    i remember doing this dance when i was a kid in camp lejune n.c. . my pinoy friend had four sisters who introduced us to it. now at age 40 with a background in kali and silat i still cant get the footwork right to avoid my ankles from getting trapped in the bamboo. this brought back memories.

    i think, every malay nation (philippines, malaysia, indonesia) has the claim to this dance. this dance is practiced even before these 3 countries were formed.. let's just be proud and appreciate that our countries' different ethnic groups were able to preserve it.

    From what I have seen so far, it seems that bamboo dances are prevalent throughout Southeast Asia and even eastern India. Borneans/Sabahans has this one, Filipinos has a few like the Tinikling and Singkil, Thais, Khmers, Vietnamese and Indians like Mizo and Assamese.

    @MrRathbun Hello Sir. Although it is taught in schools that the Philippines was populated by Malays and Indonesians, modern anthropologists now believe it is the other way around. Current belief is that people of the northern Pacific islands (like Guam) migrated east to Formosa (now Taiwan) and then spread south to the Philippines, then further south to Indonesia and Malaysia, eventually reaching as far east as Sri Lanka and Madagascar in Africa.

    Tinikling is originated in the Philippines,in a region of Visayan Islands.If you dance using a bamboo that is called a Bamboo dance but not tinikling dance.Tinikling words comes from a bird called tikling of whom people wants to catch a bird using bamboo sticks,and ask visayan guy on how to walk tinikling and why?

  • @CountryCowboy008
    @CountryCowboy008 Před 12 lety

    well, it may not originated from the Philippines, but by the looks of this performance in particular, it's costume, it's like they're from Ifugao (an ethnic tribe in the Philippines)
    And yeah, one commenter is right.. U wanna give credit? Why not give it to Adam and Eve? PROUD TO BE A HUMAN (that'll be more safe LoL)

    @ctg21361 why would we get tinikling from malaysians & indonesians when they came from us? also southern china, taiwanese aboriginals, vietnamese & some northern indians also have bamboo dances. but bamboo dance is more widespread in the philippines & seems to have originated from there.

  • @ctg21361
    @ctg21361 Před 12 lety +1

    I am Filipina. Do not assume that because a dance uses bamboo sticks, that automatically it originated in the Philippines. Think of the origins of the Filipino people with the Indonesian and Malay influence. They have their own dances that may look similar, but are not from our Philippine dances (more likely we got it from them!), so do not say that the singkil or the tinikling are the originals. Give the other countries credit for their ethnic heritage as well.

    • @Khtsz88
      @Khtsz88 Před 6 lety

      LoL~ Well, you're wrong at some of your points. Singkil is a dance based on Darangen which is a Southern Filipino epic. and Tinikling emerged during the colonial period. These dances are all Original Filipino Creations. Some people are just citing the similarities and differences. What I am trying to say is that you have to be extra cautious about mentioning influences from other culture. You need an In Depth understanding of our history before carelessly uttering or citing these influences. Research more about our Pre-Colonial History... I suggest. :)

    @MrRathbun It would be wonderful to see the day more evidence is discovered to help modern day anthropologists put together these missing pieces of the puzzle. As of now, there is no solid evdence of the true origin of the bamboo dance. My educated guess would be, wherever bamboo grows is a possible origin. It may have started simultaneously in different places.

This dance tells the story of a knight went hunting human head. after the hero gets a human head, they will celebrate the heroes of this dance. even if it is the same with the dance in another country, but different story. nor is it just coincidence.
