This song at Daryl's house performed by CeeLo Green was fabulous. All the talent at Daryl's house is top notch. Please play some of it. Love your station guys
INDEED! They're similar to studio recordings but not as formal & on video. You can tell they're just all there having an awesome time Rockin out!!
I got turned on to Daryl’s House watching Chod Wilburn’s reaction channel.. became a big fan. I hope these guys find those videos…
That performance was magic! Man, I would love to be a guest at Daryl's house when he's having a live music day!
Yes! That’s is an excellent video. Thanks Mark.
Live at Daryl's is the best.
Alot of people thought this song was about a relationship, but it's about the music business and how artists get used by recording labels
So, it was about a relationship... Every interaction in our lives is a relationship and it is REAL hard to feel bad for people that desire to perform and be famous the world over and have zero skin in the hundreds of millions of dollars it costs to produce, promote and pay the thousands and thousands and thousands people employed behind the scenes. Am I protecting the 95% of the recording industry sharks, not even close. This is a very symbiotic relationship and one without the other just leaves us with cr*p...
I didn't know that. I love music trivia!
you got the body, now you want my Soul. Don't even think about it, say no go
Doesn't the song Barracuda by Heart have the same theme as this song?
Now that I know this, I will listen with a different frame of reference.
Charles DeChant on saxophone. "I Can't Go for That (No Can Do)" is one of fourteen Hall & Oates songs that have been played on the radio over one million times, according to BMI.
Guys react to Sara Smile by Hall & Oates. You’ll be blown away by this one!
Sarah Smile used to depress me, because I had a huge crush on someone that wouldn't have anything to do with me.
By senior year of HS, we were friends, so all has been well ever since with my hearing this.
@@twenty3enigma yes I can see how If you have feelings for someone that song can make you feel sad but I’m glad you’re past that & everything is ok.
Awesome song! Hall's & Oats were hot with cool vibes....
Halls & Oates "Sarah Smile" emotes a sense of well being, love and soothing vibes.
YES!! 👍🏻😃❣️
Daryl Hall did a version of this song with Cee Lo Green a few years ago on his channel 'Daryl's House'.
A very cool rendition.
Word!!!! That’s an awesome version!!!!
I was going to mention that they would absolutely love the Daryl's House CeeLo Green video.
cee lo on that chorus was smooth.
This would make an awesome reaction video.
Yes, you should react to that one. It’s fire!
Your slogan "Give The People What They Want" - The O'Jays have a song named that
The Ojay's are a group Jay& Amber should check out, and the Ojays also did an episode of Live At Darryl's House!
They need to Hear The O’Jays’, For The Love Of Money. It was ridiculously popular. Another message song.
One of the coolest bass lines ever. You should try "Sunrise" by Simply Red which heavily samples I Can't Go For That.
yep!!A lot of time I do not like when someone samples songs but Simply Red did a great job with this. Love both version...Gorgeous songs
Yes, what they said!
Now you know where Michael Jackson got the bass line for Billy Jean. :-)
The bassist Tom “T-Bone” Wolk dropped some unforgettable bass lines. Maneater is his tour de force. He carries that song along with that epic saxophone during the bridge.
That was really well done...Mick Hucknell did the original justice
Daryl Hall is one of the smoothest voices in R&B/soul. Listen to their song "Sarah Smile" sometimes. What a great song. And try to watch some installments of live at Daryl's House where they have both older and new groups come in and do their songs in studio with Daryl's musicians (including that sax player).
Also listen to Jimmy Wayne sing Sarah Smile at Daryl's house.it is an amazing cover.❤❤
@@LisafromFl Rumer also has a great cover of Sara Smile on Live At Darly's House
@@glennelfmann3143 haven't heard that one.I'll have to check it out..thanks!!
@@LisafromFl Her real name is Sarah Joyce and she said on the show that her dad used to sing it to her and you could tell by her performance that it meant a lot to her.
If yet to do so, check out John Oates solo work on CZcams. Vocally he’s incredible in his own right. I was floored when I heard him considering he has always been the secondary voice in Hall and Oates.
The sax player is Charlie DeChant. He's been with Hall and Oates forever
One of their best songs! Up next, Sara Smile. You will love it!
YES!! 👍🏻😃❣️😃👍🏻
you have to admit its funny that john and Daryl hated this song but were forced into it by the record company. That's why the 80s ENDED, HALL and OATES. Seems the 80s trashed everything.
Daryl currently has a show called Daryl’s House. He invites other artists and plays their music or his…so cool.
Great show!!
Thanks for mentioning "Live at Darryl's House"!!!!! A GREAT show; wonderful reissues of their songs with really interesting artists. ON CZcams??? Think it originally broadcast on A&E.
All these dudes did was write and perform hit after hit from the late 70’s through the 80’s. They had an epic run, no doubt.
They ain't done yet!
They wrote and recorded this song as a message to their record company, that was being difficult and insulting to them at the time.
You're right about that 80s synth sound. In spite of modern digital synths being able to sound like this, few musicians or producers think to try it.
Interesting. I love when musicians write songs with inner messages. The same with Heart, Barracuda was written by Ann and Nancy Wilson, based on their record company made up story about the sisters having incestuous relationship. They double downed and wrote the famous song.. Anyway, Hall and Oats were the best in the 80's for their great sound.. They had a lot of singles on the charts.
It seems like a lot of artists had problems with their record labels. George Michael and Heart come to mind.
@@kens32052 Rush was another band that had issues with their record label.
What exactly was it for which they could not go? I guess we'll never know. Whatever it is, it can't be good. Sounds like a deal with the pleased -to -meet- you- hope- u -guess my -name- guy. No can do. I concur. What a vibe. I think it's their best song. They have so many. Private Eyes also vibish. Thanks Robsquad.
Hollywood, I know your middle name, who inspires your fabled fools? That's my claim to fame. Jive Miguel etc. No can do.
So chill. These dudes ruled the '80s. Make sure to visit SAY IT ISN'T SO - my fave tune of theirs. In concert *chef's kiss*
70s musicians kicked ass in the eightys and ninties. of course hall and oats hated the song and soon they got out of the music biz.
@@kenperk9854 Daryl and John are far from out of the music biz. Daryl especially is still going Strong for many of us older people.
Live From Daryl's House is something y'all should check out. Daryl Hall invites his famous musician friends over to grub and jam.
Yeah! I love the version of this song with CeeLo Green!
"Somebody Like You" with Joe Walsh is great
Hell yeah! It's amazing. I love it.
@@kmach1000 Hell yeah in some ways I like that song that version better
Cee Lo Green appeared on Daryl's House and does this song. It is awesome!
Sara Smile..She’s Gone…Man eater…Rich Girl..and the list goes on and on…Can’t go wrong with Hall and Oates ✌️
Not really good songs for reacting to tho
This band is so great, grew up on them! Their music is awesome!
Rich Girl. 😎
One of the BEST H&O songs EVER. I saw them live around this time period and they were great.
Hall and Oates are the definition of aura
Watching the younger generation of today listen to the soundtrack of my Youth only reminds me of how lucky my generation really was with such a quality and Diversity of music. I mean could you all imagine no matter what station you turned on no matter what genre of music you turned on it was all solid gold.
Daryl Hall was born with absolutely perfect pitch, so much so that during the rehearsal sessions for the "We Are The World" video, Quincy Jones utilized Daryl's talents to sit off stage with headphones and fine tune the other participating celebrity singers, which can be seen on the outtake footage of those sessions.
The most successful duo in music history, the epitomy of blue-eyed soul!!!!!
"I Can't Go For That" was THE JAM at the end of 1981 into '82! #1 Pop, #1 Dance, #1 R&B! The soulful sax solos are by the very cool Charles DeChant. Play "I Can't Go For That" today at a Steppers' Party, in a skating rink or at a backyard barbecue, and everybody gets up and starts movin'!
I was 5 or 6. And yes, I remember hearing their music on car rides
It was funny watching Jay and Amber react to "We Are the World" for a 2nd time,, and when Daryl Hall came up, Jay said he didn't know who that was, but later in the video when they showed Daryl Hall standing next to John Oates, Jay's face lit up as if he finally recognized them.
Lol. I was thinking the same thing. He recognized john but the name wouldn't come to him.
Awesome song! This inspired Michael Jackson's bass line in "Billy Jean."
I was watching Summer of Soul that Questlove put together. It's about the 1969 Harlem concert equivalent of Woodstock, and one of the people interviewed lamented that we can afford to send men to the moon, but won't feed the poor in Harlem. Reminded me of "Moon Blues" by Otis Spann. You should give it a listen.
Beat me to that piece of trivia!
Yes! The story goes that while they were recording We Are the World, Michael came up to Daryl and said “I hope you don’t mind, but I “stole” I Can’t Go For That for Billie Jean, is that ok?” Of course Daryl said sure!
Michael said he would frequently dance to this song when he got out of bed.
Amber and her horns! That lean back and smile! Y’all are great!❤❤
This genre is known as Philadelphia blue eyed soul.
Daryl Hall had a show called "Daryl's House"...other musicians come in and play Hall and his band...they sing both artists' songs. Cee lo Green and Hall did an amazing job on this song...worth checking out.
Still exists. It's on AXS and it's awesome. Daryl Hall is t he greatest singer of my generation.
I absolutely love Hall & Oates and this song is great, it has everything! They owned the eighties, it was a great decade for them and for music in general! 💖💖
Hall and Oates is the most succesful musical duo in history. 7 of their albums are RIAA certified platinum and 6 are gold.
Blue eyed soul personified. Hall & Oates could do no wrong in the 80's. They were on fire!
Daryl Hall was one of the singers you didn’t recognize in your second time reacting to We are the World. 😁🎶🎸 I love him 😍
Both Hall and Oats were in the video, Hall got the mic, Oats in the choir group
I saw that as well. Glad you two know Hall and Oates now!
i just loved growing up in the 70s and 80s listening to this awesome band
Love me some Hall & Oates - Iconic and this is one of my favourites ^*^
One of my favorite Hall and Oats songs. De La Soul used the chorus and a few lines in their rap song "Say No Go"
Sax player is Charlie “ Mr Casual” DeChant. Been with them since mid 70s and still with them to this day. You need to do ‘One on One’ next
LOVE Charlie
Probably my favourite song by them. Just love it
I don’t know if anyone let you know. Daryl Hall is one of the faces you were trying to place in We are The World the other day.
Love love love Hall and Oates and always have always will!
You can never go wrong with Hall & Oates, and they never disappoint...always enjoyable! Love the reaction, as always!
This song and One on One are my favorites. Hall and Oates could do no wrong.
An exciting never to be repeated era of music & discovery, so glad i lived the 80s!
One of my favorites and their song Sarah!!
Brian McKnight covered this. If you haven't checked him out yet, you really should. I still listen to his 1st album in 1992. I've loved him since. Great singer, writer & multiple instruments.
6:37: I love when they have lots of sax in a song. I CAN go for that.
You can't go wrong with Hall & Oates (No Can Do). 😅 After hearing this, you now have to listen to Simply Red's "Sunrise," which samples this song- and it's AMAZING!!!
Amazing! Mick Hucknall from Simply Red samples I Can’t Go For That with his song Sunrise! Simply Red is another band from the 80’s you would adore! Holding Back the Years is timeless. Well worth your time to dive into Simply Red too. Love your channel!
Michael Jackson created the song "Billy Jean" from this groove. He heard it and changed it to make the sound of Billy Jean and then thanked Darryl Hall for this song that gave him the idea. So many people have used this song for their grooves (Biggy Small for example).
"Sara Smile" is amazing...it will become one of your all time favorite songs of any artist. Darryl Hall`s voice in "Sara Smile" is perfection!
Love Hall and Oates! They have so many good songs!
One of my favorite iconic slept on groups of the 80`s, i loved Hall and Oats style and swag back in them days
This is a perfect little song, I love it. His singing just sounds so effortless and the instrumental is just phenomenal. De La Soul sampled this one for "say no go" on their first album "3 ft high and rising", which I also love.
Y'all, your expressions are cracking me up in the *best* way! lol This is such an honest reaction, and it's just awesome. I believe the sax player is Charles DeChant; he did several songs with Hall & Oates and sometimes plays in Daryl's house band on Live From Daryl's House. He's also worked with other singers like Tina Turner and Billy Joel.
Daryl's house was freaking fantastic! Nothing but a jam session!
One of my favorite songs by them, I've been a fan of the group for a long time. Some other great songs by them you haven't reacted to yet: Sara Smile, Private Eyes, Maneater, Kiss On My List, Adult Education, Method Of Modern Love, Family Man, One On One, Say It Isn't So, and Did It In A Minute. I especially hope you are able to get to "Sara Smile" eventually, it's such a classic.
Hall and Oates, You Make My Dreams Come True!!
Hall & Oats were considered "Blue Eyed Soul"...so good!!!
This is the kind of music that just makes the heart and the soul smile!
I'm a GenXer and watching you two react to the music of our lives honestly brings me pure joy! Oh the memories of my youth. Each of these songs has a story and I LOVE that you love the music. The 80's were wonderful. Thanks for giving me a piece of it here with you. :) For another Hall & Oates favorite, I suggest "Kiss on my List". Love it!
Their song “ONE ON ONE” sounds amazing with headphones. Super smooth!
YES! This is a fantastic song. My favorite from Hall and Oates. Glad you finally checked it out.
My absolute favorite Hall and Oates song.
I graduated in 1982 and we in my opinion had some of the best music during that time period (70s and 80s). Hall and Oates was one amazing duo.
More childhood memories with this one! They were in heavy rotation on black radio back in the day. I’m still hoping one day y’all will discover Foster Sylvers from the Family group The Sylvers . He had a one hit wonder with his song “Misdemeanor”.
This earned a triple crown on the billboard charts. Number one on the Pop R&B and album charts. Urban radio wore this one out
The skating rink floor would be packed when this came on!!! This STILL goes hard in 2023!!
Now you have to check out the Live from Darryls house with Cee Lo Green.....
H&O is awesome!!
Daryl is touring with Todd Rundgren this month and it should be a great show. I saw them together in concert once - until then I didn’t realize they’d been friends for decades.
#1 Pop and #1 R&B in early 1982. They were all over the radio in the first half of the 80s.
“Do It For Love” is a great late-period song for them. Check it out.
First, I absolutely love Daryl Hall & John Oates and was thrilled to see them in concert again 3 years ago. They put on such a great show. This particular song and its harmonies are so evocative of Al Green’s Let’s Stay Together, a tune you absolutely must listen to. It’s one of the most soulful and romantic songs you’ll ever hear.
The lyrics in this song allude to how the record labels use and mistreat artists... In the same vein, a 70s/80s rocker named Billy Squier released a song called "The Stroke" which alluded to the same concept but with a very gritty Rock sound that was really popular... It's one of the most memorable tracks of it's time.. You gotta check it out.
YES!! 👍🏻😃❣️😃👍🏻
These guys are the soundtrack to my childhood. LOL My mom LOVED them and listened to the allllll the time. I love them too.
A very underrated H&O song that I know you'll like because of it's incredible bass line is "Your Imagination".
Finally!!!!!! This tune ROCKZ & SO fun to sing along too!🤗🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥💞💞💞💞🥴
Love Hall & Oates! Hope you'll do "Sara Smile" next
I was fortunate to see Hall & Oates in concert in 1984....aging myself here. But, it was one of the best concerts! Daryl Hall's vocal soulfulness and range are elite!!!
Such a great duo, these guys have a beautiful songs, Kiss on my List, Adult Education, Out of Touch, Maneater, One on One, Private Eyes and of course, my fav, Your Imagination.
If you’ll notice Daryl Hall always has a nice scat at the end of a lot of their songs. Say It Isn’t So is my favorite along with Sara Smile.
Dan Hartman, -(I can dream about you) 1984. Kinda have that Richard Marx sound. Keep up the good work 😎👍
Heck yes!
Hall & Oates turned down the opportunity to do that song for the Streets Of Fire soundtrack. They later released their own cover of it (with different lyrics) on Our Kind Of Soul.
That song is a banger!
Two of my favorite kids on the internet. A lovely couple, with good hearts.👍👍🇺🇲
Love it. "One On One" and "Did It In a Minute" are favorites.
Daryl Hall & John Oates - You've Lost That Lovin' Feeling - ya'll have to hear this one. I was so surprised that John does a lot of the singing.
Charlie DeChant has been their sax player since 1976.
When Hall & Oates we’re at their biggest, 80s, I was a young mom with 2 little ones. My husband watched the kids So I could go see them in Atlanta. My first concert ever at 29 years old!! I loved them and had a huge crush on Daryl Hall and that smooth voice and lions mane of blonde hair. Thx for this reaction!!
This is my favorite Hall & Oats song. Great reaction! I love the way Amber reacts to the sax solos! For another great sax solo, I highly recommend Rio by Duran Duran.
👍 in the 80's Hall and Oates, Duran Duran, INXS, and U2 were my favorite bands!
@@jeanniea3437 I was a total Duranie! They were my life!
Razzmatazz by Idkhow has a sweet sax solo.
I'm so glad I grew up during this era. It was a time of great experimentation in music. So many great bands. Enjoy the ride!!!
Glad yer gettin' around to their many songs! This one's so iconic, the sounds, the "I can't go for that, no can do." H&O have a dozen hits, easy, Some remaining: "Sara Smile" "Kiss On My List" "One On One" "Say It Isn't So" "Everything Your Heart Desires" and a cover of "You've Lost That Lovin' Feeling" originally by the Righteous Brothers.
Hall n Oats got it goin on here. I love it when younger generations groove to a song from days gone by.
Simply Red took parts from this song to write a song called Sunrise
You guys should react to it
I couldn't agree more. I have that album with Sunrise on it! ❤
I searched your archives for Pink Floyd's "Us and Them". It isn't there. I can hardly believe it.
Probably one of the sexiest sax solos ever recorded, by one of the greatest bands ever.
You will be moved.
Loggins and Messina’s “Move On” will treat you both to great guitar and sax solos!
They have many killer songs. Dig in!
Daryl Hall and John Oates are so smooth and great harmonies! Iconic Detroit sound! If you love sax, listen to #41 by Dave Matthews Band!! Awesome, awesome, awesome!!! Daryl’s house is a great show! Watch the one with Todd Rundgren in Hawaiii!! Last Ride! Crazy good!!
I think you mean Philly sound. 🤷♂️👍
Sarah smile is the one y'all need in your lives. Love me some Hall and Oates. Keep up the good work guys.
Turning 58 this year, and the 80s were the 70s & 80s were the Goldent Age of music.
This is one of the many groups I did not really pay much attention back in the day, but NOW, with the depths pop music has sunk, I have a new-found appreciation.
This song has been sampled a lot, but I think best in a great song called "Sunrise" by Simply Red. Great song.
Simply Red samples this in their song Stars…you would love them, especially Holding Back the Years-one of the best songs ever.
Yea that saxophone was beautiful on this song! And if you still want to hear more 80s instrumental music, I would suggest Herb Alpert's "Making Love in the Rain" feat. Lisa Keith & Janet Jackson.
Herb Alpert played a muted trumpet, not a saxophone. ;)
Hall and Oats ... always groovy and cool. This song has so much swag, such a banger. Not enough adjectives for this one.
Maneater!! Awesome sax in that too, plus it's just a killer song. 👍👍
Hall and Oates are greeeeeeeat. There are so many gems just keep listening. My fav I think is sara smile.
