I had some old "outdated" hydrogen peroxide under the bathroom sink. Not needing it anymore I dumped half the bottle down the toilet with the intention of getting rid of it. Well, the next day some nasty hardened sub water-line stains in the toilet that I had tried many times unsuccessfully to remove had simply disappeared.
Not relevant to the topic, but H2O2, hydrogen peroxide, takes blood out of most fabrics. No stain or residue. Most women know that. We used gallons of it in the ER where I worked for over 20 years. It is wonderful at removing so many stains etc and isn’t expensive nor as environmentally nasty as commercial toilet cleaners. Haven’t used them in ages! Great stuff.
It removes baby formula as well.
Thanks for this. I never knew that!
Best to use it when the stain is fresh and hasn't been laundered yet! If you can soak it a bit in cool water after the stain happens, even better!
@@dracofirex Since most of the blood I removed from clothing with H2O2 was acquired at work … ER nurse … it was almost always fresh. On a lab coat or uniform, both supplied by the hospital. Never wore my own uniforms. We only got one lab coat/week, so we’d order the hydrogen peroxide in huge volumes and went through what added up to gallons in a year! 🇨🇦🖖🏻🇨🇦
@@Momcat_maggiefelinefan Wow! Yeah I'll bet!
Smart Health workers know about hydrogen peroxide works on blood stains. My dentist advise me not to buy expensive bottles of mouthwash (to much alcohol) use water and couple of drops of hydrogen peroxide (never swallow), mix according to your liking because you might swallow a little on your throat and you will not like it at all. You can also use denture cleaner on your toilet bowl. Have a clean suave day EVERYONE. Thanks for all the tips and sharing.
Dish scrubbing brush $1.88 works much better and faster. It has a triangle brush shape with short handle that's a breeze to use with any toilet.
I was just about to look up what to do about that but while I was checking for solutions to a different problem, I found your video! Thanks now I can fix both problems in my bathroom
Another tip if you're using those bleach disks in your tank... don't clean your bowl with ammonia based cleaner (like "The Works" brand). It basically creates gas used in WWI. Learned this the hard way. Had to step outside for 15 min to catch my breath.
I did the bleach and ammonia thing to sanitize my mop. It started smoking and my husband was yelling at me! Luckily it was outside in the carport.
When I worked in the ER a gent came into the department in critical condition. Mixed toilet bowl cleaner and Javex bleach in the bowl. Made the greenish-yellow chlorine gas the Germans used on allied forces in WW1. He survived but had damaged his lungs. Not sure what his recovery was like. Can’t follow their recovery after they’ve been admitted to the ICU
Got gased in basic training by a couple guys who didn’t obey the direction to not mix. Dumped a big jug of each in a mop bucket to clean the mess hall.
Darwin, let it work out
don't use tablets in your tank! it will mess wp your fill and/or float valve. learned this the hard way. ;)
I love the straight, short to the point vids! That's what I'm trying to do (when I can).
I love the stuff!! I use it to clean my floors, certain jewelry, stains, etc. Works great, in my toilet bowls, as well! Great video!
Sandra, i use it in my waterpik for oral care and add some to a bath with epsom salt. Do you know if it cleans sterling silver jewelry?
@@gypsygirl9 Have you ever tried using toothpaste for your silver? That is all I ever use for silver jewelry! Works amazingly well, just glop some toothpaste onto the silver and I rub it around with my fingers and let it sit a minute or two, then wipe with clean cloth (see what comes off!) then quick rinse and dry! 🤗
If you’re going to use Hydrogen Peroxide in a toilet like this, make sure that there are NO OTHER cleaning chemicals already being used inside of it.
😂😆😝😆😆😂 shut up!
2nd comment, Come on Man, where's your Sense of adventure!
@@richhauxwell7848 It got Chlorinated.... 😉🤣
Great toilet advice. Had a patient who added Javex bleach and toilet bowl cleaner into his toilet. Created chlorine gas and nearly offed himself! The things you have to deal with in the ER! He survived but had respiratory issues the rest of his days … like the gas attack victims in WW 1. 🇨🇦🖖🏻🇨🇦
Unfortunately she was using "solution of hydrogen peroxide "
And it's only what 3% hydrogen peroxide and the rest just water..
Had it been industrial or lab strength, now that would have been a video!
Thanks, I can't wait to try this.
Thanks I will have to try this. I did try it. The process helped but did not eliminate everything
Thank you for sharing Andrea. Thank you for letting me know vinegar eats the rubber away in the tank.
Only if you leave it in there & have too much!
Will have to try this! Thanks!
Brilliant hack hydrogen peroxide has multiple uses around the home . I even use to clean and sterilise my bbq 👌👌
I brush my teeth with peroxide. since I was a child. The dentist always told me I was a flawless victory with my smile. Perfect clean and white
Exactly how do you do the peroxide with your toothbrushing?
@sl4983 hi hope all is well ☺️ so I purchase peroxide and the yellow listerine I put both half and half in a cup to gargle my throat and swoosh my gums brush with toothpaste 1st than gargle with the peroxide mix. At 1st you may not like it but I love it and it keeps your mouth health at 100 percent
What ever you do don't use any chlorine products in the tank of the toilet! The bowl is fine but not the tank! That chlorine slowly eats at the rubber washers causing the tank to leak! I did that and every 3 months or so I had to replace all the rubber washers!
I use it also in my bathroom sinks down the drain, leave about 1 minute and then open the faucet I can hear bubbles fissiles 2:46 before inlet the water run and it helps keep buildup since we really can’t wash or scrub down there. It works great
Thank you for the info😃
Thank you for the tip.
I use it in a spray bottle on my pillows & mattress it removes any & all stains
Will it work on carpet?
Hopefully it's a dark colored bottle otherwise the peroxide breaks down and isn't as good any more. Or you could do what she did and just put a spray pump inside the bottle itself. Just a tip
Great tip, thanks 😊

I just recently subscribed to you and love all the excellent tips you share. Thanks

Good to know. Thanks for sharing.
So how would you go about cleaning the line to your fridge and ice maker?
White spray paint in light coats
Vinegar. Not a cleaning one, but a cooking one. Vinegar works well on hard water. Once every five years or so, you have to undo the water connection and fill the hose with vinegar. A plastic bag and gravity works. Cycle the ice maker to run the vinegar through. I find that this quiets noisy icemakers. Mine started sounding like a parrot. A valve gets hard water buildup.
What strength percentage do you use? Some are weak, around 30% or stronger, around 80%.
Thank you.
The stronger the better 👍
Great cleaning hack , always have hydrogen peroxide in the house 👌👌👌
Linda Cares-- to you happen to live in FL with the Pluris water?
👍It worked perfect. Thank you.
You're welcome!
I'll try this.
Outstanding video and presentation.
Thank you kindly!
I just love your videos! Very helpful
Glad you like them!
Great idea Thank you so much!!! I always have hydrogen peroxide in the house but now I need more to clean my toilets. We have city water and it is terrible I always have pink & black mold under my faucets (I use rubbing alcohol for those) But I pay a lot of money every month for water and it should be clean water but it’s the opposite! Cleaning coffee pots andI have no clue what is growing in the water hoses to my fridge & ice maker the thought of it drives me crazy!!!!
Linda - it's none of my business really but just curious, do you live in Florida?
Linda sounds like Pluris Water
in East Orlando Wedgefield FL 😠😡
@@thereserivera7691 Right?? Geez I'm in Conway and it ain't much better. Not to that degree like Wedgefield but still city water. Ugh

Going to try that
First thing is to ALWAYS set your toilet lid on the floor, always!!! I have seen hundreds that people accidently break

thank you.
What a great idea to turn the peroxide bottle into a spray bottle. Also, I didn't know that peroxide is a good stain removal on fabric. I am definitely going to try it on stubborn stains.
The peroxide breaks down the protein in some organic stains like blood or similar. I love it
Great for pet stains on carpet!
You can buy peroxide with the sprayer already attached...
In the word's of Foghorn Leghorn...watch it fizzzzzzz. It's a good tip, the blue stuff is mostly chlorine which is not good for the parts in your tank. If you live in the city most tap water has more chlorine in it than your pool.... I've tested it ....
Peroxide is already pretty watered down from the bottle, so if you really want this to work the only way is to be sure it contacts the slimy, grimy, stained surfaces at full strength. That means draining all the water.
Or, you could determine the ratio, then add the necessary %, of 35% hydrogen peroxide.
Wonder if a bottle of CLR would work??
I don't use any tablets to clean our toilet because we have pets and if someone fails to close the toilet, out pets could try to drink. I clean as needed.
I am going to try this right now! T u!
Its nice and clean, for me to leave an upper decker in.
is this safe for septic tanks? need to know before use . . if not, best item/s to use for a septic system
No.
Peroxide at 3% will not be a problem . . . the small amount you're actually using will quickly be consumed by the organic crud in the septic system.
@@jpdemer5 thanks!
Do you have to use a brush? I wonder if it would work somewhat without even scrubbing it.....I really dont want to scrub. 🙂
Thank you so much 😊

Going to try this on the stained bowl in the basement bath. Does anyone know if peroxide loses efficacy? I have a really old bottle of it.
I imagine if it's been sealed and in a cool place the whole time you should be fine. If not, a bottle of peroxide costs you no more than $1.50 or so at Walmart.
Someone told me that even if the bottle of H2O2 has not been opened, it still deteriorates after a year or so.
Pour some onto a slice of raw potato. If it fizzes, it's good. If it doesn't, it's gone bad. ("Bad" is relative: the peroxide literally turns into water.)
The inside of my tank is brown!! 🤯 so I just dumped some hydrogen peroxide into the tank. Not sure how long to let it sit before I go in with a brush? Thank you for this tip. The tank is something we just don’t think about as often.
Any results?
@kosmosbjm Would you mind sharing your results?
His house exploded.
@@n.s.3410 Yeah.....learned the hard way not to use hydrogen perchlorate instead...
If the toilet tank is brown that could be iron bacteria, and you’d need to get a professional to get your water system cleaned and filtered. There’s options including bleach, ozone or hydrogen peroxide. I’d avoid the bleach option, as ozone and hydrogen peroxide are much healthier. Hydrogen peroxide even kills mold, whereas bleach can actually cause more problems with mold. And bleach is toxic to people.
Very interesting video
Love Hydrogen Peroxide, Andrea !!! Joan Bates ❤ ❤ ❤
Hi. Thanks
Flush n Sparkle is the best to keep bowl clean. It puts the chlorine in the bowl only. So it does not deteriorate anything in the tank. Keeps my bowl clean... you can buy 1 inch chlorine tablets to replace them, rather than a new cartridge.
H2O2 is amazing
Does this work well on rust and lime from well water?
Yes 🙌
How about CLR ?
How do you clean the inside of the toilet bowl? I have rust stains from well water on the sides of the toilet bowl and rim. How do I clean this with hydrogen peroxide?
I saw she put a sprayer straight on the bottle and said she sprayed it under the rim to get to the holes. You could probably dump it in the bowl as welln but it will come down fro. the tank when you flush.
Peroxide doesn't work for me with our well for deep cleaning the works is the only thing that actually works for our well water cleaning..... but ventilate and don't clean with windex or anything at the same time. I have to use the toilet bowl works for my shower surrounds as well. For tougher stains a magic eraser as well and also wear gloves when using the works.
Iron out works great for rust 👍
Try a little bit of baking soda then rinse

I used this on my cream colored carpet to take out blood. I pour some on straight. As soon as I poured it on the blood dissapeared.
Do you have this problem often?
Nope just the one and only time. A friend was visiting and had a bad bloody nose...why what were u thinking? LOL

Use a larger long handle brush, otherwise, excellent!
And GLOVES!
Those drop in tablets ruin the rubber seal from the tank to the toliet, later causing problems then its worth.
I really do not know why companies still sell those.
And you also need to be careful with H2O2 and rubber seals as well, as it can also dissolve that.
I'll get right to that; like next Tuesday or Friday or maybe even Wednesday.
😂😂😂😂
some chicken-raising friends of mine said they use an AGRICULTURAL-GRADE h2o2, of a higher-concentration. they pour it into disposable potato-salad tubs (haaa), and set it where the flock has to walk through the tubs. it helps sanitize the hen's feet! Cool, huh? :-)

I'm sure Google has a few answers
Although the risk would be relatively small at the likely concentrations, should hydrogen peroxide mix with bleach in the bowl the reaction would be somewhat startling.
First science ever learned but, had to teach my kids.
3% peroxide gives 3% chlorine gas. Not pleasant.
We have a house cleaning service. Fixes many issues right up for us.
Thanks so much for sharing, very useful.

Does this really work?
I did this and my girl friend asked me if I did something to her tooth brush!
Many guys want something to break down their annoying girlfriend's flapper, so this is good advice!
What about Citric Acid?
How long do I let it sit inside a stained bowl before going in with a brush?
I would say maybe 30 mins..? That’s just a guess for the 1st cleaning. Then depending on how bad the stain is, I’d try to leave it as long as I could, using less sitting time for the daily/weekly cleanings.

Do you have any tips for cleaning the mineral deposits in the toilet tank? Even when I turn off the water valve to toilet and flush, the tanks doesn’t completely empty. Still has about 2” of water in there. Not just staining on the tank walls but have particles of minerals that have settled on the bottom and of course when stirred-up end up in the bowl and leave a mineral ring. Thoughts?
I would use a wet vacuum 👍
Pumice stone.
I saw on another video to put borax powder or vinegar in the tank and let them sit for a couple hours. Don't use them together. Then flush and the borax or vinegar will also clean out the holes under the rim of the toilet bowl.
I scrub them with the plastic handle of the cleaning brush .
@@AndreaJean, I got a wet vac and sucked out all that scummy water in the tank. Filled with vinegar for several hours and drained and scrubbed. Wish I could include a picture put don’t see away to do that in a reply. After also cleaning the bowl of the mineral deposit ring, it has not returned 👍
I love the drop-in sanitation products because it keeps me in work replacing the rubber seals destroyed by chlorine. Chlorine cuts the life of the toilet tank seals and refill mechanism from a decade or two down to maybe two or three years if you're lucky. I appreciate you don't want your kids eating a toilet cake, but honestly, there are better solutions to bathroom hygiene! Hydrogen peroxide, which is heavily diluted in the form shown, is a solution I personally use, although I typically turn off the water to the tank, drain and then douse liberally with the peroxide. As for the bowl, this should be cleaned regularly, including the spaces around the toilet if you have a man in the house!
