Haircuts can be a huge nightmare. I never thought Gabe would be able to get past his fear and anxiety. After years of practice Gabe has now been able to sit through an entire haircut and seem happy. He was smiling almost the whole time he was having his hair cut by Lilly!

First off, you’ve found an awesome stylist! She’s so good with him. ❤. That was an awesome job by Gabe. I could tell how hard he was working to be still and tolerate it at times. I’m sure it hasn’t always been this “easy” but he’s absolutely killing it! He’s such an amazing guy.

It's okay Gabe!. No one is trying to hurt you I promise!. We all need to get a haircut sometimes. The noise can sound scary sometimes. But these clippers are designed to cut hair, not the person. I am just so impressed with his mom.Finding a community that supports her son-in his autistic journey.This is amazing kudos to he's amazing music.Touch those are his tools of communication even though he's limited in other areas and it's amazing to see how he interacts with the world around him. I think Gabe was super ticklish today. His smile is so warming. Then he got focused and serious but still managed to tolerate it. Good job by both the hair stylist and Gabe!

He just has sensory issues and would rather not have people with sharp objects or loud buzzing machines going anywhere near his face.
Awesome this hair stylist really knows how to work with people that have autism she's very patient and reassuring.
He's done so amazing! So far haircuts have been the most difficult for my 5year old autistic son. I hope one day they will be as peaceful as this one. Way to go Gabe!

Gabe looked like he knew exactly what he was doing. The smile made it look like he was just messing with her.
Watching your teenage son gives me tremendous hope. I have a 4 year old autistic non-verbal and a 16 year old autistic with severe social anxiety. My 4 year old just 3 weeks ago allowed me to cut his hair hair and I have to be really fast and it took 3 of us to distract him enough to not leave him looking funky 😊. With him it is so bad that we can't keep clothes on him. We got him to keep it on when we are out and about, but the moment he gets home we find his trail of clothes on the floor. I struggle to imagine him as a teenager when I can't even potty train him. Thank you for the little hope.

Perhaps he could soon take up the camera and film himself. When he wants to. Otherwise it may be upsetting and awkward with someone else filming you all the time

Gabe is such a handsome young man so matter how his hair is cut he will look great. He did so well. I did like the longer hair but now he looks so grown up.

I have a nephew by marriage who's severely autistic, VERY sensitive and non verbal, who will be 30 in December. He will only allow ME to cut his hair. LOL, and ONLY with scissors, period!!
I've been in his life since him and his twin sister were born.
So I understand how haircuts can be.

My first thought seeing him is: Earplugs!
As an adult I never go to hairdressers but trim my hair myself, but always wear earplugs because I can't stand the sound of hair clippers next to my ears.
In case Gabe has any auditory sensibility, that could be something to try.
But yeah hair salons have a lot of challenges. Sounds, various smells and chemicals sprayed in the air: not for me. Touch is nice for me and I see that it is for Gabe as well there. Touching the face tho is not, I can totally relate to 8:40 😆

I have an autistic son and granddaughter and there a severe differences in them than my other children and we try to keep them as normal as the other kids but some things just need extra attention and balance

Respectfully asking for education. If haircuts are hard or traumatic why not let him have long hair? His hair looks really good long and it acceptable and common for men to have long hair.

I agree maybe he wants long hair but can’t express it I’ve suggested this before. It should be his choice and nobody else’s
it could cause sensory issues too, the hair constantly brushing his ears or neck.
Longer hair is harder to groom, more effort to wash and dry, and also gets tangled very easily. If haircuts are difficult, imagine how difficult combing out knots would be.

It seems that every time he gets a haircut it’s someone new. It would seem that you would want to bring him to the same person every time.
Maybe whichever one that he had a good experience with.
Maybe I am wrong but just my thoughts.
He looks good with both long and shorter hair.
My son said the clippers feel like needles 😢 we finally found a barber that uses scissors and guides the clippers with those rather than directly on his skin.

🥰He's doing great, my son has sotos syndrome, unfortunately we can only cut our own hair at home, he's just too scared of all the loud noises
My son has non verbal Autism he's 17, and he's finally getting haircuts, but they are not able to use clippers yet

I have a son who is 5 with Autism. I have a question if you could help or advise. How was going to the dentist or brushing teeth?? 🪥 Also Gabe is so handsome and looks absolutely wonderful with his new haircut! I have to cut Sam’s hair and the struggle is real!!
It’s not easy! We do help him, but he makes it hard!

I think gabe wanted to cut his own hair 😂 he liked the feeling of the clippers in his hand and smiled. And we never see if hes happy with his hair cut afterwards.

My partner and I also have a child VERY much like Gabe. I'd love to chat, but I do have to say I'd like to see some REAL videos because this rainbows and sparkles stuff is just not real life.... lol! My child has very long hair that is actually beautiful, but we did try to cut it. It was like getting my butt whooped by and octopus. and yes... we TALK... we practice.... etc...
But you'd be surprised how similar our boys are...

I always feel sad for him when Gabe gets haircuts. He has no choice and the hair is parted on the side like a tiny little boy. I see the same on the city bus with handicapped adults, at the mercy of their aging parents & mediocre to bad haircuts. For the rest of their lives.
