    Question: how will the wood react to the moisture in the thin set? Risk of warping? Risk of mold/mildew from moisture?

      The thin set should only contact the cement board.

    can I use the cement board as exterior walls of a shed without plywood for sheer strength and Will water seep through over time even with a coat of latex paint?

      Certain brands can be used on the exterior. Durock is one.

    Can you use the cement bored to replace wood fences?

    I did thin set direct on wood and it warped pretty bad. I even used a sander sealer on it too. I should have painted it or did extra coats. The moisture was too much for the wood.

    We're thinking about concrete boarding our entire house on the inside, we purchased 3 whole skids worth at an auction, 3/4 inch. And we can't afford wood or sheet rock. And we purchased a falling down modular home, the frame is good but that's about all. So we're thinking about doing concrete board throughout the entire house instead of sheetrock then just painting the concrete board. However I have a question for you...
    Question:
    Can you please explain the purpose of reason for the concrete between the plywood, and the concrete board. Like what's the reason for it being there? I've seen it put down without concrete, just lay the board on, then do the concrete/thin set on the seems. We don't plan on tiling. We want to do it on our walls throughout the entire house, only tiling the kitchen and bathroom, maybe wallpaper, or painting the concrete board walls. Thoughts? Pros cons? Of doing this? I'm not a contractor obviously, just a stay at home mom full of ideas for our run down falling down house that we purchased for 10 grand with an acre of land, so that in itself tells you how bad the house is, it's actually depreciating the value of the property 😂.

      That could be a type of stucco used to help the concrete board stick to the plywood. You can paint over the cement board but you may want to use stucco paint because regular paint may not adhere to the cement board as readily as the stucco paint.

      @@Caliber8Tools cool Thank you for the tip, we don't have a clue what we're doing, but it can't be that hard really, just beams, with concrete board over them. we currently have ugly dark wood paneling, thinking about just laying the concrete board over the wood paneling in our kitchen. And of course putting concrete over seams and that tape stuff. Then painting. And putting in a back splash.
      Do you think this would work? For an entire kitchen dinning room and bathroom remodel? Would it look like a normal wall when it was finished or like a concrete wall? Have you ever tried this b4? Besides a bathroom.

    Why is mortar needed? why not screw the cement board directly to the wood?

    • @Caliber8Tools
      @Caliber8Tools  Před 8 měsíci +2

      It provides additional strength, fills any gaps and reduces movement or flexing. Screws can’t do that.
