I find it both hilarious and heart warming how you store your stuff. I am in an urban environment but I have been gradually switching over all my storage to organised, pest free, water tight containers. Its easy to move, reliable to store and you know what you have.
You should look into buying jet A instead of kerosene. It’s cheaper, go to Airnav and look at your local airports. It normally runs $5-8 a gallon for non-bulk purchase. It’s basically ultra filtered kerosene.
You should do a video on repairing the brakes on the forklift. I think as much as you use it, it would be beneficial. It’s really very easy to do. Thank you again for the continued value you keep providing in your videos.
Once again another nice video chopped full of useful info and tips (Long time subscriber ). Hope you and Mrs. “W” enjoy the new homestead! Please keep up filming the great videos and posting them on CZcams.
Could you use the 4ft pallet racks as frames for outbuildings? Just set up the racks, then bolt some plywood on the outside of them and add a roof? Maybe use that for the gas and diesel storage?
"we sent it off for a full service", now for anyone who just expected the answer: there you go. For everyone actually interested in W's new workshop/garage, you're going to watch the whole video anyway.

I’m the same with glasses, I find it really disappointing that my 60 yr old body (especially eyes and knees) can’t keep up with what I still feel is my 30 yr old brain.
I get so fed up with the glasses thing that I keep multiple cheap store reading glasses all over the place, a pair in my tool box, pair in my truck, in my coat, in my store, ..... in my toilet 😁
@@simonmorris8651 Ever thought about those elastic bands you can pull over the end of your glasses' ear supports? They transform your glasses into a necklace if you don't need them. And losing them that way would be quite hard.
I use chalk markers. They work great.
I know this is an old video, but I figured I'd say something about the sponsor, Bespoke Post. I had their boxes from Oct. '20- April '21. First off, the quality of the stuff I got, wasn't by any means, bad. I also liked that I could text with Customer Service, and they were fairly quick and to the point, the few times I did deal with them...
However, it always felt lacking. My first big disappointment was with the Barebones hatchet I added to a box. $60 for a hatchet, that honestly has a hard time putting up with just menial yard work, in a suburban home, and a head that seemingly never wants to stay snug, and a handle that is just too thin. Was it a bad item? Not really. Did it feel like it was worth $60? Not really.
Which is kind of how I felt about the boxes I received, in general. Everything felt 'meh'. I never received any box as nice as seen in this video, cause obviously, I wasn't sponsored, but this kind of gives a false perception of what you get in a single box. Point is, Bespoke isn't bad, but I kind of felt like I was shopping in a hipster store; stuff that looks cool, but is overpriced and meh in quality.
ALL of these subscription services are just a way of offloading surplus junk. It blows my mind that people pay to get random stuff in the mail.
Thanks for genuine review

The way Sweetloaf waited at the door because she knew you don't go in the shop without shoes was cute but also shows how well she listens.

Hey Cody, really appreciate your videos! Through them, we get to see your work ethic, love for your family and friends. I can only speak for myslef, but I find myself thankful and encouraged to step up to the plate to work and love better. Many blessings in Christ, Cody!
Okay so Cody is the reason that Wavian is always out of stock with their jerry cans lmao
I just buy the round old metal gas cans at garage sales. Most are galvanized and in good condition inside if they were treated good. Way cheaper than wavian but harder to store round cans.
Another great video! Thank you for sharing your adventures with your family! Was feeling nostalgic the other day and went back to look at some of your first videos, alot of them seemed to no longer be there. Nice view of the mountain! Thanks again for sharing!
I've scheduled today for organizing our winter food supplies, so this was exactly the motivational kick I needed to start the day! I just love an orderly, tidy storage system!
Cody, I'm far from being a safety Sally but it's not a good idea to store all of that fuel inside your shop. I would check with your insurance provider to see if you would even be covered in the event of a fire. Same goes for your outside diesel and gas storage. I would set up a fueling area safe distance from your building. Look at getting one of those 8×8 shipping containers and place it a safe distance from your fueling station and keep your 5 gallon cans in it. That way you have 2 different locations for emergency fuel and in case of an accidental fire you won't loose all of it or any of your buildings and equipment
Also those cans aren't really fume save so you can create a easy expanding atmosphere if you know what I mean.
Never ask an insurance provider such questions or you're inviting trouble. These are government approved gasoline containers stored in a shop - it will be fine. Storing it in a shipping container will both age the fuel faster due to heat and be a huge pain. People seem to think gasoline will burst into flames spontaneously - it's actually a very picky fuel and only burns in a narrow range of fuel air mixture. Even if one of those containers broke a weld and leaked all 5 gallons onto the floor overnight there would be basically no fire risk. What he is doing in the video is the right way to do it.
Man there is a cbc safety video where fuel was stored in a shipping container and it blew up because of the fuel and killed a couple people
Jack and Cody building a fuel shed or converting a shipping container would be a great series
@@knurlgnar24 I cant speak for his insurance policy. However mine has a max amount I'm allowed to store in my shop.

Your constant homestead developments are inspiring! Your wonderful family cameos are a great bonus too!
I remember staying on a farm in Australia that had a coal-fired stove to heat things up, and a kerosene fridge to cool 'em back down.
Fun times.
How does a kerosene fridge work???
Google is the answer. In short, it works the same way as any other fridge, ie the evaporation of a liquid. The energy used to evaporate the liquid is provided by burning the kero ( on a circular wick). A condensor returns the vapour to a liquid, again.
@@alexandermenzies9954 use to have a domestic gas powered fridge back in the day.....

I love the lantern tip. I've used a version of that with a gallon plastic milk jug as an anchor lantern on my sailboat. I could always discern my vessel from others in a crowded anchorage. The textured plastic on the milk jug worked well to bounce the light around and illuminate. Same concept as the Lucie Light, but the milk jug works really well for that. I was using a strip of 12 volt led's dropped inside the jug.

Thank you my friend! I have to build shelves in my tiny home, and have been vacillating about the size of them. You helped me to make up my mind.
Wow, kerosene is expensive over there!
We pay about $4 a gallon in Tokyo, it is still used a lot for heat here.
I use a similar (not as nice) as the storage containers for tools etc that travel to job sites. One thing that I do is take a can of spray paint and spray some color on the box and the lid.
If you label the lids then they get mixed up onto the wrong box it's a problem. The added benefit is I can say to someone "Grabe the box with the red paint on it" or "Grab the box with the blue and green stripes" this really helps.
Cheers!
I've always enjoyed your comments over the years. Could you tell me what you do in Japan?

Spot on about the forklift and sturdy shelving. It is tempting to build wood shelves but you just can't beat the capacity of pallet racking for its size. Great video.
The great thing about your new place is I can watch the journey and transformation from the very beginning
I would place a static discharge system on your metal shelves for your fuel containers. One starts leaking and you get a discharge from it being dry and wearing wool clothes, you could lose everything. Stay safe!

For people at home I can't stress the importance of safe water storage.
When storing small gas motors, the best practice by far, is to turn the fuel off at the tank and allow the carburetor to run dry.
I might have missed it, but I have yet to see the lumberjack corner, that was always my favorite part of the old shop, seeing all the equipment hanging out, waiting to make trees into firewood or lumber!

It's 2 boxes. "Grounds" and "forge" boxes. So it'd be at least ~$94 for what he showed with shipping, not $45. I looked into it cause it seemed like an amazing deal and was going to sign up.
This might be a stupid question, but why have you loaded the fuel with the handles towards the wall, I would've thought you'd want those accessable, not the spout?
i do it this way because the cans fit better on my shelf. if i pit the spouts in first, then the spout hits the wall behind the shelf and the handle sticks out too far.
That n with a battery pump, just pump out small amounts as needed.

Storing all that fuel in a room a with a large air compressor is incredibly dangerous. They specifically warn about this on compressor licensing tests.
Go sit on your head,
@@wranglerstar I love your videos and appreciate every video you share with us. Please do a quick google search on this one. Mechanics get killed like this. The compressor can suck in fuel vapor and compress it in the tank. If you need to keep the compressor in that room, you can make it safe by elevating it since fuel vapor is heavier than air. I almost never comment on videos. I commented on this one because I care about human beings and this honestly scared me. Sorry if I offended you.

Fork Lift Tip!
We use our forklift for maybe 5 minutes once a week, but when we need it, we really need it.
Our maintenance company found our oil was always milky (water logged) and recommended when we start it, we let it warm all the way up to combat the condensation that builds inside a cold motor.
Ever since we started letting it run for at least 10 mins after we use it, we have not had an issue.
Hey Cody, we recently had a fire in our home and it forced us to take a hard look at our collection.
