I like the “cozy horror!” The feeling of the uncanny in the vein of M.R. James is my favorite.

Although I love psychological horror (the realistic type that really gets under your skin), I am also a massive fan of the paranormal. I grew up reading the works of Poe and James, and to this day, I am still obsessed with their stories!
I thrive on a steady balance of horror. Psychological horror takes me to dark places, so I have accrued a massive stash of 'comfort horror', which tends to verge more on the paranormal.
If I struggle to sleep at night, I can always rely on comfort horror to save me!

I just enjoy horror. I like to feel a quick, unsafe feeling. Either the darkness under my bed of the unknown or walking fast from my car to the front door. It's exhilarating

True or fictional, I really love paranormal stories - especially "cosy horror"!

My only issue with 'true horror' is when the story is so incredibly obviously made up, because I can't focus on anything but how they could possibly think it sounded believable. And if they'd just put it out as fiction, itd probably be a pretty good story.

As much as I read/watch true crime, I need a break here and there. They are real events, and real people suffered. As a father myself I agree; some crimes just shake me to my core and I cannot listen to them.
Pure horror fiction is my favourite because of this.
Might be existential dread in Lovecraft, or a good King, Barker or Herbert book at night. Watching Evil Dead Rise last weekend in the cinema for example just gives a kick no other genre gives me personally. No real person ever suffered at the hands of Deadites and the Necronomicon in real life, so watching people get torn apart comes with a 'moral-free grotesque high'... Or at least I hope they don't exist!

Tell me beforehand & I can decide whether to watch or not. On days when the real news has been particularly disturbing it isn't possible to hear about true horror if it involves humans hurting things. Fiction's great because some pieces are just so well written one marvels at the skill & artistry of an author being able to chill your blood with words alone. Example: The Mezzotint by M. R. James. So produce on, Michael. I trust you.

Mixture. If a horror author could mix reality with fantasy like Gabriel Garcia Marquez and unsettle like Cormac McCarthy I'd pay handsomely to see that.

When I thought it wasnt real I preferred fiction but now I can only read the truth, but lots of fiction is actually real cause people can't handle the truth

Thanks, Melissa. Folklore and legends fascinate me. I always remember a teacher in high school telling me an historical account of a commander during a battle being 'struck down by the hand of God'. He believed, going by the description, that the man had been struck by lightning and that was how it was interpreted. I love how even the most fantastical stories can have their beginnings in an event that acutally took place. Of course, I always like to leave the door open for the possibility of something genuinely paranormal as well ;)

True to me has enough of possible true events to make it more enjoyable to watch. Slasher, body count movies aren't enjoyable as they are predictable and boring for me personally. The Conjuring series is enjoyable as I knew base stories albeit being loose and free with events and additions for dramatic effects. Now in reading horror I prefer fiction as my imagination can conjure up vistas and vivid imaginings. Dang that was wordy. Lol
