    You mentioned you don’t like how the grill doesn’t show the temp from the probe while the food is resting. Just an FYI in case you didn’t know, if you hold “manual” down for 2 seconds while the food is resting, it will display the temp!

    Just got one. The dawn power scrub has really been a game changer in clean-up! Another thing I do for the "bottom pan" ( like when I'm doing wings) is cut a piece of parchment to put under the fry basket or grill grate. Helps with clean-up.

    Perhaps you're not aware that Phillips the inventor of the air fryer developed the "Starfish" design to create greater velocity of air moving across the food without losing temperature. Ninja designed the Starfish technology (patterns and depth of grid valleys) into their grill grates for optimum velocity and heat. The Foodi Grill grate is ceramic coated for higher heat retention and ease of clean up. The sizzle grill defeats the starfish technology and grid depth which is why you didn't get the same cook on the second breast. Sorry you don't like the appearance of grill mark design in the starfish technology but the aluminum sizzle grill eliminates what makes the Foodi Grill great. Not sure why you're placing food on the center mark of the Foodi Grill grate. Keep it centered over the starfish pattern. You'll get greater Maillard carmelization and improved taste. Also the constant banging of the sizzle grill will chip the cook pot, grate or base liner every time you take it in and out. NOT A GOOD IDEA - Keep the sizzle grill on your outdoor grill and out of your indoor appliances.

      This is the most correct comment. Never put your meat in the center to block the center hole of your foodi grill. Also, skipping preheat will make the food worsely cooked by the original grill, because that grill is coated with ceramic but made of cast iron inside, it needs time to heat to proper temprature, it also needs time to cool down.

      I have the ninja pressure cooker/air fryer. That's a really good idea to line the bottom pan. I've been using aluminum foil on the basket, which is great (no clean up at all), not maybe lining the pot would help with air circulation... although even with just the foil, it still crisps pretty well.

    My hunch on the difference in the two is simply airflow. If you look at the design of the original grate, it promotes a swirling airflow effect that draws from below and spins outwardly. Think of this grate as the "convection" setting in a traditional oven. That's probably why your first one temp'd a little higher with a tougher exterior. The second grate doesn't promote the same kind of airflow and acts more like the 'bake' setting on a traditional oven. Hence the slightly lower resulting temp and softer exterior. My $0.02 at least...
    If the above is true, I'd be curious about consistency across multiple pieces - especially as you get closer to the edge of the pan - given most people won't be cooking just one at a time.

    • @TheSaltedPepper
      @TheSaltedPepper  Před 3 lety +2

      It's more about heat transfer and even cooking, but I'm sure air flow also comes into play. When the juices release from the meat during cooking, they hit the grill grate and steam which keeps the chicken from getting that tough exterior. The grill grate gets hotter than the other grate because of the material it's made of. It's pretty impressive.

    I think the reason the Ninja grill grate is spiraled is because the spinning fan is pushing the air down in a circular manner as it’s running. Whether this is to give the user a visual impression of this being an air fryer grill compared to a more traditional panini grill or if there is an actual result from this, I don’t know. But the trivet on the Foodi fryer basket has a similar design. I’m surprised the result came out so strongly to one over the other. I’ve heard at least one recommendation to order the grate from Ninja as an accessory to the Air Fryer oven instead of having both appliances. But knowing the Sear And Sizzle is available isn’t something you want to forget. I believe my Foodi does excellent burgers even without a grill.

    Not sure how you can compare when you do not use the temperature prope the correct way how they explain on the manual. You changed the temperature manually instead of letting the computer control the temp. Worked great for me and the chicken breast was moist. Manual also explained on tough residue just let soak in warm soapy water and does come off a lot easier.

    • @TheSaltedPepper
      @TheSaltedPepper  Před 3 lety

      If they didn't want you to change the temperature manually, there wouldn't be a manual option. I'm sorry, but I'm not cooking my chicken to 165℉, knowing that the temp will go up 5-10 degrees during the rest time and then my chicken is overcooked and dry. As far as the temperature probe goes, that is the correct way to do it, you can also go in from the end, either way is fine. I have soaked the grate that comes with the grill in hot soapy water and it's still hard to clean in the grooves because of the way the curves are. Maybe I cook different things or cook more or have a bum grate, but it's always been hard for me to clean it. The sear 'n sizzle grill grate is very easy to clean for me and I love the way it cooks, so I thought I'd do a video on it.I'm glad you are enjoying your grill and don't find the grate hard to clean!

    I'm looking forward to seeing how you use the flat side too.
    This is my honest feelings. The Sear n Sizzle is just to close to the screen and top of the Ninja XLgrill. I have the XL Ninja grill and bought the sear n sizzle. I'm not at all happy with it. The Ninja XL grill is just not that deep. That's also my biggest complaint about the XLNgrill.
    Using the SnS to fit it well, there is so little space between the fan and the grill. I made a thick grilled sandwich on the flat side and it was touching the screen. I also made steaks that smoked to much. I'm looking forward to see what you use the flat side for.
    Anyway, it seems to work much better if you have the square or smaller Ninja Grill because it's much deeper than the XL large grill. Sorry I bought it, because I just don't see that much advantage to using it to and the price is expensive.

      @@TheSaltedPepper Thank you. I just will just make it due. ;) BTW how is your pizza coming? I'm thinking of maybe a Grannie style pizza would be best because the Ngrill does go to 500. Because I have access to better pizza ovens and always have plenty of pizza dough making it would be a fun experiment. It's my opinion a Grannie style would work best because the oil helps the crust fry and brown and it's in a pan..so it might be ok at 500F. Just a thought anyway..hope to see your next pizza and do consider doing a Grannie Style par bake first :))
