  • An air leak on a motorized bike is not just annoy, but it can quickly blow your motor.
This bottom end has been dealing with an air leak for a while, and I finally found it.
To find the air leak I spray starting fluid around every sealing surface while keeping a water hose near by.
While spraying I listening for any dip in RPMs, and I will repeat the test at least 3 times to be sure.
    Areas to check:
Throttle piston cap, hose clamps, reed block, intake adapters, base gaskets, case gaskets, and crank seals.
    Crank seals: www.amazon.com/KQTshangmao-se...
We upload motorized bike videos every week (sometimes more)!
    FAQs:
Oil: 32:1, semi synthetic, random brands.
    Gas: 87oct
    Spark Plug: NGK B8HS (yd-100), NGK B6HS (pk80)
Parts: I buy mostly from Amazon.
Favorite Motor: Zeda (Firestorm) Triple 40
    Favorite Carburetor: NT Speed
Favorite Bike For A Motor: I don't have one yet.

It is my opinion, if you are using the reed valve kit, Your crank pressure rises. The seals will be the first item tested to the max. Good video.

Thanks Mr. Hover, that informative seal leak vid. really drove home the importance of all 2-strokes need for a leak-free crankcase. I've seen several YT small engine repair gurus using a vacuum gauge & hand pump to verify leak free status before reassembling the chainsaw, weed whacker, etc.. Now, I see the symptoms while you describe them in real time, & your leak check spray diagnostic tool! Auto mechanics "spray" 4 stroke manifolds, carb flanges, vacuum lines, etc. to find vacuum leaks wherever intake vacuum might be, listening for that rpm change. Great teaching!👍

@@LAHover Just did the job and I'm dumbfounded at how low she idles now. These little motors are quite the learning process. I had been running her with this air leak since break in (pretty sure I had a horrible break in because of it) and have slowly been learning more and more about these little motors. It was only suppose to be a small little project since I got into motorcycles this year but it ended up becoming a hobby with me registering my bike build and using it to commute with my new motorcycle license, haha.

I live at 4600 foot elevation. Mine was running to rich so I moved the clip up to the second notch from the top. It was then running perfect except at full throttle. So I ordered jets. I got the wrong jets, so I put the carb back together and back on the bike. Then it was running to rich again. Apparently I had an air leak at the carb mount that I fixed when I put it back on. I moved the clip to the top notch and it's only running rich at full throttle. Now it idles much better. The correct jets are on the way.

All tuning should be done on a 'normal operating temp engine' Cold means nothing you don't spend most time riding on a cold motor. These carbs have no auto choke and/or no choke at all so it should not idle well if at all when the engine is cold.

I thought my idle didn't sound right. I was looking for examples of a correct idle on these motors and I think I finally found it here. My bike idles fairly high and soft and it takes ages for the rpms to drop. The revs drop somewhat faster if I unscrew the idle screw, but then the engine dies if I let go of the throttle of course. I got it to idle better at some point, but I feel like it's gotten worse again.
Funny thing is I ran the bike for about 400-500 km already and it seems to run alright. I had the feeling it was running a bit rich though and I found a fairly good spot with the stock jet with the needle at the leanest setting. People tend to say the stock jet is fairly rich so maybe that compensates for whatever problem I have. I was also running very oil rich for maybe the first 200 km and I didn't exactly go soft on it during break in, so now the piston top is really black and it seems there's been blowby happening too cause there's smears under the rings, lol. Well, replacement isn't too expensive. I just hope the eventualy failure won't be catastrophic.

Start by swapping out a new carb. For the price keep a spare ready. If that works, you've wacked off half your variables. More. Then see what kind of tuning you have available. To keep from recurring get the ethanol out of your gas (easy) - and switch to a full synthetic oil and lighten up on the lube - max of 40:1 per the label. The ethanol is more trouble than it's worth - and cheap carbs corrode into aluminized jelly within hours - completely a non-starter no pun intended.
If the new carb doesn't work - you're up.

I wish I could figure out as to whether or not my bike can even idle because the second I come to a complete stop the engine is or has been completely turned off way before then maybe my clutch isn’t tight enough or perhaps I’m nowhere near done the buildbecause everyone talks about the two-stroke being able to just idle and sit there to heat up which I would love but mine does not really do that. It’s either move at full speed which is a 20 to 25 miles an hour or nothing which makes turning around or doing a quick U-turn in a small space very difficult, because I have to return it on every single time.😂
One issue that I think would help fix it is having an actual level intake because mine is at quite an angle right now working angle, but not correct angle light level, for example😢

The air leak was on the Chinadoll case probably a factory fault when he ran the ported China doll cylinder before he put that G2 Reed intake on, my spacer and minarelli cylinder , it's easy to get a bad seal , it can be a small leak that gets bigger during time. Why are you so convinced it's a problem with my setup ???? Ive heard You say this severally times , have you ever tried this setup .. I have not had the chance to try the VM carbs yet so I can't say. As far as the G2 Reed goes, mine is sealed, the issues was the crank seals. Will have her running strong here in a few days and we will take it for a nice rip :)

Air leak detection at idle isn't easy , you pressure test with 6 psi wait 30m it's a real pain . Different world under load conditions as you know . Those cranky seals can leak in only one direction eg vacuum only l heard, painful .In a pinch i used a heat gun to fix up a seal? Luck, can't leave any scratches on the surface when removing them. The reeds, i saw legend Samodel tuber glue them to same shape piece of glass then sand to flatten and thin the graphite to your preferences of tension . What a pain, multiple bikes make things complicated also .

I have exactliest this same McProblem on my mystery engine. I built me a trike a couple of years ago from a Schwinn stingray chopper, and a Heastrom 24" trike. And I've been fighting everything ever since it seems. Until now it just flat won't start at all! I've had to replace the CDI from a stage II and a coil off of a little 4 wheeler to a mystery coil. Then to the stock CDI coil combo. Had the headgasket leaking so I built one out of copper. Got so frustrated with the whole deal. I pulled the engine and decided to go 4 stroke. So after cutting half of my frame out to mount the 4stroke over the axle. It sucks. I hate it. Can't keep the (mouth full of cuss words ) chain lined up. Turned my whole build into
An abortion and now I've given up hope and I don't even care anymore. I quit!!!!!!!!
