  • This video breaks down how to fill in thin and bare areas in your St. Augustine lawn. St. Augustine grass does not grow by seed and will have a difficult time filling in on its own. I have over 10 years experience in the field with a degree in horticulture. I am owner and operator of Turf Organics in Jacksonville, Florida.
    This extremely detailed video will explain what tools you will need and exactly how much soil and sand to use. Florida lawns and St. Augustine grass is very difficult to maintain. This video is the perfect guide to get your lawn to where it needs to be.]

      Make sure that the tree is trimmed properly and brings in as much light as possible. If their is not enough sun light then this will not work either. Doing this is a great place to start. If you are still having trouble under the tree keep trimming it till enough light gets in to allow the grass to fill back in.

    This video is the complete deal on how to fill in dead spots in St. Augustine. Sounds simple BUT it's the important details on the prep and application that makes the difference. Everybody says to just dump some BK on these spots. Then your yard doesn't react and you have to do it over or your just disappointed in the results after all the work and money spent. I've got some areas where I lost turf to pulling out crabgrass, and sod webworms eating my grass. Followed this plan and as he said Mother nature made it work. Thanks Chad.

    This works really well for our st augustine grass here in Austin. It is super easy to apply. Just purchased the black cow and leveling sand from the local home depot. Mixed well in the wheel barrow before application. After 3 weeks , I noticed some of the bare spots have been filled. The rest with little shoot and I guess it will be filled soon.

    Great video, and I will definitely try this technique out on the bare spots in my Houston lawn! Some of the spots are about the same size as your video, while others are much larger - basically dead spots from too much tree shade. I’ve taken care of the shade problem, but wondering if I need to resod the larger bare spots (one is about 25 sf), or just put the soil mix down and let the runners do their thing.

      I would recommend sod or plugs in those bigger areas!! You can put down some soil put some sod on top then use more soil to fill around the edges and in-between the sod pieces to help those big areas fill in faster!!!

    This video was very interesting. I’m certainly out of practice taking care of my lawn but I’m back! I have about 1/4 of my back yard and part of my front that I’ve been laying sod, fertilizing and putting grass seeds out. I’m really trying to stay positive but it’s not growing as quickly as I want. It’s been about 2 1/2 weeks and I only see a small portion coming in. The grass is St. Augustine but I’ve mixed in Bermuda grass seeds. I’m hoping this will live together in harmony! The areas needing attention were water deprived for sure. I know I’m a great DIYer but patience is not part of my MO! Haha. Any ideas to get this lawn green would be most appreciated. Great video too! Thanks!

    • @bettercallchadd
      @bettercallchadd  Před 3 lety +1

      Hey Robert.... welcome back the world of grass!!! Haha
      Patience is key!!! 2 1/2 weeks is very soon and we are have a very mild spring temperature wise. The soil temperatures are still cool so the grass is growing a little slower then it normally would. It sounds you like you have a great start. Be patient and do not over fertilize, it will do more harm then good.
      Stay consistent and patient. In 2 mi the we will be in full growing season and things will be happening much faster then.
      I hope this helps. Thanks for the comment and support 👍
