CLIP DESCRIPTION:
Bourne (Matt Damon) escapes the U.S. consulate using a map of the building and a radio.
FILM DESCRIPTION:
The best-selling suspense novel by late author Robert Ludlum comes to the screen for a second time, following a 1988 made-for-TV movie. Matt Damon stars as Jason Bourne, a barely alive amnesiac with a pair of bullet wounds in his back, pulled from the Mediterranean by Italian fishermen. Bourne's only clue to his own identity is a bank account number etched on a capsule implanted in his body. He quickly finds the Zurich bank where money, a gun, and a few identification documents await, but after he's pursued by security goons at the American consulate, Bourne realizes he can trust no one and offers a German gypsy named Marie (Franka Potente) ten thousand dollars for a ride to Paris. Encountering more professional killers bent on his destruction, Bourne discovers that he possesses a surprising degree of skill in combat, martial arts, and linguistics -- handy talents that clearly indicate his past includes work as a spy and assassin, but for whom? With Marie's reluctant help, Bourne edges closer to the truth, something CIA officials want concealed at all costs. The Bourne Identity co-stars Chris Cooper, Clive Owen, Brian Cox, and Julia Stiles.

Everyone gives Bourne all the credit, but without me where would he keep all his stuff?
Can I marry you?
😂
Where are you now ?
The sole purpose of your existence is for bourne
You have no life it's sad
I love how calm Bourne is throughout the whole thing. He's fully aware that the soldiers have to follow a set procedure and that they need to secure every single room, floor by floor, thus giving him plenty of time to make his escape.
Undead Nightorc plus he's trained to always remain calm in any situation
The MIND Ofah profesional Assassin.
@Severine 战斗机 indeed it does
Movie is one thing, real life situation is another.
Interestingly, if he was running/sprinting around everywhere he's infinitely more likely to get reported by civvies that see him go by. This way, he stands out significantly less. He still looks a bit odd compared to the average person there, but there's a difference between 'looking odd' and 'looking guilty'
That moment when Jason puts on the guard's earpiece and takes the map from the wall, you know how resourceful he is.
Yes, he is a former Delta Force operator. These guys are trained to use every available resources. Even in this movie, Bourne fought with one of the guys, using a pen. Yup, he subdued that dude with a pen. Everything can be resourceful, it's just whether u know how to utilize them or not.
Yeah, and he take a second to look and thinking that 'it might useful' after he throw the gun earlier it great scenes
I like that he nut punched him.
Imagine not knowing at all how you did all of that. Your brain is in auto pilote and you're just along for the ride.
Sort of like driving
Yea goes to show the brain is an amazing thing.
I absolutely loved that they really made it seem like Bourne was just the ultimate soldier. Everything he did was almost like he had hours to think about and anticipate before doing it.
Super soldier
A.S.A.
Advanced Situational Awareness.
WHOA! know right! its almost like he was scripted to do that in a movie or something!!!
@@visceraeyes525 You must be fun at parties eh?
The Bourne series are the best action movies I've ever seen. Period.
Hector The Wonder Halibut They were awesome. Notice how the Bond series reinvented itself after the first Bourne movie came out to be more badass
Hector The Wonder Halibut well then you haven't seen the Wire.
@msr803 How dare you disrespect Jason Bourne like that. John Wick doesn't compare to these incredible movies.
@msr803 I disagree. The realism of the fights, the car chases, and the directing is way better imo. John Wick is just a mindless action flick typically good to most people but didn't impress me
@@smuffinman I love the Bourne trilogy but John Wick is actually realistic in its fight scenes and shooting it shows what a professional assassin can do it's not mindless at all compared to a lot of films the John Wick films are just as good as the Bourne films
I love that the calmest we see Bourne is in stressful situations like this, it lets his instincts take over, he knows what to do.
Correct! Like the back of his hand. No wonder we were always told to keep calm.
Training and brainwashing not to mention the genetic enhancements
Jason stops thinking about what he's doing, stops doubting and questioning, and just does it. When he lets his training take over he's unstoppable.
14 years old and still fresh as a daisy.
Nah, it's definitely got some cheesy early 2000's stuff in it.
+Hydraulic Particle
Like what?!
مروى عثمان الصوفي The romance, some of the action, some of the music. That sort of thing.
Said the vicar
It's this kind of sentiment that got Jimmy Savile in hot water.
@ 1:37 You can hear someone speaking on the radio saying "Target may have a radio." I never noticed that before.
+Spar10Leonidas Now that you mentioned it. Me too.
Explains why he got rid of it. He doesn't have it after that scene. Kinda funny.
In the italian version this is not even dubbed, so I totally missed it! Wtf
I mean, 15 freaking years and I didn't know they said it. Scene is more realistic now.
Noticed it years ago but they said target may have a radio go to code 77, over.
Alpha/bravo acknowledged it.
Almost 20 years later and this movie is still a gem. You gotta love the Bourne series. Damon knocked it out of the park with these!
The first one was the best 😁
The Bourne series are the very reason why the James Bond franchise had to reinvent itself. "The Bourne identity" clearly ridiculed "Die another day". Both films were released the same year in 2002. Daniel Craig gave a whole new dimension to James Bond with more action (as in the Bourne series)and much less gadgets. Hence the massive success of of James Bond since "Casino Royale".
Die Another Day was the highest grossing Bond film upon release and earned twice as much as this did though
I love how he just walks his way through the embassy, no panic no rush
I love how Bourne just instinctively seems calm as hell even when he has dozens of armed US guards fast approaching
This movie holds up really well; still as suspenseful as the first time I saw it!!! Matt Damon IS Jason Bourne
Agreed. It honestly baffles me this came out fourteen years ago. You'd never notice without looking at the date.
Actually, this is a common misperception. Matt Damon is simply the ACTOR that portrays Jason Bourne, who is a fictional character :)
This movie could have come out yesterday. It was ahead of it's time. It was the perfect gap between 80's and 90's action movies and 2000's.
There are movies released today that already don't hold up well
Kyle Gaunt Reviews p
Wow. Early 2000s, Hollywood knew how to still make good movies.
0:26 I feel bad for those Marines, it's probably their first sign of action and it's Jason Bourne lol
They were real Marines too, most of them anyway.
Same here. Webb, a former Delta Force operator forced to beat up and go against his former service brothers, which are the marines.
@@StephenKershaw1 US marines aren't commandos, I didn't assert that they are. I just said Webb being a veteran himself has to fight against his former service brothers. Royal Marines are the ones that are commandos, but they belong to Britain. America has no designated commando units. But the American unit comparable to the RMCs are the MEUs.
@@StephenKershaw1 yes Bourne was in the Army, and those are marines. But they are still military brothers, doesn't matter which branch. They all are part of the United States Armed Forces.
@@StephenKershaw1 I was working on set as a props and arms handler for that scene (as I did for almost every scene of that film), which was shot in Prague in January or February of 2001. The Exec Producer got real marines for that day. Hope your eyes don't get stuck, but thanks for explaining it to me.
Rehangs the extinguisher back on the wall bracket, this kind of attention to detail makes all the difference.
But, it would be too perfect if they've shown how he takes the dropped lock from the door with him :)
Defo should of picked up the lock
@@Freeman3007 In fairness, on screen we don't see him NOT pick up the lock or otherwise conceal it, so one could be free to assume he did, offscreen.
Classic Bourne taking the radio off the guy on the stairs to listen to exactly where they are. He's always 3 steps ahead.
All those skills but didnt think to put the red bag strap diagonally over his shoulder and chest before starting to climb the outside of the building.
possibly knew he couldn't climb as well with it.
+Plen122 He could have twisted it round to his back then have only had the strap infront no probs climbing.
+Tonywization then we wouldn't have the drama of someone possibly taking it :)
+Plen122 Good point.Having criticised this aspect of the film its still on of my favourites and I try and watch it each time its shown on TV.
He had a whole Platoon after.him, there's.no.time for that BS
I love how he's so calm
0:15 NEVER GRAB THE SHOULDER.
This was years ago, but the guy on the stairs is probably still in pain.
And we thank him for that shot, we love that shot
As a man, I feel that. 🥶
That was a cheap punch by Jason. He went after his nuts. That officer is on disability payments for life and unable to have children. That was nasty by Jason Bourne
I cant imagine anyone else playing the part of jason Bourne. Absolutely brilliant.
Imagine Clooney. The original book by Robert Ludlum was much more Clooney-ish. When I saw Matt Damon had the part, i thought no way in hell. It turns out I love the movies. His girlfriend in the book was an economist with a worldwide reputation.
He makes James Bond look like a posh amateur doing it for a laugh.
These movies had some DAMN good fight choreography! And they don't ruin it with the Shaky Cam, sure they use a lot of quick cuts and rapid editing but at least the cameras aren't shaking like the cameraman suddenly started having a seizure. Its rare that you get modern fight scenes with smooth, non Jerky camera shots. This did it really well, so did Kill Bill
+tankmaster1018 shaky cam does take skill tho.. and yeah i agree with ya mate! works perfectly here!
+tankmaster1018 Personally I'd prefer to watch it all from one angle one shot from above as in 0:18 panning from shoulder height to plan view no cuts no edit.
+tankmaster1018 great point! I thought I was the only one who hated shaky cam. I don't understand why its done as it sucks for the audience. I can recall so many scenes that I wish that did not shake. Some Ultimatum scenes were too shaky for me...so was Hunger games 1...I can recall the last scene Leather Weapon 1 ugh!, never watch Blair Witch b/c of the CAM. the only film where I thought it worked well was Saving Private Ryan.
dlast jedi Exactly. Saving Private Ryan is the film that really started that trend and countless people have copied it. But here is the thing, Spielberg actually did it for a reason unlike everyone else who uses it. Spielberg had his cinematographer shoot the film almost completely handheld, with the protective lens coating stripped out of the cameras, and at a much higher frame rate because he was trying to mimic the look of old WWII television reels and have it seem like it was a reporter following the action around almost if you will. Haha
+tankmaster1018 Spielberg used the same technique before Private Ryan in Schindler's List. He wanted to have that documentary feel as if the action was really being shot by a detached cinematographer. When you watch the SS clearing the ghetto and some of the ugly executions, it all has this casual make it up as you go feeling.
"YOU! RED BAG! THE RED BAG! STOP RIGHT THERE!" 😂
01:23 You! Tight blue sweater! Stop right there! =D
Jack Jones I paused the video for that girl too
Too funny bro 😂😂😂😂
Oddly Rhyme
Officer: red bag stop right there hands up.
Bourne: puts hands up.
Officers: try to arrest Bourne
Bourne: can you hold my beer, beats the sh*t out of them
I like that he puts the fire extinguisher back when he's finished with it. He's such a polite little supersoldier assassin.
Also one less thing to show which way he went.
Twenty years later it's still a cool movie!
That woman that rushes past him on the staircase... 1:22
Fire.
When I first saw this at the cinema, I was like - holy shit, I've never seen fighting like this in an action film. Bourne reinvented the entire action/espionage genre.
Guy on staircase: "Hey honey may have to call you back, looks like another dri-" 00:45
The punch to the balls followed by being flipped down some stairs has gotta be one the nastiest moves Ive ever scene lol
John Powell did god's work for this series with his music.
Thank you sir.
I love this fight scene. Quick, clean, exactly what I would expect from a trained assassin. None of that schoolyard style drawn out fighting you see a lot in other movies.
My only problem is - and this applies to like 90% of movie fight scenes - why do the guys with guns always rush into the fray and try to fight up close when it's clear their buddies are already getting their ass handed to them doing the same thing? You'd think they'd step back and prepare to fire if necessary. It's no big deal, it's just always confused me.
In this case, there will be rules of engagement. You don't get to just run in and cap somebody unless there are obviously and immediately lives in danger.
No authority to shoot a firearm until a deadly threat is present.A gun would be considered a deadly weapon, a knife would be considered a deadly weapon but not bare hands.
The thought process was probably to get the gun to Bourne's face to make him stop and subdue him. Obviously that didn't work.
@@AndreiB2 [This is not the US] You're actually wrong on that account he's in a embassy meaning these events are taking place on US soil
He grabbed the Marine, hit the guy in the suit to drop him quick, and kept the Marine between himself and the agent with the cuffs so he couldn't shoot at him. It was done on purpose, pushing the Marine closer until he could grab the gun. Short of purposefully backing up and allowing the Marine to be taken hostage, options were limited. In an open shootout, it's dumb, but here it makes sense.
The music during this is epic
I don't know why but this is my favorite scene in all of the movies.
cinematography in this trilogy was perfect
This still beats the 2hr shitty 007 SPECTRE film i watched last night!
hahaha
+Chiko Tembo This movie is 2 hours too. With less action scenes, more forgettable character drama, and a low-key and physically impossible ending.
+gckbowers411 Hardly forgettable. I'm assuming when you say "physically impossible" you're referring to the human shield drop, which I imagine is actually survivable.
H Larkins No it's not. You're still falling down a stairwell, maybe 50 feet. Human bodies aren't pillows, and even with a pillow the sudden stop would still kill you. As for the character drama, it's a forced love story that has zero buildup.
+Chiko Tembo I'm English and even I agree with that. Bond is bollox. It's fantasy whereas Bourne is closer than people realise to reality.
I think that these films of Jason Bourne are the bests movie of all !
Great great film. This first one is the best in the series.
Was suprised by just how many Marines the embassy had for a safe country like Switzerland.
***** I think it is nuts how many nutty people attack/act weird around the President and White House. You ever notice how many people randomly attack it ? or threaten the President? THAT is truly crazy.
When John Hinckley, Jr shot Reagan ... the GUY actually thought if he shot The President of the US that movie star Jodie Foster would be attracted to him ??
Actually thought that? Not some drunken fantasy? WHY THE PHUCK would
Jodie Foster go visit him in prison?
It must be weird being a politician and always having security around. I bet it feels wierd cause security is there AND idiots are yelling in your face.
At least if your Usher or Jay Z you can count on security to set you up with some chicks.
Our Secret Service can't even close-the-deal with real hookers in a country with legal prostitution. Phssst. Amateurs.
Damar158 And the Marines got their butts kicked!
Yeah, but the film was mainly filmed BEFORE 9/11... besides there being no embassies in Zurich... only in Bern (capital) and Geneva (UN locations)
degree7 erm actually probably because of the Iranian embassy siege
9/11 was planned 22 years ago from happening by your own government.Keep licking ass.Your country is a puppet itself.
@0:47 Bourne punches the guards nuts!
The guy falling down the stairs is the star of this video.
Kinda feel bad for the guy lmao. That had to have hurt. And then get thrown down the stairs too
Worker: “hey babe, I’m sorry I’ll be late for dinner, just got off a long shift, boss keeps busting ba…” 00:45
The most solid ball punch in cinematic history…..
1:11 I guess they ran out of budget for sights.
+Liist I never noticed the soldiers don't even have iron sights, that's pretty funny! i guess if they if they needed to shoot someone they would have to do it from the hip lol!
+Liist my guess is they are used for close quarters, making the sights redundant.. just a guess
You still want to have sights even for close quarters.
+Liist Well yeah, but it seemed like it was removed for intentional reasons.
I love how people don’t know shit about guns are talking here, trying to reach you something.Motherfuckers are acting like they’ve been professional 360 no scope killer in real life.
I’ve been binging the first 3 movies this last week
For me, it's always the way he grabs the gun through the dudes also the grabbing of the map.
Now that's an awesome scene right there. He beats these Marines, find the location to escape, and climb all the way down the ground.
"he beats these marines".. um, phrasing?
Iron Lungs what ?
MrCharlou92 watch the show Archer, then come back and read Felipe's comment, after that you'll understand my comment.
He is a former Delta Force operator. He is trained to do all that and very good at them too.
I love this scene and what makes it even more awesome is the score.
1:11 - Some Marines were in such a hurry, they didn't even put sights on their carbines.
My goodness, I look away for two seconds and Bourne already has a gun
This scene makes me feel some kind of Syphon Filter rush
*Hangs fire extinguisher in proper place. Respect OSHA!
YOU! RED BAG THE RED BAG STOP RIGHT THERE!!
The one thing that's most important is to just keep calm and not to lose your head
Love this movie... great replay value. When I coach my sales team, I sometimes bring up this movie and tell them to think outside the box, and stay a step ahead of the competition by improv on the fly. Notice how the Bond franchise got a remake after this movie came out
TC Roland thats a good motivation watching a show called Billions which is a good motivation and imagine my boss is as tough as Axle who may fire me at any time. Works for me anyway. BTW great movie love how Bourne is so calm and focused when most normal people would panic and not think on how to cope.
My manager calls engaging with customers “hand to hand combat”
I love how they speed up Bourne's badass moments to make it look even more deadly
One of the very few films I'd be willing to watch again.
( 0:15 ) The guy's white hat comes off 3 times.
Guys if you don't like the shaky camera movements, I completely understand. Doug Liman is your guy, but know this. Paul Greengrass (from what I'm able to gather and notice) is the type of director who shoots in mockumentary style (mocking a documentary). Best way I'm able to describe it is it's as if a camera guy witnessed a turn of events, went to go grab his camera and started filming everything he can possibly film and then edited it together the best he could to translate the idea to viewers. Paul shows things as they unfold which makes it feel like a real event happening OR as if you're watching a Documentary.
For example, when I first saw the Bourne vs Castel fight, I thought it was a pretty damn cool fight and pretty deadly. The choreography was seen clearly and it looked like Doug rehearsed the shots pretty well. When I saw the Bourne vs Desh fight, I was on the edge of my seat because it looked cool, pretty deadly and INTENSE! Reason I say intense, was because it was literally like someone picked up a camera and went to the same room and started filming while trying avoid getting knocked down by the two fighting men. That's how fights really are when your standing near them.
I love all the Bourne films (except the Legacy one lol). Just know that each director is trying to provoke a feeling out of you with their style of filmmaking. If you like to watch things that look rehearsed, stationary and tracking shots is your element of filming an action scene. If you like mockumentary, just pick up a camera and shoot what you can then edit it together with good sound FX. This is the overall difference between IDENTITY and SUPREMACY/ULTIMATUM.
+Ariel Jones you are one of the few people on the planet who understands the shaky cam concept, awesome. ;)
I think the Supremacy's appartment fight scene was horribly filmed, but the rest of supremacy and ultimatum are awesomely filmed, you feel right in the middle of the action and Greengrass rules.
+Rodrigo Gil Thank you! I agree!
You are 100% correct
Only Greengrass can do shaky cam correctly. Whoever directed the Taken trilogy is an idiot.
Jason Bourne is cool under pressure. So shaky cam when Bourne is fighting (under pressure) just makes for bad story telling.
The movie that brought the phrase" shelter in place" to a new level and to anyone who is curious., in an office building that is exactly what security recommend if you cannot evacuate or fight your way out
I never tire of Bourne, Jason Bourne. He’s the updated Bond.
Big fan of that little touch when he hangs the fire extinguisher back on the hook.
hahahahahahahaha..... 0:47... how the man falls from the stairs! LMFAO!!!
He's so lucky they said "We're moving to the second floor" right as he reached the staircase.

i love you Matt Damon❤
Me too, he did incredible in these movies! Was so disappointed when they replaced him in the 4th one.
Yes,,,I know me also.
At exactly 00:16, at that very moment, action choreography changed forever in Hollywood apart from the uniform guards realizing that they had just f**ked up pretty bad.
Of course, those marines are no match for this former Delta Force operator.
i like how he just casually walks
You know that the main character is a good guy when he puts back the fire hydrant after using it to smash a lock
I'm a very proud Brit and 95% of the time I will always favour/prefer whatever is the British alternative/variant of something, whether it be films, food, sport you name it. But in this very rare case, I must admit that the American film series Jason Bourne is one I find better than the British counterpart James Bond. Although I love the James Bond movies, there's just that bit more realisticness in the Jason Bourne series alongside other factors, that makes this film series outstanding.
Is this movie known in England?
This is just like the video game, The Bourne Conspiracy.
Toshiro Hitsugaya Well what if there is a video game version of The Bourne Identity for Original Xbox, PS2, and GameCube?
