    Re zero to me is how to become a hero. Never give us is easy to say, but hard to do.
    Subaru is the embodiment of persistence and will.
    Watching him succeed make me feel like I should do better with my life, maybe I could try something i failed in the past again.
    Great video, thank you!

    (Spoilers, sorry)
    What I love about the show is that the actual resolutions, albeit really small at times are the climax of the show.
    Take the first arc. Getting to know her name… Her actual name is the pay-off. The reward, the climax. A lot of people think it’s the deaths, yet. That’s the rising action, the journey to that happy end.
    In arc 2 that’s finding out the truth and making friends with everyone. Arc 3 is (in my opinion) saving the village, the rest is just a plus. Arc 4? Becoming knight…
    And I’d say, yes, Re Zero isn’t actually a happy story. The deaths of arc 1 solidify that everything Subaru knows, the reason he is in love with Emilia? She doesn’t know. He gets ridiculed but also misunderstood because of things he only remembers.
    Same in Arc 2. The most important conversations get lost due to his return by death, the demon talk with rem, the story time with Ram. That and besides a loop where he tries to do the exact same things, he isn’t seen as genuine and killed off for it. I think you could’ve expanded on the “inside he feels really horrible and on the outside he’s overextending himself” part. It’s not really that; he’s not genuine. He has given up at that point in time. EVERYONE sees through him, the only reason he’s still alive at the end is that Emilia vouches for him.
    But… Well, Arc 3 also has important storylines that are lost due to Return by death… the friendship bondig with Otto for example, his best arc with Juulius is cut up. Arc 4 has a lot of things with Beatrice.
    But in arc 3 that’s also the reason a certain girl breaks with him. He keeps spouting on about things she doesn’t remember, to the point her bonded animal laughs at het that she has no friends and he doesn’t understand why she likes him so much; since they both have no recollection of said events.

      The misunderstandings that come as a result of Return by Death are some of my favorite parts of the show. I actually made a whole video about it a couple months back. Re:Zero really digs its teeth into that subject in a way a lot of other series would gloss over.

    Still my favorite isekai anime to this day. It really does feel so much different than the rest, and I value that a lot.
    Subaru as a protag is fascinating to watch, and it really hits different to rewatch this series when you have the full context of his character and why he acts the way he does. He's incredibly complex, and while some people might not like that, or they think he's annoying or hate-able for some reason, I find him incredibly well written.
    He's a normal guy put into a world of fantasy. Right away he acts like anyone would expect from an isekai. He thinks he's going to get powers, that he'll unlock some hidden potential or be swept off his feet by a beautiful heroine who falls head over heels for him because he's the main character.
    But that isn't the case. He comes to realize he truly is just a normal person in a world of magic and fantasy, etc. And he learns the hard way that everyone around him don't exist for his benefit or his happiness. Emilia isn't made for him to flaunt over or to flaunt over him as he originally hoped for, and other characters who he grew close to end up having darker intentions for him than he thought, and so forth.
    It's a story about a character who learns the world doesn't revolve around him just because he's the protagonist. He has to use his own wits, his emotions, and his intelligence to solve problems and become the hero he wants to be, and to understand the people in his life also have their own stories and motivations that don't have to involve him all the time.
    He gets stuck in the head space of being some big savior who's going to save the girl he loves and earn her devotion, but the reality of existence hits him pretty hard. He has many flaws, and those flaws come back to bite him.
    And eventually, it's revealed that a lot of his behavior is just a cover-up for his fears, weakness, and lack of charisma, because he _knows_ he's unlikable. He knows he can't compete with everyone else, he knows he's not as special or worthy of love, and he's not as strong or important as he kept acting or implying. He hates himself. He thinks he's nothing. So when he came into this new world of magic, power, possibilities, etc. he had hoped it would be his chance to make something of himself, to be someone who can be appreciated and actually matter.
    He thought he had been given a new chance to make something out his character, to start fresh, but he ended up feeling more and more hopeless and lacking of character despite all the effort and work he put in for those he loves.
    It's an incredibly thought provoking, complex story when you dig into it. Subarau is a very realistic protagonist, and relatable to some people even. I could never hate or dislike him for that, and this anime would absolutely not be the same if he wasn't the way he is 💙

    You know, even though I don't like arcs 7 and 8 nearly as much as the earlier ones, it's those themes of hope and perseverance, as well as further development for Subaru that keeps me going. Tappei does an amazing job with his characters and this story. Thanks for the awesome vid ~

    • @rea2887
      @rea2887 Před 7 měsíci +6

      Really? I'm the opposite tbh early arcs like 1 and 2 are my least favorite ones, arc 7 and 8 also have actual character death unlike 4 plus way better worldbuilding than any of previous arc so vollacchia empire arc ended up as my second favorite in re:zero only behind arc 6(thinking about it now arc 4 is very limited with the cast stuck in one single place for like 130 chapters meanwhile arc 7 and arc 8 the cast actually travels from place to place and i really liked that personally).
      Besides that i also think new characters writing like yorna and todd are amazing.

    • @Blinkehyo
      @Blinkehyo Před 7 měsíci +3

      @rea2887 I think what made me dislike it more was things getting bigger and less focused. I tended to have a better grasp on the story, themes, gravity, and characters back when things were smaller and the threats were more clear and focused. Now it feels much more different with so many new characters and locations and the whole teleporting around thing (especially when the Emilia cam stepped in) just frustrated me. But it wasn't bad at all, I really liked the gladiator island and chaosflame parts

    It's different yes, but it has shortcomings some of which it shares with other isekais
    The biggest problems is the amount of plot related side stories and the anime cutting off the most important plot points
    I could go on
    For me the anime is a C tier and the novels are a B

      @@bandarsalh1338 well, it isn't even a plot driven story to begin with... plot and world building has clearly less focus than character development in this show.. also the effort to include as much content as possible from the novels is VERY notable in this series, there are a LOT of episodes without intro or outro and even eps with more than 24 min just to include as much content as possible from the original material. but as you can guess its just impossible to translate different midias perfectly.
