    So if my issue is an insweep I should wear yellow paddle right gray paddle left?

    That outward catch mistake I typically make during breath on the opposing side. Never happens with snorkel on

      We see that a lot. We also see an insweep when breathing. Use some one-arm freestyle drills to fix it!

    Hmm, it seems that having a tiny bit of outsweep, and a tiny bit of insweep, which is old school, is making some what of a come back in freestyle. Consensus seems to be that with the fly, every one uses it. This after years of trying to get pretty much of a straight line pull....

      In both freestyle and butterfly, we want to press water straight back. There is necessary small outsweep in butterfly followed by an insweep, but in both strokes we want to create maximum propulsion, which means pressing water backwards.

      @@theraceclub Raul, over at Swim Skills just did a video about how the more S shaped pull is coming back into usage. It seems like this kind of happens naturally as part of the body rotation. Maybe more of an optical illusion rather than actual path movement. For sure, when doing the breast stroke pull out stroke, we use more of an S shaped pull... Have to play with it some more. Unfortunately, the Omicron made half of the life guard crew sick, and they were short staffed anyway....

      Still trying to figure this out. Guessing it comes down to what is the most efficient pull path. If you are slightly crossing your body, that is weaker. If you are pulling a bit too wide, that is weaker also. Optimal seems to be shoulder width away from spine and in a straighter line. We tend to recover and enter our hand very near the center line, and I would guess that is why some want a slight outsweep, which would move the pull path more into the ideal path. Funny thing, it seems to work on my freestyle, but it isn't necessary or efficient with my over arm side stroke.
      Still no clue on what the insweep is supposed to do. Some times it seems to feel right, some times not.... Oh well, swimming is always a work in progress....

    I used to have a mix of the two opposite problems. First, I was out sweeping when swimming free and fixed that, however since I was focused on keeping my arms close, it would lead to an in sweep when breathing. Eventually I fixed both lol 😂

    Fly used to be a key hole pull pattern. Now fly is more like a straight pull pattern.
    Thoughts on using this paddle for fly?

      We've thought about this before but have yet to do it. If you are going to do it, I wouldn't do too many yards of it.

    Doesn’t the sculling drill encourage in/out sweeps?

      Depends which sculling drill. One drill we use is the snap paddle drill, in which we focus on a high elbow catch and avoiding sweeping in or out.

    They seem to pull out to the side rather than back and then forward.

      The ISO paddles helps prevent the swimmer from outsweeping with the hands. Forces should be down and back, not out.
