I got the ar pack ur talking about, rarely used it. I was too cheap to buy the ammo, and by the time I had money I could afford better non dlc guns. Def don't need the dlcs, but the maps are super cool
I have over 600 hours in the game, I can assure you DLC is not necessary to be good at the game in any way. Progression is slow but in the grand scheme of things, most players will hit max level well before they get bored of hunting rare fur variations of animals.

you can level up really fast if you do the story missions ive made it from level 1 to 20 in about 9hrs
