On August 22nd, 2006 J Dilla’s ‘The Shining’ will serve as a testament to the fact that legends never die.
On February 10th, 2006, the world of Hip Hop lost J Dilla aka Jay Dee.
James ‘J Dilla’ Yancey leaves behind an impression on Hip Hop that will last the test of time. A bridge between Hip Hop’s underground and mainstream, Dilla’s contributions ranged from single handedly defining Detroit Hip Hop as a founding member of Slum Village to providing his production talents to Common, D’Angelo, Busta Rhymes, Erykah Badu, A Tribe Called Quest, The Pharcyde, The Roots, Janet Jackson and Macy Gray.
The Shining marked the reunion of J Dilla & BBE, who had released Welcome 2 Detroit, J Dilla’s debut album. The Shining serves as showcase of J Dilla’s talents which features him not only as a producer, but also as a rapper, singer and musician. Featured guests on this album include Busta Rhymes, Common, Pharoahe Monch, D’Angelo, Madlib, Black Thought, Medaphor aka MED, and Guilty Simpson. ...

I love how off kilter this beat is. Reminds me a lot of shouts

I'ma drop one of my old rhymes on this throwback beat. Fuck whoever talk shit....
    Verse 1:
The nominal rapper is momentarily prominent
    it's the 10th, the 7th and the 1st consonant
or the 13th, the 10th and the 2nd alphabet
realize that's my initials then you is all set
which is M to the J, the J to the B
    the incognito rising illest emcee
the lyrical head knocker, the hot rhyme dropper
commercial show stopper and amateur beatboxer
also the peacekeeper and never a gun buster
I ain't breakin' my language like Smoothe The Hustler
this is another freestyle for y'all to vibe to
if you been told that I ain't nice then you been lied to
    Verse 2:
Compare me to 'The Riddler' totally enigmatic
lyrics is puzzling but the flow is charismatic
verses come in more packs than my abdominal
jottin' down the joints that come out so phenomenal
    rupturing your medula oblingata
everytime I touch the pen the rhymes come out hotter
your mind's corrupted by all this commercialism
it defects your optic just like astigmatism
droppin' nod factors no rookie can do this
it takes mad skills just like Shaquan Lewis
    I'm the most reputable, inscrutable
lyrically indisputable, in hip hop I should be suitable
for droppin' these rhymes that come out so beautiful
you're perplexed by my jazzy verbalizations
keepin' it simple is probably your expectation
speaking transcendentally I find it very fun
but if I got y'all thinking then my job is done
