    Tim Conway who plays the dentist was known for going off script. He was always ad libbing every script they did. Harvey korman who's playing the patient can never keep character when he's in a skit with Tim Conway. That was the gold in watching the show back in the day. To see who could not laugh during the skit. Tim Conway was a master. Rest in peace

      That was the real fun - seeing how long Korman would last until Conway made him break character, which was ALL THE TIME! I was noting today that we kinda have the same vibe with SNL today. For example, McKinnon would make cast members break, and Hader broke character a lot. It's the fun of the sketches!

      On a late-night talk show, Tim Conway said he made Harvey Korman pee his pants because he laughed so much. Moreover, Harvey could not leave since he was stuck sitting in that dental chair. Tim was known to ad-lib, especially when he was working with Harvey. They worked well together and remained good friends for decades after "The Carol Burnett Show" ended. They even would tour the country, giving shows about their careers and redoing some sketch comedies they performed. You guys should watch the sketch called "The Elephant Story," which has Carol Burnett, Tim Conway, Vicki Lawrence, and Dick Van Dyke.

      yep in this skit Tim said during rehersals that it was a pretty boring skit so he decided to liven it up and do new stuff, which is the stuff that happened when he injected his hand. At that point Korman knew what Tim was going somewhere else with the scene and everything after that Korman knew nothing about.

      @@DianaPriceWriter Lorne Michaels creator/producer of SNL hates when someone breaks character. He has been known to replace an actor in a skit if they can't hold it together during rehearsal. He actually scolded David Spade when he was having trouble keeping it together. Lorne said "Get your sh*t together, this isn't the Carol Burnett Show". I think the main reason he hates the character break is that SNL is a live show and there is only so much time per skit.

    The Carol Burnett Show is a gold mine of comedy! Carol, Vicki Lawrence, Lyle Waggoner, Harvey Korman, and Tim Conway, (the last two were in the sketch you just watched), made up the main cast. They would do spoofs of movies and TV commercials. Carol was known for her 'Tarzan' yell and taking questions from the audience before the main show. She was also known for a funny impersonation of Queen Elizabeth. Fun fact: Lucille Ball was one of her mentors! One of the more popular sketches was "The Family" which was spun off as a sitcom in the early 80s called "Mama's Family".

    The bald guy is Tim Conway and the patient was Harvey Korman (and yes, he was in Blazing Saddles). They were extremely funny and there are lots of great skits from this show. I recommend watching “Went With the Wind” a parody of “Gone With the Wind.” It’s incredibly funny and you’ll get to see Carol Burnett as “Starlett O’Hara” and Harvey Korman as “Captain Ratt Butler” (which of course, won’t mean much to you if you’ve never seen the original movie but I suspect you’d laugh anyway). If you ever do the elephant story skit, the background on it is that the show had rehearsals in the morning, where they would read through the skits... then they would have a rehearsal in front of the audience that evening... then the final skit for tv...and word got around that tim Conway, in usual form, was going to change the story in the skit to try and make everyone laugh. Carol Burnette ran around telling everyone, and was like "ok, we have to remain strong, and not laugh"... well, at show time he did, in front of the live audience, and they had to do a retake, neither of which ever aired on tv. The video is of the two takes.. dick van Dyke was the star that night, and he's sitting on the arm of the chair. You have to see it. It's awesome. Great reaction. Thank you. 😊 make sure you choose the video that is almost 5 minutes... not the shorter one.

    Tim Conway was very famous between the 60-80s as he was first on the tv show Mchale Navy and then the Carol Burnett Show. Tim's goal on the show was to crack up Harvey (the patient) as well as Carol and the rest. Both guys went out to make Disney flicks together that were relatively successful because they were cheap to make. Tim's son is on the radio in Los Angeles and the guy sounds like a clone of his father. To the point where on the Johnny Carson show (i think) they did a skit where Tim was creating a echo of himself when in reality it was his son doing the echo Harvey was the guy on Blazing Saddles as well as at least one other Mel Brooks film. The irony of this show was that when SNL was first created, they made a point of being the anti-Carol Burnett show in that they didn't want their actors to break and start laughing in the middle of the skit. The irony being that some of the funniest skits SNL has done resulted from actors breaking character. The Debbie Downer skits were only funny because no one could stop from laughing.

    The Carol Burnett Show was a variety show including skits and musical performances. Any skit involving Tim Conway and Harvey Korman are solid gold comedy. Tim never stayed on script and Harvey could never stay in character. Tim didn't just do skits with Harvey Korman though. There are also many movie spoofs, of which you most likely wouldn't understand the references, but may still enjoy the comedy. Tim started out as a recurring guest on the show before finally being made a full fledge regular.

    Tim Conway, the dentist, was a regular guest on the Carol Burnett show. In fact he was so regular, most people just thought he was part of the cast but, IIRC, he didn't officially join the cast until the last season. He made it his mission in life to try to get other characters in skits to break character laughing. He would go rogue and deviate from the official script and the result was usually much better than what was originally planned. Harvey Korman, the patient (and AG in Blazing Saddles) what the one who most had trouble keeping it together so, naturally, he was Tim's prime target.
    You should check out a skit called "the Elephant Story". He managed to get the entire cast busting up so hard that one of them called him an a-hole while the cameras were rolling.

    I love Tim Conway, the Dentist. He was notorious for cracking up the other people on the show. Carol Burnett and Vickie Lawrence eventually became a television sensation as Eunice and Mama in Mama's family. One of the best sketches never aired. It was an episode with Tim Conway and Dick Van Dyck. I think it's called the Elephant episode. You guys should check that out. It was a real treat to watch.

    Carol Burnett is still alive at 90. It was on for 11 seasons from 1967-1978. It was a variety show... with musical guests and very talented ensemble cast.... It's treasure trove of great comedy. Her movie spoofs are the best! Also The Jackson Five were on many times as musical guests. The the recurring sketch "mamas house" with characters that were long lasting, and even one of the sketches turned into a TV series with Carol Burnett is this crazy, southern woman, name Eunice, her cantankerous mother "Mama" and many guests playing relatives, including Eunice's older wealthy sister Ellen, played by Betty White!

    LOVE how Tim Conway ["the bald guy"] and Harvey Korman always cracked each other up so badly on stage. Those skits were done live. You also must see their "Elephant" skit, and "Gone with the Wind" skit.
    Yes, Harvey Korman did play "Hedley Lamarr" in Blazing Saddles. He also did 3 other Mel Brooks movies.

  • @juniorcruzjr.8885
    @juniorcruzjr.8885 Před 7 měsíci +4

    Yes! If you react to Carol there are many great ones but when she plays Eunice she’s at her best, they are usually called “The Family” skits, Tim Conway plays the dentist in this sketch he also played a doofus named Mickey who was bff of Harvey Kormans (the patient) character Ed who was married to Eunice. Tim was famous for trying to make the actors break character and laugh and he really does it in the sketch called “The elephant story “, it’s hysterical! Other great ones are “Sorry!” Where Vicki Lawrence (Mama) is the one to ad lib and noticeably throws Carol who tries not to laugh. As a whole the Family sketches were the best and every one is a gem, leading to the Mama’s Family series in the eighties. Enjoy!

    Tim Conway (the dentist) was a career comedian best known for Disney's The Apple Dumpling Gang. He did a lot of the 60s/70s live-action Disney movies. He also had the Dorf series (Dorf on Golf, etc) where he played a height-challenged individual learning sports. He was a comedy genius. Harvey Korman (the patient) is exactly who you thought he was. He was in a bunch of Mel Brooks and Gene Wilder movies throughout the years.
