- KISS are both one of the most beloved and the most hated bands in history. With them being called a "Brand" not a band. With Gene Simmons and Paul Stanley acting as the Lennon and McCartney of the band. along with other superb musicians all through their career. This is KISS Part 2, detailing their career though the seminal heavy metal album "Creatures of the Night" to their most current album "Monster".

Ok... I like Hot In the Shade now, I have lost my mind
i love this channel!!!!
🤘💀🤘
HITS ROCKS!
Cool videos.. I love hot in the shade but I like unmasked, carnival of souls and elder so.... Gotta disagree about mark vs vv vs Bruce. Bruce can still play! Mark was the random note guy. Vinnie knows how to write. But Bruce kills it on asylum and revenge especially
Bruce is the best overall
What does AOR mean?
I was born in 1983, and "God Gave Rock And Roll To You" , was the first kiss song I ever loved.
The weird thing is, I didn't know it was kiss, I loved it because it was at the end of "Bill And Ted's Bogus Journey."
Which are movies that are largely responsible for my taste in music.
Those movies are the reason I love, Van Halen, faith no more, Megadeth, Primus, and of course kiss.
I was obsessed with both movies in the early 90's, I can't even explain In words how much they've actually had an impact on my life.
Like, for real.
It was almost like a religious awakening for a black kid, I'm the hood In the early 90's.
What are these sounds?
Doesn't sound like my parents music, or even my older sisters music.
I don't know who these people are, but I love it.
Is this what's called Rock and roll, that white kids listen to?
Well, I'm black, and I love it just as much, and I need to find more stuff like this, thus begun my music journey.
From 1995 until now.
All from just liking a movie.
I couldn't have said it better my brother. I'm from one of the toughest hoods in Boston where this music is mot accepted. Mainly because of the closed minds and ears. Not realizing that rock and roll is part of our people's culture. It's just that white people made more money from it was more acceptable by white audiences and their parents. But when chuck berry and little Richard did it was considered devilish music. And Elvis came along doing what we did he was god to them. But yeah i love my rock and roll and was never pressured not to listen to it by my peers. I do hope you know something about Mr. Jimi Hendrix . Anyways nice kicking it with you.
This doc series shows that most ppl that hate on kiss, have never gave them a chance. And it's so awesome that you have become a fan. Once you're in, you're in for life man lol.
shinnox -That's not 100% true. Only 50%. Because in theory there is two Kiss's. The 70,s era and The 80,s era.
I love the 70,s(original) version of Kiss but find the 80,s version, well, irrelevant. It's the 70,s version that got them famous. And to me, the 80,s version is like left-over dinner. And also, in the 80,s, Kiss is more of a brand than a band. In the 70,s they were a band, a band of brothers. 4 of the SAME guys touring the world for almost a whole decade straight. Now that's a band! That didn't happen in the 80,s because they kept changing guitar player's. And that's because Gene and Paul became more interested in the "brand" rather than the "band".
70,s Kiss is the only Kiss. Regardless of all the albums released in the 80,s. But they technically should be titled "half Kiss" in the 80,s anyhow! So you have 70,s Kiss and 80,s half Kiss. Two different bands and they should have two different names. But they don't because "The Brand" had to remain in Paul and Genes minds.
then again, if you take a bite of something that tastes like shit, why would you keep eating it?
We don´t keep eating it. If we were once loyal fans who worshiped our idols and sepent large sums of $$$ on then I guess we have the right to express our discourage for such dishonesty and travesty. Hate has nothing to do with that, at least I don´t hate Kiss today
Nah, I loved loved loved Kiss when I was young but even then I could smell crap when it was in the room and for me the smell started on Dynasty which is the last Kiss record I find listenable. I continued to buy every one of their records just to see if they got back on track and they never did, except for maybe some songs on Psycho Circus. Most of the no makeup years is just bad idiotic hard rock/metal with awful lyrics and they were so embarrassing to watch .I did attend a couple of no makeup tours and they were cringeworthy. I took a date to one and that was a freaking mistake as she rightfully thought I must be a chump to even waste the money and her time. Bye bye baby! I just don't see how anyone can like the band after 78/79 unless you are 13 years old or blinded by nostalgia.
shinnox + I am a lifetime fan, but I can't stand the Animalize through Crazy nights period. I think people didn't understand the original version with the makeup. The crap after Lick it Up is the reason why people REALLY didn't understand them. The band that took off their makeup, but replaced it with poser makeup.
I love every album Eric Carr played on...and his drumming best they had
Michael hembree , I won't argue with you there. Eric was awsome. & Double & Triple Awsome !!!
Yell Michael Eric Carr was very good ! I would have loved to see Eric Carr play live, never got to. I allways say the best drummers in kiss name was and is Eric . Saw singer 4 times he is very good , Peter Criss was bad, very bad! Saw him 2 times, reunion and farewell tours ! 🍀🍀🍀🍀
singer is good
But I like eric carrs playing better more heavier
michael hembree l totally agree on that.Ill allways wish l got to see him live Eric Carr was the best drummer kiss had... 🍀🍀🍀🍀🍀🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🤘
You’re not alone in loving Crazy Nights, or AOR in general
The best Winter Mayhem retrospective! Nice work.
I grew up collecting Kiss cards in the late 70s when I was 6-8 so I was a bit too young to listen to them. They were massive - every boy my age was intrigued by the mystique. However, I never got into them musically but always had a soft spot for them. Watching the 2 videos brought back long lost memories. What is apparent is the way they could evolve across the decades: from hard rock to dabbling in dance grooves to hair metal in the 80s to something a little more grungy in the 90s. Even though fans might whinge about the albums from Dynasty onwards they showed they could adapt. That’s why they have had such a long career. I appreciated the videos and have a new appreciation for Kiss. Thanks
Carnival of Souls is one of my favorite KISS albums.
These 2 retrospective videos have been great. Thanks for doing them as well as you have.
We lost eric and freddy mercury in the same day.
If you havent already, you should checkout the demo for not for the innocent. Paul shares lead vocal duties with gene. Its been floating around CZcams for awhile now
They didn’t die the same day, they died a week apart
@@anonymousex-cop8212 It was same day as Mercury.
@@anonymousex-cop8212 same day numb nuts
Thanks for this. Greatly appreciated!
Awesome work! Thank you!!! I really enjoyed this!!!
Great VID!! Thanks for keeping me company all day at work today :)
Another great video Brody!!! Good job
Bob N Such thanks man
Love that clip of Gene telling Paul to stop cutting him down in front of the camera shows the true dynamic between those two and not the we're best friends narrative they try to pass off to the fans
FishingIndiana It’s not that black & white. They were best friends, no doubt sharing a vision, so much time & everything else, they became like brothers & sometimes will bug each other, but will also say so and work it out
gene was awol in the 80s and paul did all the work and kept the band from dying,if it were up to gene kiss would of ended in 1982. He lost interest once the makeup came off, paul had to take the band by the reins and keep them alive alone. Why this video hates paul is beyond me,andythng positive after 1982 is because Paul kept the band going..Gene didnt put any effort into the band from 1984-1992 until the revenge album. listen to some of his 80s songs, not 1 hit and alot of filler garbage. Paul was pissed at gene deserting him when it was supposed to be both there dreams to be in kiss and nothing else. Thats why gene had to buy Paul a Porsche that is featured in reason to live, gene had to say his was sorry, paul drove that car home..
Best friends or brothers will often harp on each others harder than anyone else.
Um Paul Stanley and Gene Simmons R Not Best friends
Stanley acting like a woman
Very cool. Thanx for posting
So I just watched part 2 because amazon fire tv reccommends videos like this cause they know I love KISS. (lol) .And man what a great job on the video.I'll watch part 1 soon. You're a huge KISS fan with your opinion present but not overshadowing the essence of why we all love KISS! Thanks and this took me away from some bullshit in my life for an hour and 23 minutes.Rock on brother.
I’ve been a huge KISS fan since 1978. Great insight, great video!
I love this documentary! Great job 👍🏻
Thanks again for a great video, but not the screams 🤘😀🤘
What a great video!!
Brilliant work. Appreciate your hard work.
Download here we come.
Love it, The 3 sides comments were priceless & this was a great retrospective overall....
I really like Carnival of Souls - admittedly, it doesn't sound like a Kiss album, and they're obviously ripping off the popular bands of the era - but that said, it's a really good album.
Yes! Love that album.
Agreed🤘🔥
Awesome video, well done reviews and comments...great find!!!
Im from Melbourne Australia . I saw the Australian tour in 1980, my first concert. Eric Carr ruled R.I.P. I saw them at the reunion tour 1996, 3 times. I saw them at the Farewell tour 2001. I saw the 40th anniversary tour in Australia in 2015, I saw the Kiss Symphony concert at Edihad Stadium Melbourne, it was loud and very emotional, having the symphony orchestra was the real sonic boom! They should take the symphony show on the road. That was very special to see.
This was cool. Loved part 1 and 2.
Love it - Thanks Mr. NetWork
Awesome documentary! I love all the eras of KISS!!!
This is great!
Peter, you said it best. Thank You
This is a really cool labor of love. Thanks!
Ps. I agree with you about St. John's talent.
36:12 Gene wears a Misfits tee while performing with Kiss.
48:43 for a second I thought Gene was wearing an In the Court of the Crimson King tee - how cool would that be
I Still Love You is def one of Paul's best songs, which also features a great guitar solo by legendary bluesman Robben Ford. It's insane how many great session musicians/outside collaborators have been associated with KISS behind the scenes.
Eric Carr saved KISS...........period........Vincent helped, but, Carr gave them that heavy hair-rock sound that they needed to stay relevant at the time, no matter who they had on the guitar at any one time.
Anguirus2012 yup, you are correct.
his drumming style pushed them from pop to metal so yeah, him and Bruce gave them new life..
Eric Carr was an absolute professional in every way. Just a beast of a drummer!! R.I.P. Eric.
Wrong, Paul stanley saved kiss
@@Usachatnow He saved them during the Animalize/Asylum era. Eric Carr saved them when Peter Criss left.
Badass way to end the video with Ace and Gene playing Cold Gin
Loved it!
What most people think is disrespectful are really true facts and I agree with you on either singing in a lower key or don't do the song at all. Also, I love this series because it's from a fans perspective. Great work man!!
Great video! Loved the Brainvoid dig.
GREAT JOB BRODY!
Creatures had a number of guitarists, including the lead from Mr. Mister. Recent interviews with the producers and those on the inner circle during this recording have confirmed Vinnie's participation was actually quite minimal here. The real reason Ace was on the cover is because KISS was still trying to get him to stay to save their contract with Polygram which dictated the band have three original members. The alternate cover came many years later when the band was trying to push their makeup free image but felt the album might benefit commercially if the public saw the current lineup.
I loved this album then and now... when I bought this when it first came out I could not stop listening to it.
Me 2 brosef
Impressed man. Done a great job on this one.
I had every intention on ending after the farewell tour you can see an interview about it the farewell tour interview. But later on that's what they used as an excuse A Farewell to Peter an ace
Skab kiss!?!? What's that? The new generation of Kiss fans?
By putting Tommy and Eric and Peter and Ace makeup? It definitely divided the KISS Army
Okay you explained scab kiss
Great job!
I absolutely LOVE Carnival of Souls! I think its much more than a grunge album. I bought it at a Kiss convention in 96, a year before its release.
7:46 The weird key lookin' thing Brody is called an Egyptian Ankh. He was apparently the Ankh Warrior. Good vids mate!
Thank you.
that was paul invention they were trying to erase the spaceman and catman in 1981 and then realized they couldnt,no matter who wore the makeup. Peter and ace sold there makeup rights to g&p long ago so they have no right to bitch. People get beyond silly with this stuff, because brett favre was the greatest gb qb should no one ever play qb for the packers? No they had there time and things moveon with or without u..
@@vegasraiderspetef9883 "because brett favre was the greatest gb qb should no one ever play qb for the packers? No they had there time and things moveon with or without u.."
🤔 Hmmm, that actually is a pretty damn good analogy. Viewed in that light, KISS is more like an entity that's bigger than any one member and could thereby continue throughout time (like a football team) so long as the enlisted member(s) embrace the essence, heart and soul of what KISS is. There are few to none bands that could pull such a thing off. . . KISS actually could.
Thoughts?
Great doc on Kiss dude I loved it I grew up listening to kiss early 80s I remember when they removed their makeup. My 1st album was kiss Alive and was a fan ever since
Great job I’m watching this for the 2nd time and both parts are even better the second time around. I’ve always been a kiss fan since hearing alive 1 with my mom when we listened to her copy of the record on vinyl. Something about bands like kiss they just sound better on vinyl.
Great docu. But MAN those horrendous screams!! What were you thinking!??
I watched this with headphones and my ears were bleeding!!
Awesome!
I've got to say that I really enjoyed both of these videos. It kind of made it feel like friends talking about KISS. That's exactly how I would have talked to somebody about the band. Versus trying to make it like a respectful documentary or something.
Just watched it and although I didn’t agree with some of it I found it to be a great watch. Thanks for the video!!
Bob Kulick played in Paul Stanley's Solo band when he came to Detroit I saw Paul & his solo band play at a Detroit Bar. They did great. Eric Singer was his drummer.
Love it loud!👍
I agree with about 90% of your comments and song favorites. The biggest difference (and this is probably me in the minority) is that I cannot really wrap my ears around Monster, just don't care for it. Thanx for doing these videos !!
You are a metal scholar my friend. Particularly, the Michael Branvold trivia bit was a winner! lol
I gotta tell you your docs of Kiss far exceed theirs. You are a wealth of information and I fucking love it. Some of the shit you dig up is amazing. More man more.....
Just because people are fans of KISS doesn't mean they have to agree with everything they do.
I’ve only REALLY listened to Crazy Nights ONCE, but there are some good songs. Now’s the time to revisit it once again.
gotta love that war machine, the riff is iconic
Interesting documentary and enjoyable. I disagree with some of what you said (mostly on favorite songs on albums and which ones that you thought were the worst) , but that is cool and it is interesting to hear different opinions. I disagree with a lot of what you said about Paul, but again everyone is entitled to their own opinion. To me , I have gained more respect for him over the years. Not that I agree with everything he says or does, but he was the only member of KISS that really kept the boat afloat since it's inception (by Gene's own admission he wasn't there mentally during some of the 80's). Still a well done documentary done by a true fan.
Thank you, you can't take that away from Paul doing almost all the work. I should have mentioned it but I never said he didn't do most of the work either,
Well, I agree about the other guys wearing the Catman/Spaceman make-up . I think they should have took the make-up off after the so-called final tour (which I am glad I missed, lol). As much as I don't like Eric and Tommy wearing it, I have to say Ace and especially Peter shouldn't really complain ,because they both either sold or leased the rights for the use of the characters. I know Peter has been very vocal about this , but he wasn't forced to do that. So while I agree with Peter about how he feels with others wearing the make-up, he shouldn't have gave those rights over for some quick cash. in the first place. From my understanding they didn't want to come up with new designs, because the other ones were already established and are much more marketable and truth be told most younger fans probably don't know Eric from Peter or Ace from Tommy. Personally I think that stinks and they should have probably have ended the band after the bogus Farewell tour (or earlier) and went on to do solo stuff or Paul and Gene could have started another band with a smaller ,but loyal, following.
And Ace didn’t leave before Peter, Peter quit in 2000 because of the money, when Ace admitted to him what was going on, Ace quit in 2002, Peter came back in 2002.
FUCK YEA BEEN WAITING FOR DIS BADBOI VIDEO FOR AGES
Thank you for being an honest KISS fan. I've been here for the whole ride. I fell in love with the music first. The look second. My parents forbidding me to have anything KISS, completed the hack. I don't care for any of the bs politics either, but as anyone who's ever been in a band will tell you. "Sometimes, being in a band two weeks, is two weeks too long." And though I'm sad it's coming to an end, I'm reminded of the immortal words of John Lennon. "It's just a band. That's all. f you need to feel nostalgic, you have all those great records to listen to."
great job
Kiss alive 3 is so kick ass.
Tommy Thayer should have been the robot and Eric Singer should have been the hawk that way they would have kept up with the sci-fi character on guitar and the animal character on drums.
123612100 I agree with Tommy and Eric not using previous characters. They could have been Spaceman II and the Cat II (in a comic book kind of way, like Robin -Dick Grayson, Jason Todd, Tim Drake and Damian Wayne-), with their own make up, outfit and stage gimmicks.
I always thought it was a bit weird to have other people use their make up. Eric Carr and Vinnie Vincent were different. Did they run out of ideas?. Nothing against Eric Singer And Tommy but they were not original band members. So they needed something different but what ever just an opinion.
@@rickvalentino6920 At this point KISS are in the twilight of their career. There's no point in doing new characters now. If they never took the makeup off in the eighties, then yes. But not now.
@@ferox965 I know it's such a trivial thing. But some fans do have issue with it.
If I recall correctly, Gene has stated that he actually hates the 'unmasked' era of the group. Can't say I blame him.
The Eric Carr era of Kiss is my favorite version of the band. 🤘✊👍
Carnival of Souls kicks ass!
Your suggestion that KISS can do entire concerts with Gene only songs and that Gene can sing Paul songs like Detroit Rock city shows you need some true education about a great many things.. namely the difference in vocal range between Gene and Paul, which is considerable.. and the fact that 90% of KISS's most notable songs are sung by Paul. Now.. it IS true that KISS could do an entire concert with Gene only songs if you include all the Gene songs from the first 6 albums. That would be enough material for the entire concert AND the true fans would LOVE those deep cuts! A better suggestion would be to have Tommy and Eric sing some of the Paul songs because Gene can't pull those off.. I guarantee it.. Eric has the highest range after Paul, so I think Eric could pull off some if not all of the Paul songs. Peter Criss could have as well.. He had a very high range and great power.. too bad Paul's voice went so far south.. He truly had one of the greatest Rock voices of all time..
I ordered Lick it Up on vinyl, original pressing, and itll be here today. I LOVE the guitar on that.
KISS ALIVE III IS AWESOME!!!!!
All Hell Breaks Loose was written by Eric Carr.
I wish I could have been born in the 60’s or 70’s so I could have been with this band from the very beginning. I’ve only been to one concert and it will probably be my last concert. Luckily we live in an age were we can watch concerts in full on CZcams.
Creatures is a great album, top 5 Kiss album for me, for sure.
When Paul and Gene die, KISS can continue forever will different people. Think how weird it can get if 100 years from now on KISS will still be around.
Honestly, I will probably check out without Gene or Paul. I'll have a look, but I dunno...
Love the passion you have for creatures and lick it up 2 heavy great Fucking albums 👽 kiss at their absolute best.... In the 80s!
Tommy Thayer looks like Aces black stunt double in Kiss meets the phantom
The stunt double is probably Tommy's real father.
Farrell McNulty lol 😂
YOU WANTED THE BEST! but we hope this will do....
Lick it Up brought me into 80's metal and motivated me to get a job to buy my pos first guitar, a pawnshop special "Tiesco DelRey". The next time KISS would floor me was Revenge and that album was fantastic. I wish KISS would have stayed rolling down that path of gritty knarly brooding rock. Lick it Up and Revenge are still what I consider in my mind their best. Introduced to Kiss in the 80's, a time when guitar solo's were a measure of the bands status of musicianship, I appreciated the older genuine versions of KISS but just couldnt get into Ace's playing when I could hear Vinnie or Bruce who were far more technical and relevant to the times. I do miss those days.
Love Animalize. I have nostalgia because I listened to that cassette as a kid. Also have an old tour program from it because my dad saw them then.
Kiss is still the best band in the world by far. 48 years and still playing sold out shows all over the world..
Loved kiss in trondheim paul is not the same but it kickt ass ...
Iam all in with you on the way to look at the albums and the rest ..
2 best album creatures of the night and lick it up ..well dame good video sums it all up .
I understand the concept that they are characters which are beyond the people underneath the makeup. It is flattering to the original members that what they created still goes on. It is also about merchandising the KISS brand, which are the characters. As long as they give 100% to the fans, that is what counts. Name calling doesn't help - as in Scab KISS. The underling opinion is valid, just not name calling, which is really what using Scab KISS really is. A scab was a derogatory term to describe a strike breaker. The original member license the characters, so it is authorized no matter what they say. If they license it -meaning they get paid - they are approving it. As for fooling the fans, if the name they actual people that played, then they have met their burden. That is my opinion. Thanks for asking for it.
I'm 55 and been a kiss fan since I was 10 and I think that to me it doesn't matter that ace and Peter are not there, don't get me wrong I love them dearly but Eric and Tommy do a phenomenal job on giving the fans what they want. I also believe the reason for it is also because most of the songs that are sang at their concerts today are from the 70s and 80s. So they want to bring those memories as they were back in the days too there fans. Bad or good kiss will always be the number one band in America. There good hearted people, they do what they have to do and they give there fans what they want. Oh yeah! Stop screaming in your videos most of us wear headphones. Nice video, really enjoyed it. 👍✌️🤟
Oh yeah one more thing don't compare Paul's studio voice of heavens on fire to a alive version. No one sounds the same when there performing live.
Loved this retrospective and thanks for your honesty about the entire history of this group! I truly believe the 80’s period helped keep the legacy alive by taking the makeup off. I myself prefer the Original 4, but no matter which carnation of KISS you like, they will FOREVER BE THE BEST!!!!
I fuggin love 80s KISS! 🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻
I talked to a guy that worked for the studio when Kiss did Psycho Circus, and we know Ace and Peter were offender $800,000 each to not play on the album, but G&P didn't want them to get any kind of royalties and the guy I spoke to said he heard Paul say Ace and Peter weren't talented enough to be on the album.
Now that's alot of yellow ad bars. but love your content so won't turn that blocker on, keep up the good work! Hi from edge country aka Norway.
If you want to go ahead. We're only gonna have the ads like this temporary, since it's very likely we can lose the right to monetise this video so we're trying to make what we can off of it for now.
Shit, dude. Do more glam metal bands! I love these!
Hot in the shade is a great album in my opinion. Betrayed, Silver Spoon, Forever, Loves a slap in the face and hide your heart. Kiss's best album of the 80's for me.
Thank you for this upload.
I find it impossible to get excited about post Peter and Ace KISS. Sure, COTN and Revenge are good albums (and LIU has its moments), but 70s KISS were at the front of the wave of rock shows and 'the rock and roll experience'.
In the 80s and beyond, KISS was chasing this trend (chunk-chunk-chunk metal in the early and mid 80s, which most bands did better) and that trend (more fire, girls, and flashy videos), trying to do their version of it to stay relevant. Again, there were/are some decent songs on some of those albums, but there was SO MUCH BETTER music than KISS during those eras, esp in the early 80s and early 90s that I couldn't possibly take any of those albums seriously, not in comparison to what else was out then (Scorpions, even Dokken, DLR VH, for ex in early 80s, and Nirvana, AiC, Soundgarden, RHCP, TON, and NIN (to name a few) in the early to mid 90s).
I'll stick with 70s KISS. No one would even know who they are without that band and that line up, and NO WAY would they have been able to go on in the 80s and beyond without the phenomenal success they had with Peter and Ace.
great good quality footage of brazil 83!
Just watched this last night. You are 100% spot on in your commentary here .. IMO, they need to just stop. I don't want to hear or see them trying to keep doing this in their 70s. It just doesn't work anymore.
Eric Carr's drumming was awsome in CoTN and he was a great replacement. But my favourite albums were made on the make up era (Love Gun, Rock and Roll Over, Kiss and my guity pleasure "Unmasked"). Great videos, sorry for my lousy English. Greetings from Argentina.
They recorded Kiss Alive III in Indianapolis at marker square arena. They had mics hanging from and Paul said about it. They recorded it in 3 places. Detroit and the other city slips my mind.
Eric Carr was in Kiss 12 years, something like that. Every album except one went atleast Gold in US. His insurance stopped so he couldnt pay medical bills anymore and died? I know Gene and Paul didnt give him fair cut but still he must have had millions. Atleast few millions. I like when rock stars crash their lamborghini and people will say you dont understand: He crashed his car, insurance didnt cover it. He couldnt get to the studio from his 7000ft, 3 storey, Bel Air mansion and couldnt make next record. So he just faded away and died dirt poor.
Eric carr net worth at the time of his death was 3 million..they fucked him
KISS ROCKS
Creatures of the night by far the best Kiss album, amazing !
