  • The plans for the world's largest airplane, named the WindRunner, have been revealed by the Colorado-based energy company Radia. The gigantic cargo carrier airplane is to be 356 feet long and 79 feet tall with a wingspan of 261 feet. To put things in perspective, the world's largest airplane is nearly as long as a regulation NFL football field and is 106 feet longer than the Boeing 747, the world's largest passenger plane. Energy company Radia, which designed the huge aircraft, said that the WindRunner will revolutionize the field of renewable energy by becoming one of the most efficient means of transporting the world's largest onshore wind turbines, estimated to be over 330 feet long. The airplane has a potential carrying capacity of 80 tons and will be able to hold around 12 times more weight than a Boeing 747. However, a runway around 6,000 feet long will be needed to accommodate the massive size of the WindRunner airplane. The WindRunner could also be used in transporting heavy military equipment and machinery. The company estimates that the WindRunner will be ready for use in just four years.
