    Why didn't the Rebellion use the Munificent? Sure, I understand that they have weak armor and are cheap, and the lack of a hanger bay would have been a problem. But the advantages more than made up for its disadvantages:
    1) The Rebellion wasn't rich and Munificents were more common to scavenge than other Separatist warships.
    2) The Rebellion had limited personnel, so its skeletal crew requirements would have been appreciated.
    3) It was fast, perfect for hit-and-run tactics.
    4) Its exceptional communications would have been VITAL for the Rebellion to spread their own proganda, as well as allowing them to spy on Imperial broadcasts and communicate with the different rebel cells.
    Overall, the Munificent would have been GREAT for the Rebellion...it's a shame they didn't use it much.

    • @platyhelminthes2877
      @platyhelminthes2877 Před 9 měsíci

      @@NEWJAMHUNTER I think they're half right. Half of the problems with the ARC-170 could be solved through doctrinal changes, and the other half could be solved by further specializing the ship to a more suitable role. For long range reconnaissance, the ARC-170 is well suited, but it's not maneuverable enough to be fully effective as a mainline starfighter, particularly when up against the supermaneuverable Vulture droids and Tri-fighters fielded by the CIS.
      Similar problems were faced in WWII when it came to the use of twin-engine, multi-crew heavy fighters like the BF-110 (roughly analogous to the ARC-170), which lacked the maneuverability to go toe to toe with lighter single engine fighters of the day. This problem was partially solved by re-tasking such heavy fighters to more suitable roles, such as reconnaissance, ground strike, maritime patrol, and night fighting.
      I believe a similar change of doctrine would have been beneficial to the ARC-170, as it is already specialized in long range patrol and reconnaissance, and also seems to be capable of carrying enough ordinance to be an effective strike fighter or light bomber. I see it being used in two combat roles in particular - unescorted on long range patrols, using speed, sensors, and the element of surprise to strike vulnerable targets before enemy light fighters can be deployed in response, or escorted by friendly light fighters on closer range ground strike missions.
      I think some changes could also be made to its design to help it either specialize in a recon/strike role or make up for its weaknesses in close combat. for one thing, the wingtip mounted cannons are not ideal. They would be far more useful for dogfighting if they were mounted closer to the roots of the wings, or ideally on the fuselage or nose of the fighter itself. This would significantly reduce the convergence required, and hence increase effectiveness in dogfighting. Alternately, additional cannons could be mounted along the length of the wings to increase weight of shot and make up for the heavy convergence required by the weapon placement. The wingtips could instead be used for hardpoints to allow the option to carry additional ground strike or anti-ship ordinance such as missiles or torpedoes. I would also add a second defensive gun to the rear turret, as the single light gun may not have enough firepower to deter pursuit by enemy fighters.
      Of course, you could also just turn it into an X-wing, but that's the easy answer. 😁
