You are correct - totally unnecessary. In what universe does someone expect to get away with that foul.? That poor decision cost his team the game. Imagine running your ass off for 48 minutes to secure and hold onto a 2 point lead and one of your teammates does something like that. College sports are more exciting because of the inexperience and immaturity factor of the players and here is a prime example.

At the end of 2OT Kent State was down by 5, just as many as JMU came back from, and they had more than 4 seconds on the clock and they just gave up. Two different team mentalities
You must be trolling. Kent St had four seconds after a back court rebound.. big difference than inbounding the ball.
@Mosin_4_Life JMU had a backcourt inbound and still made it happen with 3.8 seconds. Kent State had 4.6 seconds, and I would say it takes equal to or less than 0.8 seconds to rebound the ball. They could have sent a few guys down court and done a similar long pass to a man posted up for 3 after that rebound, giving them equal or more time than JMU had. They did not need all 4 guys rebounding. This would still be extremely difficult, and they would have had to get lucky making up the last 2 points as JMU did even if they did hit a 3. I'm not saying they could have made it all come together, but they didn't even try. And, despite the similar basically 0% odds that JMU were facing in regulation time, they still at least tried. Are you trolling bro? It was almost the exact same situation. JMU shouldn't have been able to come back 5 points in less than 4 seconds, but they did. I wouldn't be ragging on Kent State for not trying to do it in a normal game, but they LITERALLY just saw JMU do it. You would have thought they would at least try.
@@cooperhaney3949 the clock literally runs as they grab the rebound plus as the ball is being passed up the court. That takes way longer than .8 seconds.. The clock didn’t start till the JMU guy caught it because it was an inbound..
@Mosin_4_Life Bro, I literally played college basketball. My coach would have gotten pissed if we didn't give it a try, especially having seen JMU do it minutes ago. Guy grabs the rebound, turns, and immediately throws it like a shortstop to his guy posted up for 3, that would take 0.8 seconds. I never said they could make it happen. They would basically 99.999999% lose anyway, but they didn't even try. I reckon they will be doing a ton of lines at practice tomorrow, not just for blowing the lead in regulation but for that, as well. I will repeat: It's a difference in mentality between the teams.

I don't know, I thought the screener stuck his elbow out beyond the frame of his body and chucked the defender. That one could have easily been called.

@@daltontannery3243 yes, but also extended forearm and elbow to the defender's torso. And the screener moved slightly to his right to lean into it. The defender embellished the contact to be sure. But I thought there was enough contact for a foul.

What I found most interesting about this was that at the end of OT, Kent St. just gave up. At the end of regulation, w/ 3.8 seconds left, JMU hit the three, got the offensive foul, then scored again at the buzzer. Kent St. had 4.6 seconds, JMU didn't seem to be playing much D, and they basically didn't try to make a bucket. That seemed rather odd.

How do you lose this game if you're Kent State? You commit one horrible offensive foul and play atrocious inbound defense at the worst possible time.
#22 set a great pick on the inbounds play for JMU. I think it's hard to fault them for atrocious defense. The offensive foul, however, was inexcusable, especially with a timeout in their back pocket. Heck, I think Kent State chucking the ball down the court (provided someone touches it) would've been a better outcome for them than the offensive foul.
You're right about the rest, but the inbounds defense is pretty bad. Look at #1 on white. teammate gets picked and he doesn't hedge or switch which is just lazy. In this situation you're typically instructed to switch everything or go zone. #0 gets cleared out. The guy defending the ball should be forcing the pass away from the basket knowing with 1.2 seconds left most teams want to get something going towards the rim. Overall they concede an uncontested layup. Couldn't get much worse. @@jonpredicts9731

I have a son at JMU and a son at Arizona. It's has been an awesome football fall (let JMU play in a bowl, just not against Arizona!) and it will be an awesome basketball winter! Last night was an amazing game and we were playing the end of regulation and the OTs missing three starters. Now, Arizona at Duke tonight, UConn at JMU tomorrow and Arizona crushing Colorado (unfortunately, both football games are at the same time). Go, Dukes! Bear Down!

I was watching this game live and everyone was so sure Kent State had won. That 3-pt shot was absolutely insane capped with a game tying basket by the same player. What wasn't shown here was that James Madison was up 6 with 54 seconds left in the first overtime and Kent State tied the game up to send it to double overtime. Insane game and glad that I caught it.

I don't understand the inbounds play close to the basket. Just throw the ball to the other end of the court. Coaches just won't do something so obvious. The first coach who does will be hailed as a genius.
