Many moons ago some tennis fans in YTube suggested Djokovic skip the Tokyo Olympics to focus on the US open since he had already won 3 Slams in a row. Winning the US open would mean the 1st ever calender GrandSlam in the modern era for men. Concerned tennis fans noticed Djokovic looked a bit drained and the interval between Tokyo Olympics and US open was too short for full recovery. Djokovic took the gamble and lost in the US open finals.
Fast forward to end of June 2024, Dokovic is in a bigger predicament, trying to compete after knee surgery. I have to agree with well meaning tennis fans that focusing solely on the Paris Olympics is a far more prudent option, it is afterall the best of 3 sets, and the next Olympics will be 4 years later.

He should play Wimbledon. And the USOpen. Because honestly, who gives sh*t about an Olympic medal in one´s tennis career? The number of Slams are the real McCoy in tennis and Wimbledon is obviously and by far the most important Slam. Olympic Games is a tournament that is very important though for a huge range of other sports that almost never get a lot of attention, like swimming, running, gymnastics, volleyball, waterpolo, handball, basketball, pigeon shooting, pentathlon, plunging and ... in 2024 there´s even break dancing! Believe it or not! Nobody cares if Sampras, Borg, Agassi, Becker, Lendl, won an Olympic medal or not. Actually only Nadal fans care, which I can understand because Nadal has won a gold medal but really, nobody else. So I don´t understand why Djokovic wants a gold medal so much when he has 24 Slams.... it doesn´t make a lot of sense to me.

He knows he shouldn't play. That's why it's not confirmed yet. He however really wants this bad because this is probably his last chance at equalling Federer's record 8 Titles here as he will be 38 next year and who knows how long he has remaining especially now with the likes of Alcaraz and Sinner in play (no more weak era of 2014-2022ish).

If he struggles to beat low ranked players when healthy, he has 0 chance of playing more than a round after surgery and no practice. Give a young player a chance, he is wasting a spot for someone more competitive.
