- After many recommendations to try it, I've headed down to This & That Cafe which is very much off the beaten track in the Norther Quarter of Manchester. Opened in 1984, I've heard it's a bit of a hidden gem and that the value for money and the quality is excellent... let's see what it's like!
Please don't forget to like and subscribe to the channel and I really hope you've enjoyed my trip to Manchester.
/ @garyeats
Gary, I tried using your 'let's give it a go' catchphrase with my wife and she made me sleep in the spare room 😡
Lol she obviously “didn’t want to give it a go” . That made me laugh 😂
😂😂😂
Very Funny 🤣
😅😂😂
😂😂😂
I'm impressed. I'm a brit living in India, and you are getting proper Indian Indian food there. Mutton Saag (lamb spinach) is a traditional dish, as are all the others. So is having chopped onions, chillies, and other items to add to your dish. You've found a gem! And it's not even not much more expensive than eating in a similar place in Delhi.
Wow that’s a recommendation 👍
I'm sure the well known and infamous Delhi belly isn't a problem.
Youd pay less than 50 p for that in India .
Not true, wish it was! You might get a simple plate of chole and rice for 50p in a cheap place. The non-veg meal shown here would be 2.50 in a very cheap place, or about a fiver in a midscale place in Delhi @@kevinmeercat919
@@kevinmeercat919 Less than 50 rupees.
This is by far the best value, exceptional quality food you can get in Manchester. I visit at least once a week, a true hidden gem. The best day is Sunday, when they serve slow-cooked lamb nihari with bone marrow and ginger garnish. Fantastic!! I'm glad you visited this amazing family-run restaurant.
Totally agree 👍
Ramzy’s could just beat this place for value 🤔
Amen to this. Absolute Manchester institution!
Oh crikey I'll remember that for my next visit.
What an absolutely brilliant concept!, I wonder who originally said 'I know, let's open a place, no tablecloths, candles, no waiters or music concentrate on a few different curries each day, served quickly, a quick wipe of the table and onto the next customer'
It reminds me of an Indian version of a pie an mash shop.
Great comparison.
Hi mate. So basically there are a bunch of these in Manchester which where set up either Pakistani or Bangladeshie lads who had moved over after world war 2 to work in the mills who were living in houses together with like 10 other men and wanted home style food! Left is with an awesome legacy in Manchester that doesn't really exist anywhere else!
I visit Malaysia often and the setup here reminds me of the popular Nasi Kandar eateries you find there. Non fussy and great fresh dishes right there in front of you to choose from. Never had a bad meal from a Nasi Kandar eatery.
The local guy is right, its an institution in Manchester. I've been going there nearly 40 years and i love the authenticity and the quick service when dishing up! 😂
Quick isn’t the word as you know lol 😂
I keep coming back to This and That because I can't ignore the value for money, for very filling traditional style Indian cuisine.
It certainly was excellent value for money 💰
At a time when prices to eat out are skyrocketing (plus this service charge bs, just to milk more money out of you), these guys are serving delicious, homecooked food at a very good price. Massive credit and very impressive!
Agree totally 👌
Any cafe which has a small menu gets my vote as it means the food is probably cooked from scratch - rather that having a big freezer and loads of microwaves. Really like the canteen style of serving as it reduces food waste. Must visit this and that when next in Manchester.
Go for it 👍
Oh, I love restaurants like that. Limited menu so you can be pretty sure that all the dishes are made with fresh ingredients and that they are very confident in what they are serving. In today's economic climate, every town/city needs a place or three like that. where people can afford to go and get a good, hearty, home-style meal.
I totally agree Justyn excellent quality and value 👍
Named chefs like Kerridge and Ramsay don't help, charging a fortune for mediocre stuff, making a mockery of hard working chefs like this.
@@philjones45 I was thinking the same thing. That curry at Gordon Ramsey's restaurant wasn't just overpriced, it looked very unappetising. Southall in west London used to be very good but I've not been there for years.
First time I ate here, I thought to myself "wow, is this what Indian food is?" It's on another level to all others I've had.
Definitely Sam 👍
Hi Gary, our youngest son went to Uni in Manchester 10 years ago and unfortunately this place escaped us. Fortunately, he still lives there. Will definitely be going. Thanks for the great review.
Your welcome Gary, this is a definite “let’s give it a go” 👍
Go on a Sunday and get the lamb nahari! Unreal. There is also another one just outside city center called kabanna....the lamb chops, chicken tikka sandwich and nahari there are UNREAL!
We have a Rice and Three in our home town , it's a cross between street food and a takeaway.
Your not paying for ambience or presentation , this is homemade authentic cuisine at affordable prices.
A well deserved 9 but for authenticity , value for money , portion sizes and options available I'd give them a straight 10.
Excellent review as always 👍
Is this in Bolton ? I went to a rice and three when I was working there many years ago and it was really nice authentic food I will always remember it because apart Indian takeout I had never eaten the real stuff , this was about 20 or more years ago
Thank you excellent value 👍
@@peterolley7159 ...Indeed , the original concept was created by the This and That restaurant in Bolton back in the 80's .
@@peterolley7159 no this is Manchester. I've been to that one you're on about in Bolton though, it's just around the corner from where my mate had a tattoo shop. I too went about 20 years ago. Great place but I don't think it's there anymore.
@@fandangobrandango7864 Gary said he was In Manchester I was replying to geezee about the Bolton one , cheers though anyway 👊
I've just been in there on Saturday!! I always go with my daughter and the gentleman always treats us to free drink or naan ! It's an excellent establishment
That is awesome clearly a regular and I know why 👍
Considering the times and the struggles people are having this is an excellent place to expose to people looking for a meal out on a budget. Looks like an amazing find!
Completely correct Colin 👍
Evening Gary You looked so happy eating the curry. What brilliant value too! You obviously really enjoyed your meal today and that was plain to see. glad you gave it a 9/10 well deserved by the looks of things. Thank you again Gary really enjoyed your vlog as always and looking so happy. Sue
Thank you Sue, I’m always happy (hmmmmm) lol. Thank you for watching and commenting really appreciated 👍
Love the presentation - no frills in that serving technique 🤣 Can't go wrong for that kind of price can you, especially when it tastes that good!
No frills so not paying for the show if you like, excellent quality and value for money 💰
@@BryanHickman-dd6uh Trust me nothing in Prison looks anywhere near as nice as that.
Hi Gary, great show once again. I do believe your down to earth, no nonsense, honest approach is what is giving you such success. Also great to know that good quality together with good value is available in the UK. Well done all strength to you.
Thanks for that David, good value for sure 👌
TBH, this is my kind of food outlet, a limited menu being a plus. Affordable, freshly made, a rotating daily choice, back to basics, great food. I also noticed, fish one day!
The early Indian restaurants in London's Brick Lane were similar, no guessing their popularity with students like me back then. Surprised not more like this around the UK.
Same here! Max totally agree 👍
This is definitely the kind of place I would eat at. The type and style of Indian food I grew up with. Good wholesome no nonsense home cooked food at a very reasonable price. Perfect!
So good and well said 👍
This has been my go to curry house for 25 years now, consistently amazing. I'm glad you had the chicken chana and the lamb & spinach, top choices, I wish you'd have had the daal, it's so buttery and delicious.
It’s excellent Matt 👍
You'll spend 10 years in India and never come across a dish called chicken chana , it's positively disgusting
You rate the cabbage curry lad? Still my favorite!
@xsickpeoplex the cabbage, for how basic of an ingredient, beautiful and bare in mind it's been 25 years now exactly the same
@xsickpeoplex always a Tuesday and Saturday phenomenon
Keep it up Gary. Your reviews are spot on and really watchable. At this rate you'll be at 100K Subscribers in no time.
Too kind John. Here's hoping!
Unbelievable value. Down to earth , quality food like this is what we all need 😋
Couldn't agree more!
Absolutely!
Contrast with dull average disappointing fish n chips at £12 a go.
This is better value, and much healthier.
Hi Gary, been there and I was pleasantly surprised. I had Chicken Tikka Masala, rice and a garlic naan and it was really nice for the price. Plenty of food and even though it's a bit crude, nothing fancy at all, but the taste made up for it. I really enjoyed it and I gave it a 9 out of 10. Have a wonderful rest of your day and speak to you soon, mate! Hopefully I'll see you soon over a nice meal and a few pints, mate! 🍻😊
Thank you Frank. Glad you loved it mate, yes very soon we will do so. Have a superb week.
Thanks for sharing your experience. This is one of the places I have missed the most after moving away from Manchester. It’s nice and casual and having the option to try different things is the best part because you can try things you wouldn’t have normally.
For me, I discovered I’m a huge fan of the vegetarian dishes that I would never have tried normally.
I love this place, thank you for shining a light on it
Glad you enjoyed it see Ireland coming soon as well ☘️🍀☘️🍀☘️
A couple of years ago I discovered this place great curries and certainly value for money. After the chop experience this must have been a pleasant gourmet experience. Manchester gave us OASIS... I asked for an Oasis curry...you gotta roll with it.😂
Lol very good 👍
Thanks Garry , glad we can see a proper look at the menu ,and see what's on offer , And surely if they can do cheap prices up there , why cant they do it down here in London and Essex...
Spot on Malcolm. Thank you for watching mate.
This place is a gem. No frills but good food cheap. He's been feeding the truck drivers, construction workers, office staff, you name it, for 40 years. Glad you enjoyed it sir.
Was excellent Roman. Thanks for watching!
No service charge! 😍
Love the idea of a limited menu for each day of the week. I adore small local spots like this with legit good value authentic food.
Crazy good value compared to the £19 burger on Rate My Takeaways latest video (with no fries)
Nice find!
rate my takeaway has been there also. been going there year's. best about for taste and value
Ah! Didn't know that@@leemccabe2013
Thank you, excellent quality and value for money 👍
What service? For slopping food on a plate?
Anywhere that charges a service charge doesn't get repeat custom. Fuck that.
Great reaction. In the 70s, I came across an Indian cafe not far from where I lived in UK. Much the same establishment as where you were in the reaction. The meal was SO good. What I noticed was, apart from me, only customers who seemed to be Indian were enjoying the food there.
I’ve been watching you from the beginning so it’s amazing seeing you now eating somewhere I have been often, as it’s just around the corner from my office. I’ve never had a bad meal in This and That, I’ve been going for about 15 years.
Thank you for watching really appreciated, great cafe luck you 👍
Great video! I have been watching your channel for about 4 months now! So I was excited to see you come to restaurant I’ve been coming to for 23 years now, your appraisal is spot on! Back in the day we used to See Mick kickball in here on regular basis. The amazing thing is the standards never drop!
Awesome! Thank you! It's absolutely brilliant in there, good food.
Best plate of food in town, and this applies to all the Asian cafes in that area. Filling and value for money. They’re well known but I almost don’t want too many people to find out about these places so they don’t get too full, and full is how I feel when I leave them.
It's superb. Thanks for watching!
It's amazing how something looked like slop on the plate tasted so nice .very good value for money and you enjoyed it so its all good ...thx gary for all your hard work ...
Glad you enjoyed it Christine 👍
Well Gary one of the best reviews you've done, not to every one taste, but for the price with no frills its looks quite good, after a few beers what couldn't be better, great to see over 43k subscribers, you'll soon be hitting 50k. Cheers Gary.
Glad you enjoyed it Harold fingers crossed 🤞
Here comes the GOAT. come on Gary. Yet again the perfect review championing the lesser known establishment with fair and accurate comments. It’s great that you can state a place is not fine dining but still superb in its own way. That’s brilliant and very skilful/tactful.
Nobody else does that - it’s the reason you’re the GOAT. Tops. Keep it coming Gary.
Much appreciated and too kind David 👍
Another brilliant review Gary, keep it up! I've lived in Greater Manchester most of my life and never heard of this place. Will definitely check it out
Glad you enjoyed it and give it a go 👍
Amazing value! Home-cooked dishes. I wish that I was there. Thank you!
It was excellent value for money Sylvia, and quality as well.😄
Great value great food can't go wrong with that . Great video mate .👍
Thank you Tony really appreciated 👍
Wow, another great review, Gary. The food looked absolutely beautiful, and what a brilliant price
So good Paul great value 👍
You are very quickly becoming the go to channel for normal man / women in the street food reviews
Once again another honest no frills review.
So glad you found that place so it got the recognition it fully deserves.
Glad you like them! They're very popular.
I'm from Manchester. The curry cafes around that area are all fantastic. This and that's is one of the best, but there's also Yadgars, Marhaba and Kabana just round the corner. There's loads round there and they're all excellent. Kabana is amazing.
Good to know may have to do a comparison video ? 👍
That was incredible value for money Gary. The food looked delicious and really good plate size. Chicken and lamb looked very tender, in fact all the ingredients were top notch. You can see why this restaurant is so popular. Many thanks for sharing with us 👍👍👍
You're more than welcome Andreas.
The food looked great, and what value for money there. This is a place I will definitely be trying in the next few weeks. Looked so tasty. Great video Gary ❤
Hope you enjoy and thank you 👍
Sometimes restaurants are about good quality food at a good value price. This seems a classic. Other times it’s about an experience and an ambience. As always, your reviews resonate in terms of the things you look for and the value judgements you make. Keep it up :)
Spot on!! Thank you :)
That looked tasty and great value for money! excellent review as always Gary
Thanks 👍
No frills at it's finest. Nice looking food, great value, what more could you want. I used to go to Manchester for a curry often (the curry mile usually), and had somehow never heard of this place! Next time I'm over there though I'll deffo be giving this place a visit. Cheers for this :)
You're more than welcome.
I love the Northern Quarter full of hidden gems and you have definitely found one here Gary. Must admit I didn't know this one so really appreciate the video. Manchester is most famous for Asian food (imo) of all varieties so well worth a wander around this area.
You're welcome Jonathan. Give it a go!
Loved the video Gary. This place reminds me of the Corner Caf in Leeds back in the '90s. Basic decor, no airs and graces, great basic food, loads of flavour and great value. Keep it up, you are clearly doing it right, you have started to attract some really odd people in your comments, which all the best channels do.
Everyone is welcome David, almost everyone lol 😂
Me and the Mrs love watching you Gary ❤️ great work
I really appreciate you watching and commenting, all the best to the Mrs. 👌
Hi Gary, well what a meal, i was salivating just looking at it. that was a good portion on your plate. terrific value for money. thanks for another great vid..🦌🍛🍛
Yes it was John, thank you for watching and commenting 👍
Love the videos, it’s your down to earth style that makes me enjoy them so much. I live in the Greater Manchester area and will certainly check this place out at the earliest opportunity. Cheers 👍
Thanks Stan. Give it a go mate.
Love your presenting style, honesty, enthusiasm and politeness Gary. Fantastic work, keep it up - glad the channel is doing well, deserved mate.
Much appreciated my friend, great to see you commenting
Hi mate, Manchester is full of hidden gems serving some amazing Indian Pakistani foods, remember going up there and pals taking me to these small hole in the wall places off cheetham hill road, catering to the many warehouse and factory workers, you could get a meal for a few quid, and they are still around.
You won’t get a sit down meal but def some bargain no frills home style cooked foods ! I would reckon they would not be more than 5/6 quid for a meal even in todays climate
Unbelievable value to be had if you know where to go definitely 👍
Hi Gary,
What a great place to eat. Certainly looks like a hearty and homemade place to eat. No frills just great food. Wish i was in Manchester. Your channel is great and i enjoy your travels and honest opinions.
Stevie in Fife.
Thanks for watching Stevie very kind to comment that appreciated 👍
This review has made my day Gary. Wow that is cheap, looks outstanding. Superb video Gary. You're the champion 🏆
Glad you enjoyed it and thank you 👌👍
You certainly found a hidden gem. Good food at a reasonable price 👌. No service charge.
Boycott all restaurants charging service charge.
Service providers are to be rewarded if they give you good service.
If you're paying for bad service it's high way robbery. When it's forced on you. Great channel 👏
Completely agree Zawar, not a fan of service charge and will only accept it if it's top draw
@GaryEats I refused to pay the whole bill once because service charge was added. I waited over one hour for the first course. They didn't know the meaning of service.
They threatened to call the police. I left what I thought was fair minus the none existent service charge. Before that I used to pay even for average or bad service. That day I just got mad so now I never go to restaurants with service charge. I sometimes will send a email to a restaurant stating that I see you have a service charge. I want to book a table for 2 but will not pay the service charge. I will leave money for service that I believe is fair. 9/10 they agree not to charge service charge and leave it to me. And I found I got extremely decent service. So they got there service charge. I give it to the staff in cash 💸. Even though I paid the bills with a card. Service charge is supposed to be for the staff. Greedy unscrupulous owners pocket it. Sadly
We are now finding local restaurants where you pay not only an additional service charge, but also a separate VAT charge. Outrageous.
Monday and a Gary video - Nice end to a workday!
Nice one Greg, hope you enjoy 👍
I loved the way that food was given to you, reminded me of school dinners, I was expecting the guy to ask is that enough, lol! The food looked lovely, cheap but not nasty, certainly shames that Gordon bloke, those boiled potatoes had been well soaked in spices and all the lamb, excellent! They won't be able to do a cut price for their 40th anniversary, as the price is to low already! Supposed to be going to Liverpool towards the end of the year, will try to do a detour before getting there!
Youre completely right Deadman 👍
Oh that was so funny ,the way he served it hilarious, reminds me of when I used to go in a Chinese chippy in Liverpool, and my greeting was what do you want? Thing was they did the best food ever ❤
Incredible! I would go on a different day every week! I'm so glad you have done a review on this. For many families at the moment the price of eating out is just too much. A brilliant place for families and couples on a budget. And cooked fresh aswell... good on them, they deserve all the trade they can get and you putting them out there on social media.
Brilliant Melanie. Yes, you're spot on.
New to your channel Gary, all of your growth recently is so well deserved, seeing you take an intelligent, charming and interesting look into local British restaurants is refreshing content, im doing 10 overnight shifts on the trot and watching your vids over my break keeps some of my sanity intact lol keep up the good work!
That’s very kind of you. Thanks for that! I hope your 10 shifts go well and I’m glad to be able to keep you company during!
So pleased that the place got a good review .... it just makes me happy that in this day and age, places like that still exist. Quality and value. The locals are lucky people, and the owners deserve respect.
Indeed. Great stuff Steven!
This & That is amazing, the Nihari on Sunday especially. There's a few other great rice & three places that are worth a go too, Yadgar Cafe which is nearby on Thomas St just around the corner (cash only though so make sure you have some) and Cafe Marhaba which is also hidden on Back Piccadilly.
The original This & That was in Bolton before it moved to Manchester which is why they have Wanderer's crest on the wall cheekily bigger and between the two Manchester clubs!
Thanks Joe.
Hello Gary from Vancouver, Canada🇨🇦
Stumbled upon your page last week and have been binge watching ever since. I have been to Scotland but never England. I am thinking I will plan a trip in the future thanks to your channel.
Keep up the excellent reviews. Great camera work. Cheers🎉
Hello - thanks Bruce. Really hope you manage to come down to England.
my kind of place - great food, great prices no BS - I'll give it a go next time I'm home. so much better than the poncey chop house with its £2 gravy and 6 chips
Great stuff Frank!
Looked absolutely tremendous Gary ,I’m remembering that curry you had at one of Gordon Ramsay restaurants now this is proper couple of pints decent curry job done superb vid 👌
Makes Mr Ramsay look silly 😜
This n That has been a Manchester favourite for peeps in the know for 4 decades this year. They did delivery through Covid where you ordered 10 or so portions in foil trays, delivered to your door. Excellent people and excellent food, they provided free meals for hospital workers too during coved!
Yep. Superb and very kind of them.
*Astounding- a true hidden gem 👌🙌👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻*
This video says everything you need to know. You cannot beat this. What a find !
Thank you Glenda!!!
That looks great mate next time I’m up in Manchester I will check that place out. I also gave it 9 out of 10 by the look of the food and your review of it. Keep up the great work
Please do excellent value for money and great quality 👍
My Dads been going there for 30 years, I''ve eaten it all my life, 10/10 wont get better for your money anywhere no chance. Family run authentic amazing food its had the same staff for the 20+ years i can remember going there and im 33. You should try their samosas and Onion bargees and Chapatis next time :) Cheap and incredible
It's superb. Glad you and your family enjoy it
Brilliant as ever Gary. Keep up the interesting and varied reviews. Lovely stuff. 🙂
Thank you kindly
You can't knock that Gary unbelievable value such a flair with presentation keep the content coming Gary brilliant channel.
Wow, thank you! Jeff really appreciated 👍
(133) Oh, WOW!!! This is just like in the Southern American states that have a lot of "Meat and Three Vege" restaurants. Even down to the different menu selection for each day of the week!!!! Indian food is actually quite inexpensive; OK, you have an initial outlay for spices, etc. but the best dishes have simple ingredients.
With quality thrown in for £7.50. Can’t complain 👍
the thing is having a few items every day means it cuts down on waste, and they do not have to have 50 dishes for the kitchen to prepare so it removes stress.
I was worried it was going to cost more. but the price is amazing. far better than the £15 or more places you have been.
if you go back you need to film it again but get something different.
Far better price for the Naan. not a fancy place with expensive over heads but a good down to earth place that offers value
Well said completely correct 👍
Always a pleasure to watch you, mate....
Always a pleasure reading your comments Stephen. Thank you mate.
That looks amazing and great value for money, great review again Gary
Thank you Debbie, great value for money 💰👍
Saw qboy CZcams do this a few years ago looked nice
It was excellent Martin and great value for money 💰👍
Wow, love the menu by day selection at the entrance, it looks like the stock market lol.
Can't go wrong with Garlic Naan and Bombay Potatoes! Great choice Gary.
EDIT: Just realised the garlic naan is as big as a bloody pizza! Awesome!
Thank you, and thank you for watching the video and commenting really appreciated 👍
Carb fan? 😃😃😃put it all on toast!
Thanks for going to the ‘This and That’ cafe as recommended. I’ve been going there for 28 years and love it. It’s what is called ‘Appna’ style food, from the word Appna Gar meaning ‘our people’ , so it is what you would eat in Indian/Pakistan homes. I try to go on a Thursday as I love the spinach and vegetable, they do the best saag I’ve ever tasted. The keema is really good too. The lamb & spinach (saag gosht) is a popular dish and is often a staple dish at weddings where it often called palak gosht. Really glad you enjoyed it👍
You're more than welcome. Loved it!
Gary!
I stumbled upon your channel about a week ago, when youtube decided to slide your review of James May's pub into my feed. I've been binge watching your videos ever since.
I love your calm and honest approach and your respectful nature to each establishment, your videos ease my anxiety. As a kiwi, you have made me yearn to travel to the uk and visit all the restaurants and cafes you have been to (well at least the 8+ ones😅). Thank you for your videos and hope you have a wonderful 2024.
As always, let's give it a go!
That is really kind to say, I really appreciate you watching and commenting it means a lot. 😊
Spot on review!
That's a substantial meal for £7.50, not just a pile of food either as the flavour is there as well, and only £1.30 for the garlic naan, cracking value
Exactly Warren, great comment. 👍
Looks lovely Gary, 😜
It was excellent Raymond and unbelievable value 👍
Wow what an establishment, proper old school Indian food, one of my favourite videos you’ve done Gary!
Thanks Matty!!
Cannot go wrong at all there. Brilliant!
in a cost of live this is very very good.
It’s excellent value for money 👍
This and That is famous :)
Very very busy as well Francis, excellent quality and value for money 💰👍
Thanks for another great video gary you looked like you really enjoyed it deserved the score you gave it
I did Julie fully deserved the score 👍
At first it looked like a soup kitchen ngl
It’s all about the food 👍
I agree on a 9 for what looked like quality, quantity, and price, only thing that I'd have added if available would have been a curry sauce, i now they had a chilli one, but i think that one kills the flavours
Perfect comment Chris 👍
Fantastic VfM! Thanks for sharing.
Glad you enjoyed it!
I’m so glad you liked it… it’s a Manchester legendary institution. I think you got nice big portions there as well!
I love it!
Reminds me of an authentic Indian experience on the streets. Served quick, but with quantity AND quality. The prices are great too, what a place. Also, up the Fulham COYW
It was really good, Fulham playing well nice one 👍
Looks yummy
Just replied on other comment lol. It certainly was 👌
Love this place, and great that even after the lockdowns this has been going since the mid 80's!
Eaten here a dozen times over decades when in Manchester ☺
Always makes me chuckle when you shake your head-but then say WOW 😂
And as you said great value for money-another solid review 👍🏻
Thanks Mike nothing like this in London 👍
Love this. I can think of a handful of Indian restaurants near me that could learn a lot from this. I'm not sure I will make it there, but who knows. Really enjoyable video.
Spot on and thanks Alan!
HAHHAHAH your face in the thumbnail. Hilarious.
Sorry lol 😂
I thought it was going to be a bad review by the look on your face. Ended up great@@GaryEats
Good stuff!
Wow this is just like my favourite Indian place in Vancouver. It’s run by a family, has a weekly rotating menu, is cheap and is in an unglamorous food court next to many office buildings. There is always a super long line to get the dad to scoop a bunch of your choice from warming trays onto your plate 😂
It’s strange the small differences between Canadian Indian and English Indian. We don’t call every dish a curry. Only if the dominant flavour is curry we would call it curry chicken, etc. By far I would say the most popular dish in Canada is butter chicken.
There is no curry worth the name in Canada. It’s just bland slop
@@Lorneplumber Almost 15% of Vancouver’s population is South Asian, so I doubt it. I’ve never been to India to try the real thing, but why would the diaspora want bland slop 🤷♀️
Like butter chicken but not my go to as I like a bit of spice👍
The word curry translates to sauce/gravy in Tamil, it should be nothing to do with taste.
Unfortunately I think Chicken tikka masala, and butter chicken are the favorite dishes in most,if not all of the western world, people don’t know what they are missing if they don’t try other dishes.
WOW! That was value for money...and the menu changing each day would tempt me back again on a different night!... No frills, no fuss, just good nosh , at a fair price... who can complain at that?
Nobody 👍
Hiya Gary, love your videos and so do my parents! To the point, informative and well made. I see you were recently in my hometown - Bournemouth. Chez Fred is fantastic and actually tried it based on your recommendation, but if you're ever down this way again, I thoroughly recommend Dicky's in Southbourne... Incredible food!
Thanks Rich. Yep, it's great. Will try my best!
Hi Gary ...
Great review mate ...that's some dish for that price 😮
I sometimes can't work out from your face if something is going to be good or bad but it's lovely when I know your impressed with the meal ....
From a fellow Gary please keep up the great work 🙏👍🏻
Thanks Gary, keeping you guessing (by accident) lol 😂👍
nice :)
It was Connor 👍
