    So my 2013 F-150 with 24000 miles started throwing check fuel filler door warning so I was blessed to locate your video and I did exactly what you recommended. It cleared the warning and engine light. Thank you so much for your expertise. God’s blessings on your life. Now I can inspect my truck. You are the MAN.🙏😊

    Dude! Thank you!!! 2015 Ford Explorer Sport. Got the "Check Fuel Fill Inlet" message after a fill up. I thought either my locking cap or that hinged door was bad. I removed the cap and used a pen to make sure the little door was working. After 2 days of driving (getting the "check inlet" message at every start-up) it finally threw a P0456 CEL. I found your video and did exactly what you said, then cleared the code. Hasn't come back in 2 fill-ups.

    Thanks so much for this info. I have a 2014 Edge and the filler cap is still recessed like the Fusion you show, not flush like the newer one. It looks clean and well-sealed at this point. I did notice a diagram inside the door that indicates to wait 5 seconds before pulling nozzle out after fill-up.
    I've already had the purge valve replaced in the last week and while the check engine light did not come on this time, it didn't want to start after filling today. Been driving it since October so I guess it just took time to show up, but the dealer records did indicate whoever owned it back in July 2014 brought it in for check engine light but they couldn't duplicate it.
    I'll wait the 5 sec next time and cross my fingers. Best example of "it ain't broke don't fix it." Stupid move Ford.

    I have a 2010 Fusion SE V6 with about 80K miles. Thank you for posting this! I've had this problem for over a year and a half where the engine light goes on and off due to evap leak. Dealer told me to push the nozzle in and out 4-5 times before filling and again when done filling. He also said, once the tank clicks full, don't add any more gas. I'm going to try this out!

      +scmasshole Check for trouble code p0457 or p0455 it is probably the vapor canister solenoid part #911-222. A local dealer in my area gave me the part number and told me how to put it in myself. The part in 2012 was about $60.00 I saved $200+ on labor. it took me about 30 minutes to put it in would have been less than 10 minutes, but I dropped one of the screws in my engine. If it is the SE V6 the part is on the top of the engine to the left of the battery. This worked for me I hope it works for you,

    My 09' Lincoln MKS had the check engine light that has to do with this fuel filler neck message appeared on dashboard. Lincoln Dealer tried to rip me off with $500 charge on the replacement of fuel pipe neck part without discussing the cost ahead of time. I told them to put the old part back in and follow the instruction of this video. So far my car has no check engine light appear since 2 weeks after I erased the code. Clutch3Pointer I used to work at O’Reilly Auto, I sold one to a lady who purchased a Ford Focus with “capless”. She thought her cap was missing. After I explained to her that it was a capless system she said she still wasn’t comfortable with it being open so I sold her a lock specifically designed for her model. They don’t twist on, you just stick it on and there’s a little tab that will hold on there. It comes with two keys so you can lock it if you want to. Most auto parts retailers should carry them but I sold one from O’Reilly..

The check engine light has been coming on with the fuel code and noticed that engine starts odd just after fueling. We will use this method to remove debris and plan to invest in a locking cap. Sadly this probably won't be recalled because it is not technically a "safety" issue.

  • @peterbellisario6904
    @peterbellisario6904 Před 5 lety +2

    my guess as to the reason for these gas caps is to not release gasoline vapors into the air. When a regular cap is opened, and you look at it from the side, you can see the vapors escaping. It is easier seen on slightly older cars without the little flapper valve.
    I remember back in the 70's, a large contributor to smog were these escaped gasses. On the engines in the sixties, there was the oil tube that stuck up from the engine that was covered by a push on cap. In the 70's PCV systems were developed to reduce the escaping vapors that were in the crankcase.
    btw - screw caps do go bad as well. They need to be replaced at around $10-15 each. With the new design, you get to do some in & out for free!!

    Mine has done this for several years. Sometimes just getting a message to check filler cap or the P0442 DTC. For a while, it was random and I would clean out the filler neck as you described. For the DTC, I would just clear it myself (i have a decent scan tool). But after a while, it got too persistent and the code would return within minutes. Ford has issued a recall on this where they will check the system and replace the Evap Canister if needed. They will also update the PCM software. Just got this done and the code has not returned.

    I have a 2013 mustang V6 I got this issue with the check engine light. The scanner was showing EVAP leak I kept on clearing the code then then recently the on-board computer showed to check fule cap. I guess this is the cause of it as I live in qatar and it's quite dusty over her and there is now self service filling. Thanks for the video 👏🏻

      The car comes with a special funnel, in case you have to fill with a gas can. If the bad guys have that funnel, then they could get the gas out too. I filled up the tank the night before FULL. The next day, I get ready to take my road trip, and the tank is half empty. Also, every time I get gas, I reset the "trip", so it's at zero, so if anyone drove the car, it would have a reading, other than zero. How would YOU explain the missing half tank of gas? Nobody else has access to my keys.

    I have a 2011 Ford Escape, bought with 30K miles, under New car warranty AND purchased High End Extended warranty due to being single 57 year old grand mother..don't get me wrong, my dad raised 3 girls, taught all of us basic car care, change tires, check oil, etc...so I am NOT a DUMB BLOND!! My fill inlet light has came on for the third time in last 2 months. first time, took to dealership, they unplugged battery and it reset the light. Second time was last week, forgot to get my son to unplug battery and reset - so CHECK engine light came on during short road trip. Called dealership, took car to them next day. They did same thing, vented it, unplugged battery, etc. Went fine till Monday when I put gas in again, the light came on again. Called dealership back, told them it was on again. checked both warranties, not covered on EITHER one..Also during conversation with SERVICE MANAGER who also has an Escape, NO ONE likes the NO GAS CAP GAS CAP...can put anything down it, etc...alluded to the fact that Ford was beginning to get lots of complaints about this and said expected there would be a recall. In the mean time.....not covered under warranties and to replace fill line would be $485.00!!!! REALLY!!!!!!....so I called dealership back, spoke to warranty rep who also told me not covered under warranties, and he has a ESCAPE also and expressed same concerns as I have. THE BIG PICTURE---he told me about THIS youtube site and what to do to fix the issue. I asked him if that was the case, why did the service dept tell me it needed to be replaced...he said their job is to make money!!!!!
    SOOOOOOOOOOOO.......thank GOD my father taught me a few things, thank GOD I am a well informed WOMAN and I didn't fall for the $485.fix.

      Don’t blame Ford for this ridiculous idea. Ford didn’t introduce cap-less filler tubes for its customers’ convenience. It is our over-reaching governments who regulated them into being. Fuel in a vehicle’s tank and fuel lines will evaporate over time, releasing gas vapors to the atmosphere. Vapors also escape when you re-fuel your tank, as well (we’ve all smelled that, it’s the reason we don’t strike a match within 25’!). So the geniuses at the EPA and other tree-huggers lobbied big government to act. They did so by regulating that those emissions be reduced or eliminated. That is why evaporative emission control (EVAP) systems are now common in all new vehicles. Big Brother decided this is what’s best for you, not Ford.
