- Just about all Germans have three of four old mobile telephones lying about in a drawer somewhere. That's more than 72 million cell phones country-wide. But simply throwing them away is what's really wasteful.
The electronic elements of cell phones contain valuable materials such as copper, silver, gold and rare earth metals which can earn their owners good money! Germans can sell their old mobiles on the Internet portal "Wir kaufens". The company that runs it, asgoodas, from Frankfurt-Oder receives more than 6000 cell phones a month. In the US and Britain, such opportunities have existed for a long time. Now the business is gaining momentum in Germany.

People throw away a lot of stuff that they can actually sell and still has value, but they just don't know it.
I have my mother's Samsung which still works from around 1999, no parts have been replaced for it and charger still works. You can call people with it and it works just fine. Pretty amazing to be honest.
After it fell down some stairs and drowning in the water my nokia 5230 still glichly works fine
I bet they have a backroom for nokia 3310 because they cannont destroy them. :D
😭😂😂😂
recycling is so cool!!!
This is great to see! The vast amounts of electronic waste is piling up. I work with these metals everyday and the value just keeps rising. Thanks Deutsche Welle

Gotta call ezio
I'm glad to hear these old phones can have a new life (either as someone else's phone or as raw material then whatever from there)
I started watching DW-TV at a tender age because of their catchy presentations especially in tech stuff. I'm not bored yet. Good stuff
those sheets of copper are addictive to watch
sorry to hear that
This is a very good business recycling of the old electronic products. Very Good. And this is a perfect invention.
i can see my mobilephone up there
love the whole thing of recycling these instead of filling up landfills
I want these old phones
Me too.
Lots of good stuff
Brilliant Germans.
Eh, not really, there's a recycling centre like this in my city, it happens all over the world.
Yeah.... they made out of solid gold )
how can it be ok to insult someone for a bad joke ? -why not just thumb it down ?
I have taken so many phones from recycling bins including a Moto z and galaxy s6 edge. And they were going to e waste (they both perfectly work)
People even throw away working phones just like my grandma and grandpa did...
Seeing all of those mobos getting crushed in a pile... brought a sad, sad tear to my eye :c
The US still does not do this very much, recycling equals Big Money, too! (Jan. 11, 2018)
Brilliant!
some people don't know some phones are rare and worth a lot of money
What's the difference between the one extracted from ores and this
Amazing!

Awesome video I never knew what I just watched
It’s good to see old phones getting to shine again after being inactive for so long. The memory wipe is a bit sad though, like the memory wipes Star Wars droids get to prevent them from gaining independence.
Fabio Capellos new job
Great, think we should have similar high tech plants in USA.
i ve seen this many time on sparkasse bank ,people throw their defect cell phones on boxes
Central America needs companies like this!!! Just in El Salvador 20 years a go!!! Most of the urban areas residents had. Cellphones, imagine a least 1 million of cellphone, dispose every year , most companies would give. The cellphones for Free.

These days a man cant go no where, or get anything done without having to stop at a public restroom to jack off to porn on my Iphone, and troll youtube.. its awfull!
Does anyone know if these processes are being employed in the U.S? Can we recycle metals from their phones like this?
@Franco Smith Your forgetting about how much it would cost to mine the raw materials out of the ground. It's alot cheaper to recycle.
if u are interested in melting copper and stuff u should check out Rönnskär. its likewise to this tho mutch bigger and interesting :)
From what I hear, i doubt they'll be able to shred it if they tried. (I've never used one of these "Nokia") Mobile phones these days...my dad once dropped one and it never worked again. just DROPPED IT on the ground.
I am really interested of how muchncan my nokia 220 cost it is about 4 years old. The small screen ones.

wow, with all the amperage wasted on the electrolysis process alone which translates into a hefty electricity bill, how would these people still be able to turn a profit on their final 99.9% purity copper metal product?
Oi! Where's my phone gone?

Screw the gold,i want that Nokia 3310,i have one on my left.
Believe it or not i've had some dreams that looked like the cells in this video.
Third dream i was walking on the street and i heard about some trash bags full of phones, but there was nothing left when i got there.
Second dream i was on a place with some guys and we found some cellphone pits.
First dream i was near a road and i found some thrown cellphones on the side on a little hill.
I don't know what's up with me,lol.
solutions for.copper is convert them into radiator for cars
Also never put your phone number on youtube its one of the privacy rules
how i contact recycling mobile in German ?
holy scrap!
I wannnntttttt these old phones for my collection and they are getting destroyed
How much gold could i get from 3 phones?
those mobile phones could be used in other ways, they could be sold or given on a long leg, I would personally just mine the mobile phone for gold, which are already very broken almost all those mobile phones in the electrical scrap or maybe just do not work batteries but batteries can also be actually fix it if you know how to do it I would personally sell it to collectors and not destroy it like that
@1:47 uhmmmm only counted 4.... or my eyes just playing tricks

Nice job abstergo
The MOTHER EARTH NEWS FAIR when it came to Washington state this year and last allowed guests to bring an old cell phone to recycle and gain admission for ten dollars rather than twenty-five. I love hearing stories like in the video here to show material being used again and again. From, -'tarotworldtour'
Or even Chuck Norris!
Do new phones also have gold?
can i get one?
All the nokia 3310 go in a separate line to be shipped to Mordor.
Joe they need good defences. use those as bricks
ladayna el katir
wow
A ton for only 300 grams?
well thats 12.500 dollars
Emphasis on *ton*.
prepareuranus and you know how much they get those things into production line and how much it costs to do, they wouldn't be doing this if there was no good profit margin, but there is so they do it to get the materials into reuse on some other products.
But it's still very little profit.
Individuals wouldn't dream of getting that amount either lol.
dont forget that pound of silver
yah the iphone
