Jj is right. The less moving parts you have to have to do the right thing, the less likely it will work out. Luka alone will need less things to go right for him to set up a shot. Its about clutch at end of game, every part , movement, and second counts
Not in this situation bc he is involving someone who is not o ya the greatest shooter but can open and create a shot when it doesnât matter if your taller than him he can and will still make the shot regardless and do it more than once when he is on a roll
Steph leading the playoffs in 4th quarter points on 50/40/90 split and is +43 heâs more clutch than Luka how many times have we seen him send teams to sleep this playoffs?

I love this, hahahahaha, check it, Riddick and S.A. Smith had Bev sitting there like me, listening, smiling, and not much to say. He was enjoying the show while on the show. That's awe for Bev.
JJ has a point. Stephen A. Smith had to choose his argument carefully and said well âsteph doesnât need those people to get involved to get his shot offâ but JJâs point was steph doesnât do what Stephen is arguing in late game situations.
Literally his last game winner against the rockets was a âgive him the ball and go scoreâ type of play. This systems narrative is false.
@@danieljblagroveYou can't use anything against this year's Rockets as an argument, they sucked.
@@peterz6497 sure I can. They made a game plan and they executed. Furthermore, look at all of Steph Curryâs game winners. Almost HALF of time were against the Mavericks over the years. That matters.
@@peterz6497 This is the kind of casual nonsense that I love to see. So many people ignore the fact that Steph has be legitimately lethal, and it's the same problem that Tom Brady had. Everyone goes out of their way to say, "Oh it's just the system that makes him look good," even though he spent the majority of his career balling out and being a threat from anywhere inside of the half-court line.
This is not even an argument. Steph all day any day. Luka is not consistent when it comes to shooting. He can get on a hot streak but Curry is automatic from downtown an taking it to the hoop.

I'm with JJ here. Size definitely matters. Steph can attack the basket too but he's more prone to be in an inescapable situation or get blocked.
Only disadvantage of Luka that I can see is when he gets fouled and shoots the free throws.
Also, you don't really give the ball to Steph, you let him move without the ball and find him in the right time at the right position :)
Steph need pick and roll or open shot, Luka dont
Steph already went to 6 conference finals and you all think Luka who just made it for the 1st time be the better closer than Steph? Lmao

Okay this playoffs and they arenât talking about 4th quarter points. Steph has always been on the floor at the end of the game but heâs also missed a lot of clutch shots or just not shown up. The only other player that hit clutch shots was Otto Porter Jr but his shots were earlier in the 4th to keep the warriors in the game, whereas Curry took over making shots to put the warriors up and hitting 8 STRAIGHT CLUTCH FREETHROWS whenever the Grizzlies tried to gain some momentum to comeback .

Iâm picking Luka over Steph too. Doesnât mean Luka is a better shooter but every time Steph has to take that last shot heâs heavily contested and the rest of the team is scrambling. It happened in the finals against the raptors.
I agree with your take.. only reason why I would pick luka for the last shot is solely because he is such a crafty shot creator.. the amount of times heâs created space to shoot such a good shot is crazy, but letâs not take nothing from curry.. He is by far the best shooter the NBA has ever witnessed
Yup its not about being a better shooter, it's about whose gonna get you the bucket
Biggest example its when K Love locked him down in 2016. Luka would have been able to score in the situation I believe
Yall high as a Kite. Luka has gotten to the WCF for the first time of his career now he's better in the clutch in huge situations??? Yall being prisoners of the moment. Yall definitely forgot of all the HUGE clutch playoff moments that Steph had to get to the finals. Y'all crazy
@@ephraimlatson Iâm not a prisoner of the moment, Steph only has 5 more game winners than Luka and heâs been in the league 9 years longer. Luka is taller, a great shotmaker and passer. Plus the last few instances Curry had to take the last shot in the playoffs he had 4 people guarding him and he had to either had to pass to Iggy or Draymond or he missed. Plus this video is talking about right now so we have to be in the moment just a little.
I see what JJ is saying, he's saying you can give Luka the ball in the last two minutes. I'd love Steph but I love Luka

Something that I notice, there are lots of times when Steph hits a big shot and it seems like a game winner but somebody on the other end ends up winning the game for their team because of mistakes on defense end for the warriors, but thatâs just something that I noticed
Thatâs cap. When? What time? The nba is not college basketball
Stop the cap. Steph has missed so much game winners and clutch opportunities.
What I mean is like for example, when they lost against the nuggets. Steph hit a big shot, plus the foul. Made the free throw, but as soon as you would think it would be game, Monte Morris hits the three at the buzzer to win. Or the time they lost to the heat. Steph putting moves on Chalmers, scoring and the foul. Up by two, then Lebron hits the three over Iggy. Thatâs what I mean, when you think Steph hits the game winner then someone on the other hits a bigger shot to win the game, duh. I know heâs had missed opportunities but thatâs not specifically what Iâm talking about
@@isaiahhill6373 Basically what u are saying is the curry haters have no reason not to call him clutch⊠my question is do they forget the series against Portland? Or maybe the rockets while down 2-1 or maybe when they were down 3-1 to okc smh
@@Yosoyjustin2700 ok but if you Compare that to Luka itâs a little different because Luka has only played four years and Stephen Curry has played a lot more years and a lot more seasons obviously. So therefore itâs going to seem like he has missed a lot more shots. So really you cannot compare because Luka has not necessarily played enough to see his production in big time moments. And I mean it is two different offensive systems⊠Steph Curry does not have to always make big time shots for his team because he has a bunch of shooters around him. The ball always goes and Lukas hand so how do we know if you put Steph Curry in Lukas system he wouldnât just go out there in and make every single game winner? Just a thought.
JJ is right. Steph has been historically bad in clutch situations especially in the playoffs. Dude couldn't even get a decent shot off on Kevin Love in the finals
Them switches was vital that year.
You do know he severely hyperextended his knee right before the 2016 playoffs and missed the 1st round and half the 2nd round, but once again it's team ball...Kerr and Paxton are just as clutch as Jordan is in the playoffs because he passed the rock when they finally started winning Championships... The media lied a lot about Curry's clutch ability, especially since the 2016 Finals. And Max's "I want Igoudala" line is well known and should be a title for that narrative. The answer is obviously Steph. Why, because you make the defense focus on him. Look at OKC in 2016 WCF. The Cavs in 2015 Finals. More recently the the Blazers and Rockets in 2019 plus this season the Grizzlies in game.
What people want is an iconic shot like vs Pelicans to tie the game or whatever Michael Jordan did. They make up parameters like final shot with 24 seconds left in a 1 possession game, but if we're using JJ's definition of final 2 minutes and you need a closer, Steph Curry meets the criteria and is better than Doncic.
He simply doesn't. He's mental is not built like that. Go back and see it time and time again. I just watched it a couple of days ago in the first game they lost to the Grizzlies if I don't remember incorrectly. I love Curry man, in my book he's the best point guard ever, that's just how I feel about it. But with the game on the line, that is not the guy I would prefer with the ball in his hands. People don't understand how good Luka is. He's been dogging grown men since he was 15-16 in Real Madrid. Just appreciate the art for once, stop being blinded.
That's cap
@@jeremiahsmith7706 his clutch stats clears lukas in these playoffs
@@chicagorainydayz3611 Luka has multiple Game-winning shots including one in the playoffs against the Clippers. He's someone you don't want with the ball in their hands in the clutch. That's what JJ is talking about. Can Steph win you the game in the last few seconds, last few minutes. He's clutch, but let's not act like he's a killer. Luka is. They're giving Steph the benefit of the doubt because he's the best shooter. That don't necessarily make him a clutch shooter. A guy who can hit a walk off buzzer beater. That guy is Luka
@@jeremiahsmith7706 steph has MORE game winners than luka. Luka shot 20% in the 4th quarters of last year playoffs, this year heâs shooting 45% with 5 ppg. Steph shooting 53% in the 4th quarters with 9 ppg. Case closed
Highest rated First Take in year's. Pat Bev is the future for ESPN talk shows. Ratings have been thru the roof the past 2 days with Pat Bev on show.
I like his honesty on topics but just can't stand him. Dude thinks he's like an all star level player when he's avergae.
I think JJ is right, most of the time you would take steph for any shot making ability but in the clutch luka has had more success this season, but with pressure of an NBA conference championship on the line makes this debate different from just a regular season game. So idk who Iâd rather have in the clutch in the playoffs, even tho Iâd take luka 100% in the regular season
Edit: steph has more playoff experience which makes the scenarios different
Please keep Pat Bev on guys!! I know the ratings have been up the last couple days. But someone somewhere will say "Analytics" was the reason. Keep Pat Bev
Imagine being as intelligent as JJ Reddick, and wake up in the morning knowing that you gotta talk to Stephen A for 2 hours.
Hahaha

I like how realistic the debates are now. This how it really be at work and the Barbra shop
curry has been my favorite player to watch for the last few years but he's been prone to gettin locked up on defense in clutch situations simply because of his smaller size, Kevin love shut him down a number of times down the stretch in the finals, curry thrives within the chaos of the fast break and off screens. he can def create his own shot but it hasn't always been his strong point at all
JJ always makes fun of analystâs being prisoners of the moment yet JJ doeâs it the most.
Luka been playing this good for a while not like he was playing with clippers he just better supporting players now tbh
Yea JJ w!s so tied to stats in this exchange and got heated when Stephen A disregarded them
Luka 2 game winners against Boston, game winner against Memphis, 2 passes to Dinwiddie for game winners, game tying shot at the buzzer against Portland, game winner against Clipps in the playoffs. Iâm probably missing some.
@@sehlordhorr8540 you are talking about REGULAR SEASON game winners. If you are talking about that, lets talk about Curry's game winner in the regular season. Just against Dallas, Curry has made 3 GAME WINNERS. The next team that has suffered Curry's wrath in the clutch has been the Clippers. Curry has hit a game winner on the Rockets, he has also hit a game winner on KD and Russ, which was one of the deadliest game winners ever. This is just off the top of my head. If you are talking regular season game winners, Luka does not come close to Curry. If you are talking playoffs, Luka STILL does not come close to Curry. Luka has just made it past the first and second round. Curry has done this 5 straight times, you don't make it to the finals and potentially win 3 chips by not being clutch.
@@TeslaElectricCars Luka had a game winning buzzer beater in his 4th playoff game. He didnât have to hit a game winner against the 64 win Suns in game 7 bc he beat the spirit out of âem before the 4th quarter started. Steph wasnât clutch when they blew that 73-9 season. He missed lots of shots down the stretch with that ring on the line. He probably doesnât win the first ring without the injuries to the Cavs. And then KD came along to tilt the scales, winning 2 Finals MVPs. Luka Doncic has averaged 33.5 points, 9.5 assists and 8.8 rebounds in 13 games in the playoffs versus the Kawhi Leonard led Clippers. He took those way more talented Clippers teams to 13 out of a possible 14 games. Luka is as big stage as it gets. Certainly more so than Steph. And the end of this 23 year olds career will reflect this.
JJ Knows what heâs talking aboutâŠ. They keep dancing around the initial question âwith the game on the lineâ Luka has and will always be more clutch. Curry is definitely more dangerous through the game tho. Nothing worse then hearing people who canât shoot arguing with a top shooter about these topics.
Actually Curry leads the nba with go ahead points in nba history
But Luka is a monster
Well Steph is THE top shooter and YOU aren't choosing Steph, so wouldn't that be a hypocritical statement to mention their lack of shooting compared to JJ shooting? Steph is a better shooter than the person you said knows the most about that situation because he's a better shooter than them... Steph shoots better than them, JJ AND Luka... Luka is an average shooter compared to Steph
Actually, I'd rather have the ball in Klay Thompson's hands with the game on the line.

These 3 are great to watch...
Should have brought up the release time tbh, Steph gets the ball off so fast he needs 3 seconds and 95 percent of the league is not gonna contest it well
Pat waited to see what Stephen Aâs answer is, just so he can go at JJ đ€Łđ€Ł
If itâs to create a shot Iâm taking luka without questions . If itâs to hit a shot with no dribble itâs curry easy
Curry can create a shot with or without the ball and nobody factors in on the teams... Ppl have to guard their man when dealing with the Warriors because they're loaded with shooters which will leave Curry in a 1v1 situation while Luka ain't really got the shooters the warriors have, so he'll be double teamed
Curry hasnât hit many shots with no dribble at the end of the game. Heâs historically not as good in the clutch then he usually is and that isnât being talked about enough

Haven't watch ESPN since Max Kellerman; but it's coming back.. Good guest hope TNT brings some more guest.
Agree 100% with J.J. Steph has had clutch moments in his career, yes, but more often than not, in the clutch, Steph has failed. I would take a lot of players over Steph in the clutch
Stop it
Only reason he's not getting enough clutch situations is bc most of the time he and his team blown out opponents by 20 or more.
