- I recently started a scent series, featuring the fragrances worn by the stars of yesteryear. Today's fragrance is Dana’s Tabu, Dorothy Dandridge’s perfume of choice. The notes are as follows (as seen on Fragrantica):
Top notes: Spices, Orange, Coriander, Neroli and Bergamot
Middle notes: Cloves, Ylang-Ylang, Jasmine, Rose and Narcissus
Base notes: Amber, Civet, Benzoin, Sandalwood, Patchouli, Musk, Oakmoss, Vetiver and Cedar

The Tabu that's out today has been reformulated and is missing some of the notes mentioned on Fragrantica, which was listed for the vintage Tabu. My Mother wore the vintage Tabu back in the '60's, which was more full-bodied and a little heavier and longer lasting, compared to the newer Tabu being reviewed in this video. Nevertheless, I absolutely LOVE ❤️ the warm, spicy, oriental incense-y, powdery, woody notes of today's Tabu!! It's a beautiful fragrance to wear anytime!🌼🌼🌼
Tabu is truly a one-of-a-kind fragrance, and I LOVE that it’s so lush and complex. The ylang ylang was too much for me, but it is dazzling fragrance overall.

They say to spray one spray and let it settle … it’s key to never over spray. I do love Obsession and I even love one spray of Youth Dew which is amazing to me. White Diamonds is also surprisingly a new love 🥰! Thanks for the review 😍!
Thanks for stopping by! No matter how I applied it (spray in the air and let it fall, spritz on my wrist) I couldn’t love it. The ylang ylang is so awful … I dislike every fragrance I’ve smelled that contains it. I still need to smell Youth Dew!

I’m sure you’re prepared, but Youth Dew is also super polarizing. But to me, I love deep, rich, complex scents and this is definitely one. It is a cola like super sweet and spicy bomb that turns into a powdery vanilla. I was a kid in the 70’s so this perfume holds sentimental value for me… but it’s definitely “extra” as my teenagers say😂🥰!
Ok so I received my Tabu and I do like it… it is dusty though… so I’ve mixed it w/ Shalimar ,Obsession, and sweet vanillas and I like it. It does last wow! But it’s too dusty and old attic box for me w/ out mixing in some vanilla or sweetness. I do love the spices. I got room for her🥰❤️.
My grandmother’s favorite, she was a sexy , beautiful and the smartest woman I ever or will ever know. I love the sent of course because it reminds me of my grandmother who my grandfather passionately loved till the end. I have a bottle and as a man I’ll put a tiny bit by my nose just to remind me of my grandmother, love and miss her more than anything else. Love you’re preview

I'm a man living in hot, tropical, southern Mexico and I like to wear this when I go shopping! Obsession is another one I grab before running out of the house on an errand.

I love that you wear this and Obsession! Both scents are classic AND stylish! I can see how this fragrance would be perfectly suitable for a tropical climate: it’s got some notes that work well with hotter temperatures.
Tabu is the warmest smelling perfume I've ever smelled. It's also spicy, resinous, ambery, and a bit heavy. It's very smooth too. I love Orientals, this is just unapologetically Oriental!

Intersting - I bought a bottle from Walmart the other week ago and the bottle and box look different. It has a matte cap and the stem is clear, the boxt also had pictures with the notes on the back, but it was only 2-3 notes on each level. I can smell lots of orange, neroli, civet, and musk and I don't feel she's really "loud" on me. It almost makes me wonder if there's variations in formulation even in the new bottles? Love your vintage reviews so far!
The Joy perfume I bought from eBay, it’s powdery but lovely.
I hope I’ll come across a bottle of it! It’s become harder to find over the past couple of months.

Oh Boy, I agree! It is loud and over done! I don’t love it either, but man o’ man, something draws me in, and makes me almost feel forced to wear it? I know that sounds weird and overdone, but its the truth!

This was my FIRST perfume! I got it from my aunt who was borm 110 yars ago. I was about 8 or 9 when she gave it to me. It was THEE STINKINEST PERFUME I've ever smelled! Whew!😂
😂😂😂 I tried wearing it a few times and I just couldn’t get over it: I gave it to a charity shop. I hope it blesses somebody LOL
