know you're not a threat they will not hurt you. Just look at Koko the Gorilla, she is unbelievably smart, look how gently she treats little kittens the she cares for. They're amazing gentle and very intelligent giants, even Gorilla experts will tell you that gorillas will do anything to avoid a violent encounters.

The European woman who thought another silverback was "fond" of her had blond hair; staring at them reads as "challenge", and so when the opportunity presented itself, he escaped his enclosure and attacked her... he went looking specifically for her.
