The 80s town episode showed the potential of Gigi and Andre. Usually they are major stereotypes. Gigi a black stereotype and an internet obsessed stereotype. Andre being the movie party Asian stereotype. In the episode they didn't have much access to their vices. So you end up seeing a more human side of them. Since there was a lot of story set up I how season 2 expands on them.

To me I think they're each supposed to be commentary of the actual driving forces of things in our lives. Not shadow governments but entities that exist out in the open.
J.R. represents mega corporations and the ultra wealthy as seen by his fixation on his wealth and status as well as running Cognito Inc which manipulates people's lives.
Gigi is social media misinformation. She seems the most superficial and unimportant but she's capable of taking down everyone and distracts everyone from the world around them.
Glenn is a soldier who gave his life and humanity for a farcical military project, tricks impressionable youths into signing up for the military, and who starts conflict for the sake of conflict. He's the military industrial complex.
Andre represents the pharmaceutical industry and other chemical manufacturers that get rich off of poisoning the planet and causing addiction. Like Purdue Pharma, DuPont and PFAAS, or the lead industry in the 20th century.

NGL the humor is so expansive from puns, satire, absurdity, taboo, dark , references and druggie. They didn't overuse any of those gags which is a prop to the writing team, so many shows fall to that. Plus the whole conspiracy and cryptid premise allow for futurama style comedy, as in what sensible and real in our reality is stupid and wrong in theirs.
Honestly shoutout to Shion , she came from Regular show and honestly that show team never got to experience the opportunities that Adventure time and Gravity fall did even tho it on their tier. Gravity fall spawn Amphibia, Infinity Train and Owl House and Adventure times spawn about 6 shows. . To see a regular show successor, is heartwarming and may more of the former team make their own shows.
    Jolly Good Show.

Edit : I know it's a movie reference. I just find it more funny as a joke making fun of someone making a movie reference, than as a reference.
ngl, I enjoyed the "I'm a captain now" moment, not as an actual joke, but more of as an anti-joke/characterization-joke. The joke itself isn't funny, but the person making it was a terminally online conspiracy nutjob, so the joke came across as exactly the kind of not funny/just sad joke that kind of character would make. Which lead to me deriving humor, not from the joke, but from the character thinking the joke was a good idea. I wasn't laughing with him, I was chuckling/cringing at him.

It showed two people, who had a bad childhood and didn’t make it “this is why I am a dick” it has had manny negative effects, but you can still see them as good people. I really love this show. I honestly really liked Gigi and Andre, but on more of a surface level- I totally agree that they were the least developed out of all of the side characters, and therefore have the least going for them. But I think they have a lot of potential as characters, and I hope we get to see them on a more personal level and get a little bit more development from them. I was talking to a friend about this show after convincing him to watch it, and we both concluded that the show might benefit from just a bit more character development all around- specifically, he pointed out that it might be nice for the side characters to be at the level that Brett and Reagan are at now (They get their moments of character development & backstory exposure throughout the episodes,) and for Brett and Reagan to be elevated to just a slightly higher level of character development. I am biased, though- in general I was interested less on the comedy aspect of this show and more on the story and characters, so of course I want to see more focus on character backstories and personal goals. Anyways, good video! I'll definitely be checking more of yours out now. :)

What I like about the show is that it doesn't make you laugh 24/7, instead it focuses on the plot rather than trying to make jokes every second that don't really land. Otherwise, it tends to be obnoxious and gets old quickly. It's also the fact that they talk about serious issues like Brett's history, those scenes make me pause and then I realize how much I relate to Brett. It has room to grow and since it's new and gaining a lot of popularity I have high hopes that the next season will make up for the flaws and the season

As an animator I actually really liked the animation! Don’t get me wrong it’s not perfect or anything, but they’re more fluid and lively than some other adult animated shows where they move like robots. The art style felt nice, one big problem i bump in to a lot is having your characters all have a similar face and body, like in big mounth. These designs really work from a design standpoint and a budget standpoint, since they are still pretty simple enough to not double the animators workloads.

Another issue I found with the show is that they made some of the secondary characters a little too unlikeable to have you care about them in the later episodes, and while I get that Reagan's friends (except Brett) are all meant to be overly cynical and downright assholes, they went too far with it to the point where it's difficult to tell what their redeeming qualities as people are, (as specially highlighted in the mole episode, where all of them immediately throw each other under the bus to save themselves regardless of any friendship), so it's even more difficult to picture reasons why you'd care about them as much as Reagan seems to do and it overall weakens the team dynamic.
Even though I think Myc would be the biggest offender of this, as he has literally no redeeming qualities as a weird fungus person (even when he loses his memory for an episode he's still an obnoxious ass) other characters like JR did pull off the whole "asshole" character quite well while retaining reasons to like them, in his case being the fun dynamic where he cares somewhat about the group but only because he's the ceo of the company they're all assets to, so there's a thin line between him being a danger to the characters and being a "boss".
But overall it was a pretty good show and this was a pretty accurate review, great work man!

    • @horushyperion76
      @horushyperion76 Před 2 lety +61

I can connect with Myc and Andre sheningans, humor and antics. Myc commentary is crass and rude which make it so absurd plus he a psychic mushroom so that why he hilarious. Andre well his humor is druggie mixed with anxious and unrealized potential, kinda a subversion on the mad scientist trope which is neat. Ngl Dolph was ehh to me though funny. But say for instance if Trevor didn't have this nicer side and also didn't actually care about Michael or Franklin, then it'd be difficult to believe when the characters risk their own lives to for some reason save him. And that's one of the very few issues I found with Inside Job, specially in the last episodes, where Reagan is dead set on saving her "friends" even if it costs her her dream job despite them clearly not willing to do the same for her. It's just too unnatural to take seriously and comes across as a bit shallow in execution

I really like how the show is also so subtle with its humor, im surprised wasnt mentioned.
Such as when Reagan's 99.9% match guy asked if it was fake Reagan who was acting racist in the restaurant then she lied in a sarcastic tone, also the emotionally moving background music suddenly cutting flat when Brett was in Dolphman's body told Dolphman that his looks was never the problem but his sh*tty personality, and also the scene where Rafe Masters was left trapped at the end of the episode with his nemesis and had their suspicious banter "Im going to ~burn~ off your testicles" and enthusiastic Rafe strangly replies "and then? 🥺"
So, big hats off to the subtle cues of the show

Normally we see either a distant parent or an overbearing one in shows like this, so this actually offers a fresh perspective on dysfunctional families in TV animation

the ONE issue i had with the show is definitely pacing. im unsure if this is because of netflix being infamous for cancelling shows so early-- which is why it's so fast paced?? but i think the gang suddenly warming up to each other in the span of TEN EPISODES is what confused me. in the first few eps, they absolutely HATED EACH OTHER, like 'willing to strangle each other with no hesitation' type of hatred. i got the sense that they were just there bc they happened to work together and thats FUN. i wish that, with season 2, they'll bring more depth to the characters and their connection with each other. i absolutely love this show, im on my 5th rewatch right now actually. its definitely not everyone's cup of tea, but considering netflix's history with adult cartoons?? this was a massive win to me.
also this might just be a me thing but i found all the characters strangely likeable in a weird way?? ive been seeing other people's comments on the second cast being unlikeable WHICH I TOTALLY GET. myc is definitely exhibit a for me, i have moments where im ehh with 'em but others?? im like this guy's fucking hilarious. same with the rest, i guess it's why i like them all so much. they're so ludicrous and fun for who they are, negative traits included. again, i feel like it's a matter of time since it's still the first season. i have very high hopes for what comes next, which unfortunately will take a while

I do Think there is more to the side characters then what we might Think at first. Glenn has his insecurities about his apaerence, and the problems with in his marriage. Both of which can be good to explore more. Mike comes from
The hollow earth, and the intro implies that his species made humanity. So we need to see that. Brent has his family, obviously. And even tho regans dad doesn’t have the most depth, I do think it will be interesting to see him in season 2. Even Andre might have more to him. In the wedding episode we find out that drugs is the only way he can battle with his anxiety, and he also screams something about coming from a Christian household. These could be really cool to explore more in the next season. Gigi is the only one where I don’t have anything specific to point to, but just because we havnt seen it yet, doesn’t mean it isn’t there.
