  • Loads of you asked about this external filter in one of my recent videos so I thought I would do a little video on it for you all.
    It's a great filter that would fit any aquarium up to 60 litres. It has so much space for bio media or even changing it up for other types of filter media.

    I love Oase. I have the biomaster 350 thermo. Very well built, very effective filter. Love the prefilter and the heater, keeps clutter out of the tank. On Oase filters, if the part is coloured blue, it moves.

    • @deep6ed
      @deep6ed Před měsícem

      @@madhatterjones4781 I'd highly recommend it. The inlet and outlet both have valves so you can turn down the flow if you need to. I can't say it enough, the pre filter sponges are a game changer. It takes 5 minutes to remove the pre filter module, rinse the sponges under a tap and reinstall the clean module. Keeps the main body of the filter clean. I checked out of curiosity after 4 months running time. Impressed just how clean the filter media are.

    I run oase filtosmart 60, if you use the oase thermo 100 cap (which you can buy separately) you can fit a 50w superfish heater. Nano external filter with a heater in the UK - perfect 😊

      Yeah it’s from the “Oase ThermoFit FiltoSmart 100” spares/accessory kit. I use the cap and the black tube to protect the heater from direct contact with any media/foam. Although you need to cut the tube to fit it.

    Great no nonsense video Matt, the Filtosmart 60 looks like a nice little filter. the Oase filters are quite expensive in Australia and sell for $140 Aus dollars. I cut some corners and purchased a cheap SunSun HW603B to try a canister on my 60 litre aquarium, this was $45 Aus dollars so cheap but feels cheap too and is a pain to get open I feel. I have three 60 litre aquariums so would be expensive to purchase three of the Oase.

    This is a rebranded Eden 501 filter, only difference between the two is the Eden has a smoked opaque body so you see the internal filter media. Harder to find, EBay may be the best option, and it’s a lot cheaper than the Oase.

    • @jackasscou
      @jackasscou Před měsícem +1

      Here in France the Eden 501 is more common to find tha the Oase Filtosmart. But 100% agree with you, it's the same filter but more expansive because of the Oase skin.

    For a bowl it's probably the only sensible option. But it is a bit pricey for what it is.
    For a small nano-aquarium the AllPondSolutions Hob-500 is a better/cheaper option as a 'Hang on the back canister' filter. Just my opinion of course.

    Pump is IDENTICAL to the older line of ZooMed filters…which have now changed the side locks…which are a bit of a pain.
    Excellent little filters…but best for smaller than specified capacity tanks as you are doing…if only because they are a bit difficult/time consuming to clean. They run a long time and are reliable…other than the tubing which will gather algae internally and become more difficult to clean with time. Plan on replacing the flexible tubing every year or two.

    Hey Matt . I would love it if you would show us shrimpbabies in different ages and tell us a bit about how they breed.

    I have a Ultam delta 30 on my 15 gallon bowl. I hid the filter behind the cabinet. Tank is crystal clear. It's a species only tank (Morse code tetras). They mostly hover in their territories. *I'm curious if you have experienced the race-track behavior of some species in bowls. They race around and around for hours (never finding the end). I don't know if this is good or bad. Of the species I've had in these 15-gallon bowls, Sparkling Gourami, Bettas, Morse code tetras, and shrimp seem fine. Corydoras race and race, so did guppies.

    There's actually cheaper ones available online I think they're called Eden exact same design and I think oase make them

    What’s the noise level like? Is it quiet?
    Pretty interested in one of these

      I believe the body of the filter is used on a couple different applications.

    It probably doesn't make a lot of difference for a filter of this size but every canister filter I have seen places the mechanical filtration, the sponge before the biological media. This one has it the opposite way round.

    Where can I find the small screen you have on the intake. Does it come with the set, or something Oase offers as additional equipment.. This pump will work brilliantly for my 30l shrimp tank

    Also... how does the water pass from one side to the other looks like the divided blocks it completely?

    Is oase available in America? I’ve seen some influx of Sicee brand filters and heaters but none from oase.

    I've got a similar model ive done under gravel system. But going to doing another version to it. Where did you get the light from?

    • @FishShopMatt
      @FishShopMatt  Před měsícem +1

      That sounds cool! Loads of retailers in the UK have the ONF range, it's a more premium light but as with anything you get what you pay for.

    Hi Matt, can i get your advice on this filter please. Would the filtosmart 60 be ok for a 2ft tank 60x30x45 (its approx 70ltr) tanks are fully planted co2 high light tanks, or would i have to go with the 100. its for max 20 chilli rasboras in one tank and the other tank 20 or 30 Kubotai rasboras in. what would you recommend? thanks

    How audible is this filter?
    I really wanna try an external filter on my bedroom aquarium, just like this one, but I'm scared it will produce too much noise.

    Am I right in thinking the filter has the flow going from inlet through the biomedia then to the sponge?
    Why did they make it run backwards?

    • @FishShopMatt
      @FishShopMatt  Před měsícem

      I think it's so the maintenance is slightly easier. The great thing is I'm yet to block this one up because of the amount of bio media in it.

    Thanks Matt. It says 60 litre max, I have a 110 litre tank, and use an internal filter and it's rated for 150l. This oase has the space for 4x the media of my internal filter, so I wanted to know how this filter is only rated to 60l? Surly it's way better than the internal filter...

    • @FishShopMatt
      @FishShopMatt  Před měsícem

      You're welcome, yeah it's a tricky thing because there is no rule to what a company says a filter can do.
      The flow rate on this is max of 300lph so would turn your tank over a couple times an hour at least. But it probably has a slower flow rate than your internal, that's just me guessing though.

    • @airjaff
      @airjaff Před měsícem

      I think this filter going to be better than my fluval u3 for sure. Hardly any room for media and only tiny sponges. I think with all the rocks and wood my tank has probably around 80l of actual water in. Wish I knew about this filter before. I'll get one when this fluval dies because I know it will, fluval always breaks in my experience

    It is basically the same as the eden 501. And that one is cheaper.

    I've been using one for almost a year now on a 40 liter tank and I have to say I really don't like it.
    The hose connections feel like they could pop loose any moment. The lid on the filter gets stuck almost all the time and I need to stick a screwdriver in the seal to wrench it open. And I needed to 3d-print some clamps for the hoses because the suction-cups are terrible.
