It's ridiculous! The Angels were smart to merely renovate their stadium at age 33, instead of building a new one. By contrast, Cincy's Riverfront stadium only lasted from 1970-2002, and they went in for a whole new one. Not smart! But TX takes the cake: Arlington only lasted from 1972-1993 (21 years), Globe Life from 1994-2019 (25 years), and now they have a new one, opened four years ago already--so they must be thinking it's look'n old.

I had the opportunity To visit PHX last year in April & it was awesome ! Got to see the Dbacks play against the padres at chase field & I had a great experience. Gallen pitched and the D’backs shut out the Padres and the crowd was absolutely electrified ⚡️ chase was jammed packed with padres fans lol As a Mets fan I love chase field and went it was built in the 90s they changed the game with the pool in the outfield. Very cool feature. I love the large pitcher friendly dimensions and the high 20 foot wall in dead center at 407 feet from home plate gives you a challenge to smack one over it. I love how they never changed their dimensions. The food and beer wasn’t over priced and the tickets 🎫 are good price for great seats. Yes the upper deck is a bit superfluous and it makes chase cavernous but I’m sure they can just conduct some renovations to it. They had the roof open the evening I attended the game and it was about 90 degrees during the day maybe 82 game time and it dropped to about high 60s at night and they left the roof completely open which was dope. Also PHX has a decent light rail system which got me around town pretty good especially from the airport. Chase field has a great location in downtown PHX and hopefully they won’t leave. I would love to go back and watch them play my Mets one day.

Not practical. Not every owner is Stan Kroenke and can afford to build on their own dime. The other thing is, financially speaking, there are very few cities where you can build a privately financed stadium and make a guaranteed profit because events AND corporate money will go there no matter what (LA and New York and Miami). That leaves very few other cities where municipalities HAVE TO provide public funding for their stadiums in some form.
The big conundrum, that is also not practical, is figuring out what to do one multiple parties want new facilities at the same time. It's easy when, say, the Colts need a new stadium and they're the only pro team that needs a new massive home at the time. It's another thing when, say, both the Bears and the White Sox need new stadiums basically in the same neighborhood, lol, and the state, county, and city leadership in Illinois has to figure out how to help them.

@@maxkeebs4425 It is 100% practical. The Giants funded their own stadium by taking out a 20 year loan. The rest was funded with PSL and advertising. The City didn't pay a dime for that stadium and have no obligations towards it. They did some minor street improvements and added public transit which was going in anyway. Other owners can do exactly the same. To say they can't do it is just total and utter bull honky. Other owners just want a free handout and don't want to take on debt. Most to the time with a new building the value of the franchise goes up. Raiders have more then doubled in value and Davis got a free handout. And by the way the Giants won 3 WS got to another when they were still paying off that loan.

@@805fillmore I’m a bit more old-school. 100 years ago, these teams bought the land and built their own facilities… then after WWII… suddenly they started holding cities hostage. Recently though, I’ve started seeing a few cities that are starting to wake up and stop playing that game… the teams need them more than the cities need the teams.. the reason why some NFL teams are building their own stadiums.. MLB cities need to push that.. when these cities realize that if the team builds…. they have a harder time walking away from their equity… Major sports teams, they get that new stadium/arena.. when the first lease is up.. back to the threats.. that cycle needs to end.

It was reported that the terms of the lease state that the team has the right to relocate if the stadium district does not maintain the stadium to the standards of the top x-number MLB stadiums. When asked if the team would leave without renovations the team said it was something they would have to explore. WOW! What a threat. You make it sound like a scene from the Godfather...."either your signature or your brains will be on that contract." If you don't pay your rent you get evicted. Is that a threat? No. It's the reality of the lease.

This story plays throughout America, even at the minor league level. Cites will build a new stadium to LAND or KEEP a pro team, but then won't spend a cent to sustain or maintain them. Cities or counties are the landlords, the pro teams are just tenants. When you lease is expiring your landlord will most likely offer improvements to the property to get you to sign a new lease. The expenses will be recouped with the new lease. The proof is in the pudding, you only need to google images of the recently built Hodgetown in Amarillo and the former Potter County Memorial Stadium built after World War II... Amarillo spent 38 years in purgatory without affiliated minor league baseball before the new stadium landed another affiliated team...
