Perfect Drums
3:00 Gojira, 7:23 Luke Holland, 9:30 Metal Machine
Every kit Mixwave has released sounds incredible. I've got the Luke Holland and Tony Royster Jr. kit and both are amazing right out of the box! I could sell all my other drum vsts now. Mixwave is the new king!
Yep I own the Troy Royster and it's CRAZY cool. I want to pick up the Luke Holland next
Own also the Gojira its amazing, i love the white snare pretty much! But right now im blown away from the new EZ Drummer 3 😁
Yeah, I own EZD3 as well, though I want that snare!!! haha
not only is your mix insane man. but those drum parts you wrote are insanely good!
"Mixwaves Mario Duplantier oui oui très bien olala" 🤣🤣 I'm french and it just kills me !!😂
Toontrack just sounds more realistic to me! That's it! But love it both
Agreed! That was my first impression as well. The Mixwave kits are more ''ready to go'' load up and start writing. Toontrack, being more raw, allows you to mix your drums the way you want and polish them afterwards.
@@alexandruv amen
They pretty much all have that “shotgunning” thing going for them. All of them besides superior drummer 3. Great samples still though
I have all of the mixwave libraries and I actually love them all. They need to make a Gavin Harrison library. Great video
Toontrack Death & Darkness. The cymbals sound week in the Gojira pack.
I like the Death and Darkness and Metal Machinery SDX's, and have a couple of presets I've made for my mixes. The Gojira kit is crazy good straight away but not as easy to tweak. Not that fussed on the Luke Holland one to be honest. I still think Superior sounds the most like real drums in a mix so it gets my vote.
To me Death and Darkness SDX still sounds the best (and who can deny Mark Lewis!) and I also use the Modern Metal EZX a lot. Oh, and both Duality EZX's are great too! But I have to admit, that Gojira kit (although a bit dry?) sounds great.
Can this be used with EZ2? This sounds amazing!
Both amazing sounding ready to go kits. The option to have the pure, raw recorded kits is brilliant, really neat feature. One of the best tracks from Equilibrium too 🤘
Thanks for the video Mendel! I have been on the fence with these drumkits. But, man they sound amazing!
sick labraries! I just switched from ggd and slate drums to ez drummer 3 with the progressive setup, and as a drummer who plays these plugins on an edrum set I have to say that ez dr3 fits the best for me. the most natural sounding plugin. I am super picky at the cymbals and toontrack just knows how to build cymbals that doesnt sound the same with each hit.
The problem with Mixwave and GGD is that they all suffer from the "Steven Slate syndrome". Especially GGD, which appear to be the main contender Mixwave is up against.
As a fusion drummer recording on a high-end e-kit for ourselves and clients via Superior Drummer 3, Addictive Drums, BFD3 and a plethora of other libraries, I can of course appreciate GGD/Mixwave, since I happen to have them on one of my SSD:s. But even the so called "raw" versions (I am looking at you, Invasion) have an inherent velocity curve of a clipped "S". Hitting my snare at a velocity of 1%/ppp still triggers a sound equivalent of a compressed mezzoforte at best. Apparently that is not the case with the libraries I have tried from Mixwave (Royster and Pridgen) when used "raw". Still, that is nothing compared to SD3 where I actually get the output of ppp when I want it.
Nowadays I/we only use the YRC kit in Death SDX for commercial releases. It works for everything except jazz/bop, in which case I would go with Decades or Hansa. Some years ago we also released stuff where I played Metal Machinery (yes, the SDX), but listening to MM today it is nothing compared to Death, or any of the SDX:s post 2017. Worth noting is also that Metal Machinery has been poorly sampled since on the Tama Starclassic Bubinga 14x16 floor tom there is a very clear blow noise at higher velocities. You can hear a similar noise from the 9x10 tom as well, but not as evident.
Truth is, most people don't really know what real drums sound like, and maybe never will. But end results is still what matters, and even though SD3 are not "real drums" (even if they are), they are still my first choice for basically everything. Including progmetal.
Hi Mendel.. you had mentioned Metal Machinery preset was going to be made available. Has this been released yet?
This
For me the only thing that lets mixwave down is the cymbal decay, the ring and sustain lacks a little realism when compared to SD3 as well as cymbal variety but combining the two would make for a hell of a drum sound
Thats true! The shells are great in the Gojira but not that fan of the cymbals!
I made almost this exact comment on fluffs review about the Gojira pack when it came out and Taylor Larsen got pretty upset and defensive about it.
perfect comment
Yeah, idk I feel the exact opposite
@@GreatBurningNullifier what did he actually write back saying he wasn't impressed?
I still love you're SD3 drums! That snare is my absolute favorite. Are you gonna put that metal machinery preset for sale at all?
Yes, I'm planning to make a SD3 preset pack releasing this year so stay tuned!
@@Mendelian can't wait!
They really sound awesome, yes. But syncing with E Drums is completely full of bugs. Right now you can't save your own mappings. (!)
Almost all drum plugins that work with Kontakt are full of bugs. They are aware of this but will they be the first ones that will make it bug free with Kontakt? I hope so, cause again: the sounds are amazing.
Awesome video! I find that Superior Drummer snare hits (centre hit articulation) don't really have enough pop to them. When I record drums the drummer is hitting closer to a rimshot than a centre hit. I love SD3 but I'm constantly searching for that cracking snare sound that other companies like Mixwave and GGD have used. Do you have a similar experience?
Compression is your friend
This video was so useful to me! Thanks!! What lights are you using behind your panels??
Your awsome fellow letfy 😝👌🤘
Lefties unite! 🤘😆
Hello good sir! …I’ve been using Cubase forever, and, am so glad I came across your channel!! Been busy he watching and liking for weeks, haha!
I have superior drummer, but, just picked up this Mixeave Gojira after this video.
By chance, what do you do for your drum programming? I still like pre made midi files. …what is your approach for handling midi.. …I’m not at a stage where individually programming is appealing.
Any advice regarding your approach to midi drums with Mixeave would be amazing.
(I bought a couple of midi packs from toon track too)
😎😎😎🙏🙏🙏
I would go with the metal machinery drums any day.
Do you know what you had your hit velocities at?
wat tijdcodes hadden zeker niet misgestaan in de video ;)
What is the snare in your metal machinery kit tuned to? What a sound that kit is man.
Thanks dude! It’s standard tuning of that signature snare, the first one.
Blended with CLA Slate snare samples.
Can you share or have an option to buy some of your SD3 presets? Will be awesome for better understanding how the big ones (your) uses this amazing software and his configurations! Hails!
I’m working on my SD3 Preset Pack
@@Mendelian coming soon by chance??
Metal Machinery still sounds best to me. What snares did you use on you MM Kit?
The first one, the signature one of the dude who played in Testament.
Question. Do you think the Gojira kit is good enough in stereo? I noticed you have your metal machinery kit routed but not the Gojira kit. Thanks
Sounds amazing.
Just the velocity layer is a bs
And the cymbals are too thin for me.
Kinda a dissapointment for the Luke Holland track.
Probably this library are made to be modern metal with all 127 velocity
These sounds fantastic, but the lack of dynamics and the lack of some kind of humanity push me away unfortunately. I guess with a bit of midi programming could make them more natural sounding. Even the raw kits sounds machine gun, mostly the snare. Frankly, I'm a bit tired of all the modern metal albums with obvious machine gun drums that sounds all the same alongside different productions/bands nowadays. Don't get me wrong, they sound awesome and your insights over here are really we-inspiring man!
That’s my complaint also. I’ve got the Holland kit and a good majority of the Getgood releases. If the Holland kit had more dynamic range it would have replaced all of the GGD stuff I use. Even with detailed midi programming, there’s still a gap in dynamic range.
yours sound more balanced mixwave need to be too upfront need to balanced volume wise
DAMN as soon as you pressed play it was like hearing drums of war calling for Zeus’ testicles.
Hello, Mendel!
Mixwave Gojira sounds great, but I still prefer your drums mix with SD3 Metal Machiney. To me it sounds amazing!!!
What are you tuning to on your solo albums? Sounds alot lower than B natural
B standard, drop A (like his track) and B standard with the low string tuned down to F sharp (like on the track Hell Redux).
Ahh so you use 8 string standard on your 6? 🤘 That's sick
@@Mendelian Hi! Excuse me if this question has already been answered somewhere BUT :) What string gauge do you use for drop A and B standard on a 25.5 inch scale guitar? As far as i understand your guitars are 25.5 scale and tuning that low requires thick strings (thciker than 60) and nut slot filing (
Elixir 7 string set on 6 so 13 to 56 I believe. For solo’s I do 12 to 52.
Should shootout against GGD’s One Kit Wonder Metal
It doesn't sound too realistic....the same Superior Drummer 3 has a much more human and lively sound
oui oui oulala mdr
Soundblind Drums Counterkit
mixwave cymbals sounds awful...toontrack is always better on cymbals tone i think
mehhh very unnatural sounding
