Due the fact I am completely new to Proxmox at all - THIS video 100% worked out for me and I was able to follow your steps and create the backups on a USB-stick - THANK YOU!

Great video! By the way, if you're interested in automatically mounting a drive after reboot on Proxmox, you can do so by editing the /etc/fstab file and adding an entry for the desired drive. Make sure to include the UUID of the drive and the correct mount point. After doing this, the drive will be automatically mounted whenever the system is rebooted. Great tip for those working with Proxmox servers!

Thank you very much for your video. Very clear and to the point. For me it has been a little bit difficult to follow due to its pace and my lack of knowledge. But I have managed to follow you at 0,5 speed sometimes. 😅

This video is SO chaotic with the perspecitve jumps and the fast type ins and HIT enter as if you want us to go back again 100 times!

    LIFE SAVING TIP!!!!!!!!!!!!
If you want to take your USB drive and then plug it back in, you gotta go to your node terminal (in this video it is "frosty" and then click "shell") and type "mount -a" without the apostrophy.
Gave me a heart attack at first my mates :P

have a question - followed this exactly but I have 2 drives - plugged them both in
one was SDI and the other was SDJ - I listed both in the /etc/fstab UID on separate lines and made my backup directory in /home/backups2 is what its called
scheduled the jobs and all to that storage directory
I feel I did this wrong

I followed the instruction and everything worked like a charm. But for some strange reason despite the fact that the total size of the HD is 1Tb the backup is limited to a total of 100Gb. any clue for it?

How to remove the drive when the backup is done.

Is it possible to use part of the external drive for data storage for a VM itself?
E.g. /home/bu is used by proxmox for backups, but /home/data is used by a VM itself for data storage resp. backups on a VM-internal level?

    VERYYYYY Important!
And you forgot to mention how much better this is vs. like an OS built in cloud back up. Because you aren't trusting in a 3rd party! Also, make that partition vid!
You know I love my spongebob memes 🤌

I surely hope you're not checking proxmox logs, or else you'll find tons of warnings, since proxmox doesn't know how to handle removable storage.
