One of my all time favorite songs by one of my all time favorite bands. Live with Frances, no less! So amazing. Thank you Brett Kull for writing another timeless Echolyn classic. Your songs always move me.
The "Stars and Gardens" version of "A Little Nonsense" - seen on CZcams, then, on the DVD that I love - was my introduction to this brilliant band. To me, Echolyn is a very unique approach to prog... so different from other great prog bands (IQ, Glass Hammer are two other of my favorites) - they are extremely original and I think they're great...
This is one of the reasons I came to love the internet... Awesome music, played by good people and thanks to the net, we can follow closely the releases and sometimes even minor personal stuff... The video is just amazing!
"As the world" left me speechless, what a perfect record. It was only recently that I discovered it, and I am still baffled why this record and Echolyn did not get the credit they deserve. But listening at this song, or Mei for example shows me that "As the world" was not a one-off. I hope the band keeps going, remain motivated, produce more and will visit Europe at one point. It would be a pleasure to see them.
i think we would like to play at least one more time in Europe. As of today's date we are working on a new album...we shall see. Thank you for taking the time to write and comment on our music!
Thanks also to you for the open communication with your listeners, it´s well appreciated. Something else, I read comments from the band saying more or less that "As the world" is something of the fast, almost as if you´d want to forget about it. While I do see a lot of maturity in later work, and while not progressing musically would not be good, I was wondering, do you even listen back to older work, how do you feel about it ?
@@Tellygiorgos Hi, thanks for writing! Well, the ATW album is from our past, we tend to not be nostalgic in general. But, It was/is a very important record for us because it marks/represents our first professional album, the culmination of 4 years of nonstop work, and the end of our concerted effort to make the band our full-time career. it was both an exhilarating time and a tragically sad time. None of us would ever want to forget those experiences. We were at the forefront of a generation of really cool music (IMHO), all pre Internet. I wish we could have kept going but things happened at the label that did not allow that. But that is another discussion;-) As far as, "how do we feel about the songs" on that album? I think there is some great stuff. My favorites are the title track, The Cheese Stands Alone, and Uncle. Audio Verte and The Wiblet are pretty innovative. Yes, we like to keep moving into new areas... so, NOT repeating ourselves is keenly part of our songwriting. My favorite albums (we made) are the untitled album from 2012 and Mei (2002). Song for song, the strongest we have are those two albums. I think I personally got to a point in my young 30s when i felt like i had become more aware about songwriting (music and words). I looked at what I did before and saw it for what it was - a novice, trying way too hard - though with good intent. To me, my writing has been consistently better, i.e., I can look back on songs i wrote from the 2000s on and feel good about them as a whole. Before that, including (ATW) we (I) were just kids trying our best. What Im trying to say is that you get better at your craft over time if you don't loose the fire. I definitely have not lost it. It keeps me alive ;-) I love writing music and look at it as a great endeavor that keeps me humble for all its nuance. i know Ray and Chris feel the same way - it's one of the reasons we still love working together.
Hi again, Just to let you know how I discovered you, I am adding below link from Pete Pardo / Sea of Tranquility. He speaks very respectfully of Echolyn and this caught my attention. You might want to get in touch with him whenever you bring out new music, I´m sure he will be delighted to review your work.czcams.com/video/uznZCnge3n0/video.htmlI tried to buy ATW on CD (I usually buy vinyl records) but was unable to find and finally bought a used one on Discogs, they seem to be rare. Your other points about past and present are well noted, understood and make sense. Still before moving on after ATW I just want to say I love Uncle too aswell as Audio verité , a habit worth forming, prose, a short essay, actually I find ATW to be a very consistently strong album. I love the fact that I am discovering 25 year old music which sounds like having it´s roots the odd 25 years back in the great 70´s period of progrock, it has a retro-ish side but is still fresh and has a lot of energy in my opinion. You play like a tight unit, sometimes reminding me of Gentle Giant vocals, then reminding me of Steely Dan. Again well done. I listened again at Mei, your performance from 2013 aswell as other work (Speaking in Lampblack, Past Gravity and others), it is as you say, more mature, has much more depth and emotion, which of course is mostly absent from ATW. I like it a lot. But later music still, especially in the case of Mei retains something I can not better describe as a progrock sound. (without being too much stuck in this genre). I hope you don´t lose that. This piece makes unexpected musical turns which I find refreshing. I look forward to the journey discovering more of your work and while being musicians may be lonely at times, I would just like to let you know that there are people that appreciate your work and I certainly hope you, Chris and Ray keep the fire alive. I will let you know my opinion on your other work as soon as I can. What kind of music are you, Chris and Ray listening to now, and what inspires you today ?
@@Tellygiorgos We really appreciate you taking the time to write. Chris, Ray and i just got together last weekend for some more writing. Next week we will begin tracking 5 new songs for our upcoming album. Jordan Perlson is playing drums for us. Combine this with the new Rise Twain project I have coming out in September and i feel I've been very creative over the past couple of years. There are two singles out now to promote the new Rise Twain album. it is a duo project with a friend of mine (JD Beck). We play and sing everything. Jordan Perlson and Jonbicer play 5 songs each on the drums. Take care! B
one of the greatest thing in music is to find band like you, an hidden treasure. hope to see you live sometime soon in italy....you're just so incredible
Thanks Scott, that nice of you to say that. I sincerely hope you are well and still playing music all these years later. Remember the 1985 North Penn Prom?? Yikes ;-)
Man! When I bought Suffocating The Bloom, I was a fairly young man and so were you guys and Frank had hair :-) Good to see good music surviving. Times change but hopefully, if you can afford to, you'll always give us quality songs like this.
Ah yes, that was my higher education and college experience ;-) I have two shoe boxes of those years... they taught me a lot, like mostly how NOT to stare at my shoes when performing live! ha!
I used to wear out the cd "As The World" back in about '97. I lost track of your band since then. Glad I found you guys again. This video is absolutely spectacular.
We are hoping to do an extensive tour of Europe in 2014 after we get another album done. Promise ;-) Thank you for the kind words. much appreciated brett
You guys are so awesome, I really don't know how to express my feelings when I listen to your music, no joke. You've been quite a revelation for me this year, you make prog with heart and soul. Thank you so much for exist and work together, hope to see you soon in Italy :-)
Pretty cool video...im not sure, but i think i saw a clown in there? Good sound quality. Had one of those radio moments, having listened to the band on CD, i'd never seen a picture of them. Had completely different picture in my head of the lead singer. Fun stuff.
This band just can do no wrong in my book... Well apart from making me wait 7 years between releases. And not playing Kansas City. But other than that... If it was substance over style, these guys would be as much a household word as Yes or Genesis [though I'm not trying to compare them to either of those bands].
The lyrics in this album are too profound to be just anything...I think they tell a sad inside story, but this guys turn everything into good music...the curiosity stay but let's just listen to some real music!
echolyn are the uncles we all want
MY FAVORITE SONG. Good job dad
Lily Weston your dad is absolutely amazing. My fav is locust to Bethlehem. So many to choose from...
Ok, now I have listened all the way through…wow, wow…❤
A modern classic.
In a better world, you would be the superstars of Prog ... but then, somehow you are, not superstars but the best band out there :-)
Brett has always been a fantastic song writer. I hear bass lines in my head when I hear these tunes.
My God.... These guys are INCREDIBLE!
I can play this over and over again, such an unbelievable beautiful song.... and thank you Francis, wow!!!
It's 2019 and this song has 0 dislikes. Perfectly balanced.
it's 2020 but still...
2023 and it's still PERFECT.
Just found these fine folk on CZcams... FANTASTIC!!! Bears repeated listening...Got their latest album because of these great vids - VERY HAPPY!
One of my all time favorite songs by one of my all time favorite bands. Live with Frances, no less! So amazing.
Thank you Brett Kull for writing another timeless Echolyn classic. Your songs always move me.
So talented it's really sad they didn't get the recognition they deserve. Major props to u guys. Thx for your beautiful melodies
Love the song and video. Great stuff!
Thank you sir! It is a goal of ours to visit and play in Italy again.
This is still my favorite Echolyn song...until July when another new one takes it's place.
They just keep getting better and better. True masters of music.
Awesome song .

Beautiful song... something deeply emotional about it. The way it finishes is just sublime
Great band great song. love from indonesia
"she love to fly but the sky dont care".. 😇
Hello form Pennsylvania! Thanks for reaching out!
My brother borrowed me Suffocating the Bloom a few months ago. Echolyn has since become my favorite band. These guys are
Such a hauntingly beautiful song! This performance will stay in my heart forever!
This is safe haven for those who want more than a commercial radio can give.
This song is like a hymn to me... thanks guys...
Brett Kull has an incredibly beautiful voice...

Superb!
Absolutely love this song Brett and what a voice. Lovely bit of guitar from Francis just adds to the whole track.
Class, character and great ideas. What a band.

I've always thought it was cool that echolyn was my own little secret but i guess that doesn't pay bills

Great stuff but something is missing.
