We saw the latest Commander last week and it has had just a few tweaks based on our feedback from this test. It is even better! Seriously good van and has everything you’d want as standard
Nice vid mate, some unsolicited advice, we have a SWAG SCT16 full height van which has a very similar awning to the commander. Even with a steep angle on the canvas of the awning, if it rains really hard it will end up causing the canvas to sag, and if your not around to push the canvas up to get rid of the water, it will collapse. This is why you need to ensure you always use the rafters, they push the canvas up to give it some shape and prevent this happening. I never used to bother until this happened to us on The Old Grafton Road. By the way, if your looking for a great spot to get some great footage, and take your van, The Old Grafton Road is not that far away, and a stunning location. Access from the top of the range at the Gwydir Highway, take your van down The Old Grafton Road to The Mann River Nature Reserve where you can setup and unhook. Then explore the rest of the road without the van, there is loads of history from the gold mining days like Dalmorton, which is a ghost town, and a convict tunnel to check out. If you have a look at my videos you’ll see some footage I took of the area 👍
Seems well priced, but appears overweight which is a problem with some other Jawa vans too. Numbers suggest the core materials used are too heavy. Ant is correct, with a Tare Mass: 2570KG, Ball Weight: 250KG and an ATM of: 2990KG, suggests the copious storage can’t be used to its fullest. Revisit some of the materials used, and aim for a TARE of 2,000kg.

That front window is great but I’d be worried about stone’s hitting it on gravel roads. But awesome van i will be checking them out as we are looking for a hybrid van soon.
Another great video. Jawa seem to be putting out some good products. But, there is always a but, the placement of the microwave is in my view a recipe for a very bad disaster. To take something which is potentially very, very hot at head level is not ideal. Hell I worry about taking my microwaved cooked goodies at about waist level at times. Have seen this on some other vans and I really believe microwaves and any other cooker/stoves should not be above about waist high....just saying as it would be very easy to spill a very hot liquid at that level with not very good outcome.

Ant, love this van, but weights are going to be the problem here. At 15ft, to have a tare of 2570 and only 420kgs of payload is crazy..they've got to reduce the weight a bit
I feel like your inside cooking and then you have to take dishes outside in the weather to wash them? I love the specs and hard top and set up bed. Also not keen on toilet / shower combo in a van. Is it a van or expensive hybrid? Definitely some positives but not sold on it.
That’s the key question- caravan or hybrid…. Been asking ourselves this since picking it up…. Google definition was combining the off-road capability of a camper trailer with the basic luxury of a caravan….. so by that definition, it is a hybrid. TBH, I still don’t know. It certainly runs full off-road suspension and external setup. I wouldn’t take it some places we took our Infinity or say the Stealth, simply because of the height of the solid. I would have ripped the roof off on a few tracks that we’ve done to get to camp sites…. The other challenge to getting deep off-road is the extra weight. I can think of a few beach entries that would be pretty challenging with this big one on. In saying that though, it is perfect for dirt roads, tidal beach runs and corrugated tracks. Just depends on how hardcore you choose to push it. As for the feedback on cooking and ensuite- good news, there will be a sink in future models. The guys had to throw the internal 3 burner in to fill the gap for us to take the van out to test. There will be a dual burner and sink in that space moving forward. We also agree on seperate shower and toilet, but would like to see the van stretched to 16 foot to accommodate that. Would need to reduce weight in a few spots to make the stretch possible, but I reckon that could be achieved easily.

Definitely want seperate shower and toilet. Glad to hear there would be a sink inside in future models but would have to be on the other side ? Not sure .. anyway good hybrid / caravan. Thanks Toni! On the fly fan, we used it a lot less than we thought we would… it has helped a couple of times though. You probably won’t miss it if you don’t get one. Opposite to the thermocell mozzie zapper, that goes on all the time
Not sure if it’s been asked before but what type of hitch do you have? We have a D035 hitch on our van and are looking for a heavy duty hitch for the 300
@@cathg7323 I know Jawa we’re working with their engineers to lock it down. As this is the first production model in the country, it hasn’t been fully locked. Question for them mate, but can’t see it being more than 3100 with a single axle
Great vid as usual, camp site and bird sanctuary looks amazing. Have marked it down for when we finally head north, we have a Sirocco on order. Agree. Jawa never short on storage but you’ll have to fill it with pool noodles as if you’d fill those storage cupboards you’ll be overweight .

Yes but that would be more reasonable for fulltime living. Lucky we are not ready to order just yet so will wait and see.
