I must recommend "Spider Baby" (1965), starring the great Lon Chaney Jr.! Yes, it's low-budget, yes it's in black and white. But it's as unique as it is creepy. The film also features noteworthy supporting performances from Sid Haig and Jill Banner (watch the dinner scene, when she's eating the salad). Added bonus: Chaney Jr. sings the movie's theme song! Well worth a look for Halloween.

Such a fun and creepy movie! Always reminds me of a pre Addams Family precursor.
The great Mantan Moreland has a cameo at the beginning.
I can watch this flick over and over.

Jennifer's body is a cult masterpiece and anyone who thinks otherwise is lime green Jello and they can't even admit it to themselves! Plus all Tim Burton movies rule. Look at how much the details improved on Corpse Bride vs. Nightmare it's incredible how far they advanced in around a decade. Thank you Lady Jay Mistress of the Dark! 🦇

For me, the three final months of the year belong to Tim Burton. Corpse Bride is for preparing for halloween, Sleepy Hollow is for halloween, The Nightmare before Christmas is for the time between halloween and christmas and Edward Scissorhands is an annual christmas tradition. Because that time of the year would just be incomplete without the appearence of Christopher Lee and Vincent Price.

Interesting list! I’ve seen almost all of them, except for 3: Pet Sematary, Corpse Bride, & The Ring. My personal top 10 list (not in any order): Friday the 13th part III (1982), Dracula (1931), The Invisible Man (1933), The Wolf Man (1941), Creature from the Black Lagoon (1954), Halloween (1978), Halloween (2018), The Frighteners (1996), Sleepy Hollow (1999), & The Nightmare Before Christmas (1993) 🎃👻

The Nightmare Before Christmas is a Halloween Movie that takes place during Christmas, like Diehard is an Action Movie that takes place during Christmas. Neither are truly Christmas movies, but are admissible viewings during Christmas. Plus Jennifer's Body has way more substance than it let on, yes it has fan service, but I'd argue that its more than the sum of its parts.

I’m more of a monster movie aficionado so as far as scary ones go for me it’s Alien, John Carpenter’s The Thing, Predator (I mean it basically turns into a horror film after 20 minutes), and finally both Godzilla 1954 and 84 as those two are the more “horror” tinged films in the franchise (and we might be getting a third in that style with Godzilla Minus One this December). I need to watch The Crow myself at some point. Solid list, Jay!

I really like your list! Intersects a lot with mine! Here are some extra masterpieces, IMHO, to add to this already awesome list:
    - Addams Family (great family movie that I watch with the kids every year and one of my all time favorite movie)
    - Nightmare on Elms Street (the original only which is not afraid to end very badly)
    - The Omen (an old classic that relies on atmosphere and mystery to get you hooked big time)
    - Amytiville (the original 70s one, I still shiver thinking about that one, real horror and zero special effects)
    - Brain Dead (New Zealand zombie gore fest comedy style made by no other than Peter Jackson!!!)
    - Fright Night (the original not the remake, the ultimate Vampire movie for Halloween season!! Oldie but goody)
If you have not seen some of these movies, I highly recommend!
    Happy Halloween season!

    The original Nosferatu from 1922.
    Rosemary's baby
    The original Exorcist.
Hellraiser (people's favorite out of the series varies. But the first is always a good start)
    The original Poltergeist
An American Werewolf in London (Scary but also funny and just a good movie)
    The original The Thing
Then there are Hitchcock movies. But not for those with issues with attention span. The movies work on the long drawn out suspense that just builds and builds.

That is a cool list based on the ones I’ve seen. I’m also a fan of The Crow (which Marvel did an homage to with a Captain Marvel poster) and of the Tin Burton movies mentioned.
Another one you should check out is “V for Vendetta” which is particularly good for watching in November 5th. It has both some similarities and lots of differences compared to “The Crow” and definitely has an interesting story.

Great list! I would add Stephen King's Misery. I don't know if it's more thriller than horror but a great watch for the october season. I would also highly recommend The Devil's Rejects. It's the sequel to House of 1000 Corpses which is also an entertaining film and worth a watch. Devil's Rejects however still gives me chills watching it till this day. Probably my all time favorite horror movie.

Nice selections! Have you seen Doctor Sleep? It manages to be a sequel to The Shining novel and the movie (which you probably know was very much Kubrick's Shining). It gets a bit fan-servicy near the end but I really enjoyed it. Ewan McGregor and Rebecca Ferguson are both great in it and Mike Flanagan directed. He also did Oculus which I recommend if you like movies where , along with the main characters, never quite know what is and isn't real.

So far 10 watched already. I try to keep the heavy hiters more for October and the closest to Halloween for afformentioned Halloween theme movies.

This my favorite time of year. Horror movies are my favorite . Love all the old classics but I’m a big James wan fan as well . Except maybe the last couple movies he’s done but most of his stuff is good considering Modern horror usually sucks

Most of your list I will agree with. Some I will not or better yet not watch at all. However to each their own and a warm spooky thanks for sharing! That said I have one point and one suggestion. Point: let's give credit where credit is due! Tim Burton created the characters, and he was producer but he did not direct "Nightmare Before Christmas" that film was (with sereal excellence )directed by Henry Selick who also directed the creepy animated wonder "Coroline"
The film I would recommend would be the 1963 film "The Haunting" a masterpiece directed by Robert Wise is the ultimate ghost to watch in the dark. Sure, it's shot in black and white, that adds to the moody atmosphere of the old house that makes you wonder exactly what is in that room holding darkness within. Check it out!

AAAAAAAAGH! Candy corn!!!!??? The Horror, the horror. Mine: 1931 Dracula, not scary but fantastic atmosphere, Frankenstein and Bride of Frankenstein (1931-35). Once again not very scary but amazing atmosphere. 1999 Sleepy Hollow. (My kind of Tim Burton Movie). The Sixth Sense, The Others (2001), Hallowe'en (1978) The Invisible Man (1933) One expection of film but a TV special. It's the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown (1966 for nostaligia and laughs), Salem's Lot (1979 TV Mini series). And finally The Wicker Man (1973)
