    Great call on Megatron. He's not really complicated or anything, but he just looked great, and he was so fun to switch between modes. Absolutely a great figure.

    Something i'm just now realizing, and I cant believe it took me this long. Most of the energon autobots that can powerlink, actually go through the same basic transformation that Armada Prime did when he would go into his super mode.
    Head folds up, split the legs/crotch section to turn into shoulders and arms, fold the normal arms around the back somehow and flip out the head.
    And when forming the legs, they basically do what Armada Jetfire does. Head/arms hide away, flip out the connection area and make things look more leg like.
    Its like they saw the Jet Convoy super mode and basically designed a toyline around it.

    TBH, I asked for the armada one on patreon, I prolly should've asked for this first because I love energon.

  • @ShadowWingTronix
    @ShadowWingTronix Před rokem +2

    This is my favorite non-nostalgia line so I have many thoughts.
    Prowl is my favorite for the line. He offers his shield in leg mode but the instructions and show (that never really used any of the UT gimmicks properly in my opinion, especially the Mini-Cons who were all but ignored here despite still being compatible) don't seem to realize it. His pursuit police mode is really cool. I also picked up the K-Mart "SWAT" repaint of Rodimus as a new character and Prowl with a new color scheme just for Prowl alone. I renamed that one Speedtrap and it's one of my favorite self-created Transformer names. Yes, even about the one that became part of my screenname.
    Omega Supreme and Omega Sentinel (the blue recolor and the one I ended up getting) was marked down to $2 when the line ended. The Walmart near me really wanted to get rid of it or really screwed up. I just didn't feel the need for both and I could always get a G1 inspired Supreme at some point, making Sentinel unique. He's also a Headmaster and I can see the head also having a Cybertronian hoverpod mode.
    Sharkticon I just really like. It's not in his official profile but just from his look I see him as a bot who sees the Decepticons as the good guys and himself as a superhero. :) Totally agree on Ironhide and the Dinobots, but disagree on Wing Saber (though for some reason I really like Overload who has some of the same issues). He looks boring and I can just have Op combine with Sentinel. I do like that Op goes back to the "Scramble City" style combiner and does it better than the actual Scramble style combiners as each limb position offers something different besides being a limb.
    I actually got the Quickstrike version instead of Bulkhead as I liked Quickstrike's colors better and by this point my collection was getting too big for my space.

    I know it’s an old video, but I just picked up a Snowcat today and I really like him. He’s got that mid2000s chonkiness to him and yeah, his vehicle mode doesn’t peg together at all, he’s just been a joy to handle.
    Also, he should be in Holy Grail for one reason. HE HAS A FUNCTIONING WINDSHIELD WIPER. I CANNOT THINK OF ANOTHER TOY OTHER THAN HIS REDECO THAT HAS THIS.

  • @dylancrossman8502

    I actually enjoy the Hot Shot mold and am pretty mellow on Prowl. I did like Bulkhead, Shockblast, and Omega Supreme way more than you did though, and actually found Grimlock charming.
    But I really like that a lot of this list shook out to a sort of “this is fine. Not great, not awful, just fine.”
    Energon was a god awful cartoon, but the toys were fun. And they tried something different, even if it didn’t work out. It’s telling that they essentially went back to the Minicon type gimmick with the Cyberkey play pattern.

    I recently reacquired an Energon Screamer (had as a child, traded off to get Movie Wreckage who I still have and love) and it’s a VERY nice toy. Only things that bug me are how the arms transform (feels like I’m forcing them past each other to get into/out of vehicle mode) and his face sculpt not having the cool eye damage he had in the show. I’m not a stickler for cartoon accuracy, but damn did that look cool.
    I must say, though, I think the Energon Barricade mold is my favorite from the toyline. I couldn’t tell you for the life of me WHY, but he and his Uni 2.0/ROTF/Generations repaint are just very neat-o figures. He also feels surprisingly very similar to the G1 Onslaught mold, so as a then-modern reimagining of that old toy, I absolutely love it.
    I’m also very fond of the often-forgotten and sold off Uni 2.0/ROTF/Generations Blastoff release of the Kickback mold. It feels like with the Fans Hobby upgrade figure sets, that toy was just thrown to the wayside by collectors, so I have a bit of an affinity for it and even have a small collection of them that I’ve been growing as I find them whilst going through toy conventions.

      Brevity, since I was already rushing through the video with nearly 50 entries to talk about. • @RialVestro
    @RialVestro Před rokem

    Um... I have that Kicker and High Wire and you got 2 things wrong there. First off, Kicker is so fragile that he literally broke in half as I was taking him out of the package. He's only held together by a rubber band which snapped as I was taking him out of the plastic clam shell. His torso and legs came out separately. I never even got to play with kicker because of how easily it broke.
    Secondly, High Wire doesn't work with the Powerlinx gimmick, he's actually the only figure in the entire toy line... well the only deluxe "Autobot" figure, that doesn't fit the standard combiner play pattern of the rest of the toy line. It is a pretty decent figure on it's own and it actually has better articulation than a lot of the other Deluxes because there's no gimmick but he also kind of loses some of his play value at the same time. I almost wish they had made Deluxe versions of the other 2 Mini-cons but they obviously had no intention of even doing that since he doesn't even have Perceptor's face molded in anywhere.
    Yes I know High Wire is a Mini-con not an Autobot but the deluxe version was sold as an Autobot and had Autobot insignias on it even though he was never like that in the show. The scaling was off for the toy to really be called a Mini-con still.
    Honestly I'd put High Wire some where in Retail release because he is a pretty solid figure on his own but Kicker is Flea Market... like BOTTOM of the Flea Market... I actually feel like you need a category WORSE than Flea Market because I've never had any other figure break on me as easily as that one did. I literally have a cheap Chinese Knock Off that's totally hollow inside made of paper thin plastic that has held together better than Kicker did.
    BTW I actually don't mind that you called him Wheeljack because he really SHOULD have been Wheeljack anyway. Plus the toy line called him Downshift and the cartoon called him Cliffjumper so if Hasbro can't even agree on what he's suppose to be called why not call him Wheeljack. I can much more easily accept the guy who was actually designed as a Wheeljack homage who was intended to be Wheeljack but didn't get the name because they already called a dead character Wheeljack in Armada than randomly calling a character who looks nothing like him and was officially called Que in the actual movie and toy line. I know they were going to call him Wheeljack in an old draft of the script for that movie but they were also going to call Blackout, Frenzy, and Brawl by different names and no one ever uses their rejected names so I don't understand why people insist of referring to Dino and Que as Mirage and Wheeljack when those aren't their actual names in the movie.
    I also don't really agree with on Bulkhead, Perceptor, or Alpha Q being in Bargain Bin but for vastly different reasons.
    Perceptor I actually do think is a better figure than the Armada version. The Mini-cons are better figures on their own, especially High Wire who has a much better robot mode since the dirt bink gives them more bulk to work with than his original bike mode. I've never been entirely sure what Grindor even is, and the robot mode is oddly proportioned so the original Grindor I think is better but over all High Wire and Sureshock are better figures than their Armada counterparts and the combiner mode is better than the original Armada version. I actually have both of them and the combined mode even holds together better and is slightly a bit bigger than the Armada set.
    Alpha Q I have to say it's not a fair judgement to knock him for not Transforming since it's a character who isn't even suppose to transform in the first place. I can understand criticizing actual Transformers for not transforming, that's why I never got into Transformers R.E.D. but Quintesons aren't Transformers they were never suppose to transform. I actually think it's weird that the Earthrise Quintesson can transform since it doesn't even look like anything and it was never suppose to. I do kind of want that figure, I was never able to find one but it would be staying in Quintesson mode anyway since that's all I ever need it to do. Honestly if they're going to have things like Action Masters and R.E.D. I think they should stick the characters who aren't suppose to transform into those toy lines. You are right about him missing one of his faces though so I will knock it slightly for being inaccurate to the show but I think it should low retail not Bargain Bin.
    Bulkhead also, while I actually agree with you on his accessory thing which I never use anyway. I don't like how it looks that piece has been in a junk box ever since I got the figure. The base figure itself however is actually one of the best toys of the time because his gimmick was built into a separate piece unlike the other figures in the toy line. I would have thought you would have ranked him higher since the figure wasn't hindered by his gimmick like basically every other figure of the same size class in the same toy line. I mean sure you could argue that a better helicopter figure came out in Cybertron but I thought we we judging these just based on other figures in the same toy line. Bulkhead is actually a really good figure for the time it came out, His articulation is better than most of the other figures at the time, I believe he even had ankle tilts long before that was made a standard thing on other Transformers. Yes his gimmick is dumb but it's also the reason why the base figure was so good since it's a gimmick that wasn't built into the main figure but was rather a separate piece that just plugs onto his back. Landmine I believe was the same size class but that one is far more hindered by the same gimmick than Bulkhead is. Though it does blend into his vehicle and combined mode better than Bulkhead's does the base figure suffers more because of it.

    These toys generally lack usable articulation, there’s so many toys that are just FUN.
    I think the stealth jet limb mold is better than the other limbs, but I can see why you’d rank it how you did. I was not a fan of the bomber limb. This is taking the individual toy into consideration, not the combined mode.
