Right on man I’m about to do this to mine. It’s purely for the fun of tinkering because my pc is a beast. I just have an old one of these lying around that I put a ssd in a few years back. It was a fun project and made a huge difference in performance so now I’m going to go the full nine yards and upgrade to the max like you. Awesome video!!

High Sierra is the last one that runs 100% natively on the whole hardware after the patch… Mojave is the last 32 bit app supported. And Big Sir is the last one that supports IDE. So anything past that you lose the optical drive. It’s really up to what you want to run if you want one of the more recent latest and greatest I still find Ventura really stable. And you can always use a USB drive if you need the optical drive.

33:50 High Sierra being the last macOS version to support Nvidia web drivers. Apple seems to be targeting the users of Xserves, unibody iMacs, and cheesegrater Mac Pros with upgraded Nvidia graphics cards. But in iMacs, GTX 7xxM cards would work because they were used in the late 2013 and 2014 iMacs and dGPU models of the Retina Macbook Pros from that time period. I mean, if someone is to buy a GPU with support for macOS 10.14 or later, might as well buy an AMD GPU but if you already have a non-GTX 7xxM card that is from Nvidia and you don't want to buy a new card and want/need to run Mojave or later, you're pretty much screwed unless Apple lets Nvidia release drivers for Mojave and later. They haven't in pretty much a year, so I won't be surprised if it never happens.

I sort of did in this video lol I am actually doing a follow up and I did a follow up in the beginning of 2022… this system officially supported seven operating systems and unofficially supports seven now so there’s been 14 operating systems I think it would be a great time to follow up on it. Also if I use this thing as a daily driver, I would still probably be running something like Mojave on it… I actually did use it as a daily driver until it got too unstable with so many operating systems on it. With Max ram and an SSD. I wouldn’t hesitate to run Sonoma on it just to use it as a daily web browser and stuff like that… it would also make a great windows 10 machine. But if I wanted it to be really fast and snappy with a hard drive and stuff I would probably put some type of Linux on it.

@@HrutkayMods thanks. I never tried windows on it because ive never been a windows fan. But if I was to try it, are there any special steps I have to take or do I just put in the USB installer and run it like I would any other system? Would it use mbr in rufus to make it? Thanks man you are the best!

@95Comics yeah, Macs of this generation are very picky… they only want to install windows via CD and you can only do it with MBR… there’s a way to do it GPT maybe with open core but I’ve never tried it. if you do it factory with GPT and actually installs you’ll get so many driver conflicts it won’t work it’s really weird changing the partition type screws up the hardware drivers That wasn’t really fixed until about 2012 models… when I install windows on older models, I usually use my 32bit EFI custom images even though this is a 64 bit EFI it literally uses the same copy of windows, so it fixes all the boot issues and stuff

Yeah, that’s different… and I think it actually uses a lot of coding that Collin came up with it but I don’t know… i’m just talking about software updates in general. They just refuse to install on HFS in the operating system for some reason. 🤷🏻‍♂️
