  • I actually made this video for a friend of mine who wanted to flat tow his YJ. Someone pointed out that I can route the tail light wiring through the hood latch instead of across the hood.
    Also, note this is a manual transmission. If you have an auto, it should be in park when flat towing.

    This video was a lifesaver! I gave it a test run w/it in neutral w/o putting the transfer case in neutral. I then tested it w/it in 3rd gear with the transfer case still in neutral and it rattled upon take off. After watching this video and seeing how your jeep was set up just like mine...it made perfect sense. Now off to tha beach! Thank you!!!

    Run those brake light 4pin cables through the c shaped window rest mount on the hood and it should help with the wind blowing it around too much.

    Any worry about tieing the steering wheel, or does the jeep just follow?

    • @treymiller7603
      @treymiller7603  Před 3 měsíci +1

      As along as the steering wheel is not locked, it will follow nicely.

    How fast can you safely tow your jeep. My CJ weighs about 3500 lbs and am concerned about it yanking my truck sideways.

      I’ve pulled it at 80 with no issues.

      @@treymiller7603 thx! I don't have plans to do 80, but was hoping 70 would work.

      @@treymiller7603 btw - I bought a rear view camera so I could monitor the jeep better. Did a test run - easy peasy at 65, tho I did a short stretch at 72 with no trouble. Thx!

      If it’s a few inches, probably not. There needs to be plenty of room up and down movement.

    What did you do for brakes?

    • @treymiller7603
      @treymiller7603  Před 3 lety +2

      Nothing for brakes. My truck can stop with the Jeep in tow without issue. I do recommend allowing for more following distance from the vehicle ahead of you.

      @@treymiller7603 I'm going from Missouri to ouray Co. Just trying to figure out of any laws are in effect for brakes.. some require it I believe.. thank you.

      Gotcha. I’m not aware of any laws regarding flat towing. I tow my Jeep a few times during deer season about 3 hours north for the past three years. I’ve not had any issues. Good luck with your trip.

    Leave keys in?

      @treymiller7603  Před 2 lety

      I can pull my keys out even when it’s running. I guess they’re so worn from use. I take mine out. Otherwise, you’ll have to leave a key in there so the steering wheel stays unlocked.

    Just pull out leaving the jeep in second gear..what? Why is that.

      I’m sorry. I just saw your comment. Yes, manual transmission in 2nd or 3rd gear (automatic in Park) and transfer case in neutral. Make sure the steering wheel is unlocked.
