- Nintendo LABO Piano Pop-Up book: Final build - Detailed demonstration and close-up of all functions of this fully functional and interactive paper LABO piano.
I'm happy (and proud) to finally present the end result of my fully functional Nintendo LABO pop-up piano! In this video, you'll see a close-up demonstration of all functions and explanations of the techniques that are used to make this possible.
Based on the original Nintendo LABO Piano, this is a 100% paper pop-up piano that folds into a thin book.
This (fan art) LABO pop-up piano is packed with all kinds of neat functions:
• Fully functional keyboard
• Pop-up Switch stand
• Waveform scanner
• Waveform selector
• Effect key scanner
• Effect keys holder
• A two-way tremolo switch
• Paper spring push buttons
• Reset bar (keyboard lifter)
• Piano lid drop
How does it work:
The Joy-Con emits a beam of invisible infrared light that is reflected back by markers, enabling the camera to read their movement.
This project was a lot of fun and challenging at the same time. I never thought I would be able to build in all the functions. Even though, it seems like a bit too much, bulky and maybe "over-engineered", the main goal of this project was to achieve a working keyboard and from there on, I got sucked into challenge after challenge and lots of problem-solving.
If you would like to know more about this project, please take a look at my previous posts!

Hey Paul, I was a tester on Nintendo LABO, and as we worked on the game we imagined all sorts of cool things people would do with this software (and "hardware"!) when it was released, but we NEVER imagined something like this! Congratulations and well done! Thank you for showing what you can do with a bit of creativity and some careful work!
Hi Eric! Thanks so much for your nice comment! Happy to hear that you’ve enjoyed the end result of quite a journey. I would love the LABO team to see my project but I have no idea how. It’s really hard to reach out to the right people. Maybe you can help me?
@@PaperPaul I don't work at Nintendo any more, sadly, and the development team are in Japan so I'm afraid I don't have a means of contacting them! You'll just have to hope they keep an eye out for You Tube videos like this one.
Ok of course, I totally understand. 🙂 Thanks you for your reply!
WHAT ALL OF US ARE WONDERING, WILL PaperPaul CREATE LABO VR TOYCONS?
The amount of creativity in display is not only awe inducing but inspirational.
You've made unique creation!
one of the most inventive and beautifully put-together things I've seen made for interacting with technology. Well Done!
Brilliant work Paul! So good to see the process behind this and it being completed finally. Such a great Innovation on Pop-ups!
You're an absolute genius.
Really awesome, such impressive craftsmanship!
Amazing!!!
Great piece maestro..!
Honky tonk greetings from Spain.
Still fascinated by your innovations, much love to Denise.
Thanks Jacco! Be safe my dude!
So beautiful! congratz
Wow super cool
This is rather ethereal background music..
Wow. ! Amazing
This is great! Top work. 😊
Thanks! 😊 If you would like to feature my project on your channel, this video is set to Creative Commons so you can use clips from my video if you like.
You are a genius
PLEASE MAKE A TUTORIAL THIS IS INSANE
Bravo Paul....
Quality mate.
Do you have a video of how you fold the switch stand?
That is the most compact and portable I have seen. Would love to make that myself.
Would be a fun idea to make a template for this. Keeping it in mind!
@@PaperPaul I'd be happy to pay for a building kit for this. It would be so awesome to have this on the shelf and show off from time to time...
i enjoy.
Incroyable c'est hyper beau et classe et l'idée est excellente 😍👌
wow
This is awesome, along with the options for the piano I didn't know before.. might buy the Labo Set now, do you plan on doing kits with your PopUp Book? Or even selling these?
No plans to sell these. It was more an experiment and personal challenge. I’m sure you’ll enjoy the LABO set, have fun!
Pretty amazing work. How did you come up with the design?
Basti It’s was pretty much backward engineering and I used the proportions of the original LABO piano. Lots of stuff to figure out.
@@PaperPaul Big props to you! I understand, seems like endless hours went into this project haha
Jemig!
