  • A Slug commander you say? A commander that constantly Plague Winds your opponents’ board you say? Slime counters you say? Winner winner, slug dinner you say. I guess that’s what they said, a Slug commander that makes slime tokens and kills all of the opponents’ creatures, I’m all in!

    I unlocked Toxrill for free on MTG Arena and I have been having a lot of fun playing with him in Commander/ Historic Brawl. There's a few cards I can't use that are banned for Arena, but I still have plenty of great synergy cards as well as both Sheoldred cards which make a huge difference.

    NICE Vex. This is what im talkin about! I think this is the coolest commander in crimson vow. I also like Runo

      @vex_mtg  Před 2 lety +1

      I like this commander too, Runo is on the list, I still have to acquire some cards, but the deck tech is coming.

    I really had my heart set on making a Toxrill deck because I love what he does (and slugs are cool!). But after playtesting and knowing that my group will absolutely focus me down (plus, 7 cmc for a kill-on-sight commander is rough, even with lots of protection), I eventually shifted my efforts to a Hapatra deck instead. She's a big target too, of course, but 2 cmc vs 7 is much more manageable.

      @RINNECODA Před 9 měsíci +1

      yeah that's a reason i won't play toxrill as a commander. he goes great in my atraxa deck though as a one-sided continuous board wipe

      Unfortunately, I don't play standard. Also with Alchemy, I don't think anyone else does either.

      No problem, I tend to not upgrade deck too much, I think the only upgrade are the channel lands from Kamigawa.

    as a haha, i mightve made Toxrill a secret commander in a Tatsuneri Toad Rider, Grolnok also makes an appearance lmao

    • @vex_mtg
      @vex_mtg  Před 2 lety +1

      I believe Toxrill in the 99 is complete fair game, even as a secret commander.

    PSA: Bounce lands are not ramp. They don't accelerate your mana production. They fix your mana at best
    You need multiple land drops, landfall triggers, untap effects, or other external effects to use them as ramp.

    • @vex_mtg
      @vex_mtg  Před 2 lety

      Indeed, I guess what I mean is that it's a 2 mana for 1 card. It's more card efficiency I guess.

  • @thomaseddy7347
    @thomaseddy7347 Před 2 lety +1

    Hmmm i think this deck is too focused on Toxrill. Him being a 7 drop must-kill commander makes me think most of the deck should be geared towards functioning on its own as a control deck, leaving Toxrill as the late game finisher. I often find if I center my whole deck around my commander, my deck nosedives pretty easily if players are using heavy removal. The deck should work just as well without Toxrill.

    • @vex_mtg
      @vex_mtg  Před 2 lety

      Usually I build decks that can function without its commander, but in this case, Toxrill is so powerful, I added extra way to protect it while it's doing its thing. But I do agree, I build most commander decks with that philosophy.

    Please less talking in-between cards. I literally was able to see a card, skip 10 seconds, then wait alittle more then can finally see the next card, rinse and repeat.. Jesus man.

    • @arkaea8121
      @arkaea8121 Před 2 lety +2

      I enjoy the talking about the cards. It helps to understand what the card brings to the deck, the synergy with other cards, and the best uses for the card. He does have the decklist included in the video description, if you don't like the talking just look at the decklist. You can also increase the playback speed of the video to 1.5x or 2x to go through it faster.

    • @vex_mtg
      @vex_mtg  Před 2 lety

      As @Arkaea said, you can always reference the decklist if you want to see the cards.
