- I was thinking I will not up load this video but one of my goal is to leave gorillas life record for future generations since gorillas are endangered species and a lot of people may not able to see them in future.

🎀 Note: as you know, most of time, Frank stay in a corner and stay alone. Most of time Frank is good boy he has good behavior.
Keepers understand very well and Frank went back to room early this day and separate from family.
In bedroom, Frank has no place to escape so he is really good boy but they can also separate room in bedroom too.
🌟 Frank hit Winston's back this morning and after that Winston was chasing and attempt to revenge Frank. Monroe stopped Winston, but Winston didn't quit.
Finally Frank has pushed Winston down.

Will always love this family & I know that this is just the way of gorillas. I don't believe Frank had any hatred in his heart for Winston. He is just a young male trying to prove himself. Really think that he's been kept with the family too long. If they continue to keep them together, either Winston will get seriously injured, the ladies will lose respect for Winston, or both. Frank is still a sweetheart. He's just doing what young silverbacks do.

I absolutely love how his family sticks right by him after he gets pushed down making sure to reassure him that they know he's still boss that little guy over there he's showing off he's trying to take his position but all the other ones they're not having it
The other Troop members are concerned and protective of the old guy alright and that was quite nice to see their concern, however, if this happened in an environment where there were dangers to the Troop, Frank would now be the head Silverback that they would look to him for protection and he would be who they held as patriarch so this would be the end of Winston’s reign likely, unless as I saw in a comment above, that Winston was suffering from Covid, at the time of this video, so if that is true and he recovers well, there is possibly going to be more confrontations if he tries to reclaim his status in the Troop, so not a happy situation for this old Silverback likely.

He is old. In nature, he would have been evicted.
That is how nature works. That family would not / could not survive with an old/weak leader.
(In captivity he is allowed to live longer as a leader and get away with it.)

I just love Winston. Such a loving caring patriarch. Well respected by all members of his troop, with the exception of Frank, who is desperately trying to challenge Winston, with little acknowledgment. He is not earning respect from the others, Winston is well-loved and will remain a leader.
It's time Frank, runs his own house and leaves Winston to live his life in peace. He is too old and frail to deal with a strong young boy like, Frank, just being hormonal and doing what gorillas do.
We see it as disrespect, but this is normal in the gorilla world to challenge for control. Only Winston is well-loved and his family all protect him regardless.
So, Frank needs to be given a wife and run his own Domaine. Its time. I think it will settle his hormones a bit too.🤒

Watching it again, it really was touching how the rest of the Troop gathered around Winston after he got body slammed by Frank, Winston did look like he got the breath knocked out of him and was thinking 'I'm getting to old for this S***' and I still crack up at Frank running to the other side of the enclosure afterwards and hiding - lol - he knew what he did.
I feel the same way.

Frank was antagonizing Winston nonstop. Move him out of there! To sit and watch it happen is cruel, and abuse.
This breaks my heart it's like young adult teenager challenging and pushing over an his own old man, Winston might be the boss leader but he's now an old man.
Poor Winston. This is the first time I saw the footage of Frank knocking down Winston. Im so glad they moved him now. You can see how the family has backed up Winston and Frank is feeling isolated.

Paul Donn's son is a very dominant male. Now he knows that Winston isn't that strong. That is why the whole family is trying to shield him from Frank. I don't think Winston will win against Frank even with Monroe fighting beside him. Instead of taking Frank and Monroe away, the zoo could also put Winston and Kamilah both in their own enclosure for retirement. It will give both of them the peace that older beings want. Just a thought. After all, Frank isn't related to any of them by blood except Kamilah (his grandmother).

The way they circled around Winston in concern 🥺Especially Leslie, they were all so worried! That fall really isn’t one that a gorilla near 50 should take. I hope they relocate Frank to a good home soon, where he can have healthy competition with other friends or build a family 💕 I know they were waiting for Monroe but it doesn’t look like Frank can wait that long anymore. I think they should transfer him to the bachelor group in L.A. for the time being. There are two mature silverbacks and another one the same age as Frank. That way he won't have to be alone.

It was good to see the rest of the troop show some solidarity with Winston after he was pushed. I am not particularly knowledgeable about Gorillas but surely they need to move Frank before anything serious happens. Let the old silverback see out his days with some dignity and peace, he is too old to be fighting and taking bashings like this.

ウィンストンとコカモの喧嘩の原因はハッキリ分かりませんが おっしゃる通りウィンストンの機嫌が悪く八つ当たりもあるように思います。
モンローがウィンストンを怒ってるので、モンローはいつも喧嘩を始めた悪い方を怒るので 彼の反応で コカモが始めたのではないのが分かりますね^_^
フランクは時々やんちゃですが 一度家族から離れたらもう2度と会えないので 本当に辛い時期です。恐らく今年中にはフランクは完全に離れると思います。

I always wonder what kind of mental changes that happen to them. It's always hard to tell how much nature can take over nurture in the gorillas as they act human most of the time. There have been plenty of gorillas older than Frank who didn't attack their leaders, especially if their leaders raised them. Frank was raised/protected by Winston for 8 years, so seeing that Frank 'can't help' but be aggressive is disheartening, regardless of their previous relationship. The need to prove himself now when a few years ago there was no such need.

Since they are in captivity it's time for the humans to step in so this doesn't happen again. Now that Frank knows he can, this could Escalate into something that nobody wants to see happen. These are gorillas, not humans. Only humans attack others because of hate and wanting to harm and defiance for the sake of anger. These gorillas will eventually modify their behavior.
The zoo staff can't and won't interfere with the behavior of the animals. What Frank is doing is called "challenging", it simply means he's a sexually mature adult, wants access to the females, and knows his father is in the way of that. However, that doesn't mean Frank is going to out and out murder his father one night. It just means Winston may be getting too weak to defend his position and Frank could eventually take over, when and if, Winston submits. Since Frank is his son, it's possible that could happen. They're not strangers to each other, they recognize one another for who they are. Frank will be moved when they find females to pair him with or a bachelor troop to go to. Until then, it's not the job of zoo staff to interfere with the natural behavior of the animals. They could get seriously hurt if they even attempted to. And don't make the suggestion to just tranquilize the animal. Gorillas can easily pull out a tranq dart before the medication even takes affect. It's not easy to watch, but these aren't chimps. Power struggles generally don't lead to death in members who are related, only in gorillas who aren't already part of the troop, and even then, it's rare. Frank is just testing the waters and seeing how much he can get away with. He knows his limits. Gorillas aren't naturally violent creatures. Strong, powerful, and able to easily demonstrate that power? Yes. Violent, no. Like I said, it's not a chimp troop where power struggles can and do lead to death, even among family members. Gorillas are peaceful the majority of the time.

It seems reasonable to me that those in charge of keeping these lovely creatures as well as volunteers, have invested untold time an sentiment in their well-being. Their motives are unimpeachable. Life management is fluid, under constant review. After viewing the troop today for the first time and later viewing the video, again it seems reasonable to me that appropriate changes had been put into affect for the welfare of all these gorillas. That was very upsetting to watch. He wasn't looking each time Frank charged & attacked. Frank ran full speed at Winston from about 40 meters. That would knock anyone over. He got up quickly. But the way he held his arm after & had to walk away vs chase & fight lets me know that blow stunned him. Winston is strong. He just doesn't have the agility he used to have. I hope he recovers soon, gets his revenge & restores order. Frank is getting more brazen but he still runs right away showing he's immature.

Wow, hadn't seen this until now Grace! This explains why Frank is being kept separate from the Troop. Sure don't want Winston hurt! Last week on Thursday morning Frank picked on Monroe and bit him on the rear end! Monroe cried twice! Then they pulled Frank in for the rest of the day! We haven't been told what's happening with Frank yet but I doubt he will be with the Troop anymore.

@@GraceloveAnimals He should have been separated a long time ago. Total mismanagement of the gorilla troop by Zoo staff. Even lay people know that a troop can’t have more than 1 dominant silverback . It’s dangerous and irresponsible that this situation went on for as long as it did. Winston could have gotten seriously hurt and the reactions from the other gorillas was heartbreaking to watch. Question now that Frank has been separated how is the staff going to prevent the same situation from reoccurring with Monroe????
@@eaglesflyproud Depending on species, gorilla troops may have two silverbacks. In Eastern gorillas this is more common, with the second silverback usually being either a brother or an adult son. Three is more rare, but has been reported in the Virungas with three brothers leading a troop.
That said, the decision to move Frank was justified. Maybe with Monroe, but Monroe may have been a tad too young for the move.

Yes after this, they tried couple day Frank together with family but he did not changed and they make Frank separate from family after all and he is now bachelor. Time has come.
I hope Monroe can stay with Frank longer but he will miss family too so it is complex feeling.

Great video. I wonder how the zoo will handle this? In the wild, Winston would be too old to maintain being Alpha. On the other hand, it’s clear the troop doesn’t want Frank and the females especially. Frank would not become alpha in the wild.

@@PirateCommander They are located at San Diego Safari Park, San Diego, CA. I live an hour away, and am visiting Winston soon. I've loved Winston since way...way back when. Not sure how much the tickets are, but I'll have to check myself because I'm going to visit soon, as It may be the last time I see Winston at his ripe old age of 49. Winston is basically the matriarch silverback of the zoos having 9 children (three currently in this troop, Monroe, Joanne and Leslie his youngest) and 8 grandchildren (Frank being one grandchild is in another enclosure).

I'm sure it would get great figures if reality tv put an extended family of such humans in a concrete enclosure and chucked bananas and salad at them ?

They are polluting these animals with noise
This is the worst Gorilla habitat I’ve ever seen. The Gorillas are not protected from visitors, there are insects flying all over them. There is nothing for them to eat, and nothing to climb on. The habitat is dirty and it just awful. These animals have a right to eat plants, be insect free, have their habitat completely enclosed and they need equipment to climb and swing from.
Seems the “tossing of the trough” was a common enough occurrence to warrant a tethering device.

The front arms on the alpha or full low land gorilla are 34’’ on average the highland silverbacks they say can’t be contained they are larger than the lowland and supposedly a lot smarter
