I like how casey doesn't explain the little things in his vlog.. Like when he goes to a meeting or when he wakes up, he won't explain what he's doing for the next 12+hours...he just does it... I believe as soon as one of these is filed an inventor has a year of protection to get a patent filed while still being able to discuss the invention publicly. Seems perfect in this case, but I'm not a patent attorney. Anyway, love the vlog.
provisional patents dont exist for one. Its provisional applications and they take time. It must be filed a year before the actual patent and it only allows you to say patent pending. It does not protect against anything
Provisional patent applications (as I said in the first place) allow you one year to file a patent. If someone copies your invention in that year AND you get a patent you can stop them from practicing your invention.
All a provisional APPLICATION does is capture a filing date the benefit of which can be claimed for a later filed full Utility Patent Application. For all the good it would do you, you can say patent pending for up to 1 year from the provisional filing date. you can really stop people from practicing it.

Good summary, but I don't think it's the patent trolls (the ones discussed on Last Week Tonight as I suspect you saw) that are hindering Casey from talking about his business. It's probably more about patent laws in general

They may seem completely irrelevant to others, but I think highest unknown quality of Casey's storytelling is his nearly-complex vocabulary that adds interest to almost any sort of normal task or activity. Especially for a person that dropped out of high school, not that closes opportunity.

Do you ever get scared of your equipment just leaving them unattended for a couple of seconds in the street? And what would you do if a guy steals your camera just before you arrive to it?
