- The Nikon Z9 finally arrived. My Friend Louis Invited me to join him in New Mexico and experience the Z9 together at an awesome Wildlife reserve. Did my camera arrive in time?

Got mine a couple weeks ago. There is surprisingly a fairly significant learning curve...even for a 20 year Nikon guy. I believe I now truly trust AF-C for the first time ever and was blown away how easily it just locked on to an eye and didn't let go. Look forward to seeing what you get with it. Keep up the great work!.
Right? It really is a different animal. I’m really torn between AF modes.

Always fun to tag along on your photo ops. Your storytelling is what drew me into your channel initially and is what keeps me coming back for the next episode. I really wanted to move from the D500 to the Z9, but that will have to wait a few years. When I retire next February i will take stock and see if it is in the cards.
It really is worth looking at. I think it may be my last camera for many years to come.

The one thing that always perplexed me was how a great photograher can be right beside you and shoot the same subject or scene with the same camera and settings etc. and get 100 times better photograph than I got. It has lead me to believe that great photographers are born with an eye for it that the rest of just do not have. It is like people that are born singers or can play any instrument they pick up. And no it is not camera settings or photoshop skills or learned composition skills, they just naturally know how to compose and frame a great photograph. I had an aunt back in the 1970's when she was around 40 years old bought her a kodak instamatic because she thought she needed a hobby. It was amazing some of the photos she took with that thing and she knew nothing about composition rules she just had a natural eye for a great photograph.

Great video! My Z9 arrived 2 days ago, and I couldn't be happier with it. Spent yesterday morning photographing birds and animals at home and was shocked by how well so many of my photos and videos turned out. The camera is every bit as great as I'd hoped it would be.
It really is a fantastic camera. congrats on getting yours.

The best bald eagle photos I've ever taken were with the Z9, 600/4, and 2xTC. The only advice I can offer is to spend considerable time researching the menus - which are much different from the Z6ii/Z7ii. Bottom line is, there is no right or wrong configuration - but it's important to re-think some old paradigms.
I am certainly learning that right now.
I love the way you tell your stories. That Z9, you will become a pro at it soon.

I received my Z9 on Christmas Eve and I love it. I've watched a few CZcamsrs struggling with capturing video content complaining as they go, not realizing that they'e settings were completely FUBARed; incorrect Autofocusing Mode, incorrect subject detection, etc. You actually have to be smarter that the camera to maximize its potential. Good luck and congratulations!
Then there is a good chance I may struggle. that camera is pretty dang smart. programming 101...garbage in garbage out.

Hi Josh, great video as usual. I can relate to when is it time to upgrade. I am still using a Nikon D7100 and I am perfectly happy with the results. I know the auto focus is no where near what the newer models have and I really would love to have eye focus, but as of now I am the only one who has to like my photos. I started my photography journey in mid 1965 with an old Mamiya with a top shutter speed of 1/500 and EVERYTHING was manual, including film advance. So compared to that I have came a long way.

Good to see some honest comments on field use as you learn the system. Been bypassing the moneymouth reviewers. Had health problems most of Jan and didn't preorder the Z9 like I did my D850. Still trying to see if I can rationalize it. When I start feeling better it might happen. I love having exciting packages delivered to my door. Waiting for that truck is better than Christmas because I know I'm getting something I want.

I'm amazed how well older AFS glass works on the Z9.
The older Z6/7 variants were up to half as fast at AF.
The Z9 is even a bit faster than my D5 or D850 bodies with Nikon G glass...
It really is surprising.
