One sight many visitors to the bird island of Runde miss; is when the large flocks of seagulls go in for landing on the biggest small lake on the island. That is a sight to behold ! There one can also see the ruins of several old stone barns the locals used in the old days in the summertime.

if you make the trip here again, you must check out the the mountain Slogen by Øye. The mountain Skårasalen by Sæbø And Horningdal rokken by Hornindal. Molladalen On to jønshornet from barstavika

Watching your plan of climbing Besseggen…without actually climbing Besseggen. It is a ridge, incredibly steep on both sides. You are in fact skipping the ridge, the whole point of the hike. 😮. Hope you go back and do the ridge some day, you missed something very unique. Looked like an incredible day though.
Thanks so much for checking out the video! I'm sure the ridge is amazing! The point of the hike was actually to challenge myself to make it to the last ferry on time. Hiking the normal Besseggen Ridge trail would have been too easy. I used that as a reference point since it's such a popular trail and the DNT had info on how long it usually takes people to hike it. I wanted to explain that hike so you could compare it to the hike I was doing. I hope that makes sense!

Geat video, Seth! I've done the Besseggen hike myself a couple of times, but went from west to east. I've also done Besshøi one time, starting/stopping at Gjendesheim.

I have not done Galdhøpiggen yet,@@SethUmbenhauer46, but it's on my list as well. Another iconic hike in southern Norway is up Gaustatoppen (1 883 m). A "sunday walk" for someone like you, but still something to check off the list. It is said that you can see one sixth of Norway from the top. There's also a small café with waffles up there, in true Norwegian style. I'm looking forward to future videos.

Thanks, now I want to go back to Norway so bad! Watched it twice already, first by myself and then with the family. We've missed the last ferry back in '96 (had a tent, but you can stay at the Memurubu hut as well), and hiked the Besseggen in the sensible direction once too - you really need to check out the official route one day. Can be a bit crowded, though, it's very narrow and steep. Remember that the estimated time given is always norwegian, i.e. quite optimistic... (if you insist on challenges, aim for the last ferry from Gjendebu 😉).
Another nice waffle hut nearby is on top of Fannaråken (2068m), it's a hike, not a climb, so suitable for kids too. Scenery there is epic (Store Skagastølstind nearby - now THAT is a climb... only for seasoned climbers, mind).

If you want to see puffins up close then you ought to try Faroe Islands 😉they are situated between Iceland and Scotland

Thank you for an amazing video. I have been hiking in the Norwegian mountains for more than 30 years, but unfortunately I am not able to do such trips any more, only shorter, due to health issues. However, watching your video brought back many memories from hiking, especially in Jotunheimen, often hiking tours arranged by the Norwegian Tourist Association, DNT. 3 times I have made the Gjendesheim/Gjendebu-Besseggen- Memurubu hike. Thanks a lot-again- for bringing those memories back, and I am so impressed to see a foreigner hiking off the main track and doing such demanding hiking. By the way, Slingsby, another Brit, was one of the first to explore and climb the Norwegian mountain peaks, so why not another Brit?

Great video..and great shots of the puffins. I’ve seen them in Alaska but never saw them in Norway when I was there a couple years ago ( Lofoten.) Nor Scotland this year. And some great drone footage ..Just curious what telephoto lens and camera you used?
Thank you! They are beautiful creatures. I was using a Sony A7Siii with a Tamron 70-180 f/2.8 lens. Not the greatest telephoto lens, but pretty good for the price!

Nice video. If I am able to visit Norway again I want to see the puffins. Your problem was most likely electrolytes, sodium and/or potassium. I nearly died from potassium deficiency. Take a salty snack and banana on a hike. Or tomato (or V8) juice. Or an electrolyte drink or supplement to add to water. Water alone is not enough when hiking.

Thanks so much! I’m using the Mavic 2 Pro drone. The black backpack is the McKinnon Camera Pack by Nomatic. I believe I have the 35L size. Good for a carry on bag if your flying. There’s a smaller size available as well.

Well done, Seth, loved the video and your story telling skills. Very enjoyable. You know, being a born and bred Norwegian I take great joy in so many coming to our humble corner of the world to hike and gp bikepacking and what not. The scenery here is quite unique and though you portray it with excellence in this video, I think it's fair to say that you're not done coming here. Not quite yet 🙂There is still a lot to see and experience, like going up north to Lofoten and Senja. The wow-factor up there is as prominent as it's been on the trips you've done so far. Some will say it's even more so. I'm not trying to steal your audience or promote other channels, but if you wanna see some of the stuff on offer I can think of no better place than to check out #MatthewNorway. He's bikepacked all over Norway for years and his videoes I'm sure will give you a fair few tips on where to go for world class views :🙂Keep it up, Sir, you're doing great. Greetings from Norway. Great film in every way! But for me and many others, this "normal" to us. Therefore, most of the views here, combined with the music, becomes over exaggerated. Moreover, many this sites are tourist places and more or less known places. How about doing some "not so mainstream" hikes next time to really challenge yourself?💪.

Maybe you should check the official name of the mountain hike you ended your video with.
For the rest of us is the name Besseggen ....not Bessengen. It is more than 40 years since I did that hike. At that time I described it as that my grandma could easily do that hike.

You just missed the "Besseggen" .... you did not go over it... (sorry)
Besseggen is just a small part off the route and you just walk a detour around it....
Besseggen is from bessvatne(lake,vest point ) and about 0-400m to the east
The name Besseggen is split in 2 parts and translate its the "Bess" is the place name
and "eggen" is the "edge" (knife edge) off the mountain, and you have steep cliffs on both sides.
At 35:24 , you can se the traile , "Besseggen" is from the rigth side on the picture ,to center picture.
(i have walk ther like 4 times, best is to take the ferry in the morning(is allways full, need to pre book 1week before) and walk back to the car.

No problem! Yup I know that is not allowed and I always try to be respectful of the rules. I did not fly my drone there. The drone shot I used was filmed by someone else years ago. I gave credit to them at the very end of the video. Not sure if they had permission or not, but I hope they did!
