When Futaba was first revealed for Persona 5 people were already making comparisons to inkling
Eddy Partida actually, This not the first time they used a spirit with the default costume. Game & Watch e Bowser Jr. already appeared in the some fights with their defaults forms.

Spirit References (Spoilers):
Morgana
- Pikachu & Morgana have the same JP voice actor
- Black Incineroar represents Zoro. He uses an ore club to launch tornados, because Morgana is Wind element based.
- The stage has strong wind effects to also reference Morgana's wind based abilities.
- You fight him on Mementos as that's the stage that most closely relates to Morgana.
Ryuji
- He's Captain Falcon because Falcon is a fast runner, and Ryuji used to be part of the track team.
- He starts with a baseball bat because Ryuji uses blunt weapons.
- Mii Gunner represents Ryuji's persona, Captain Kidd.
An
- Red Zero Suit most closely matches her phantom thief costume. She also uses a whip, which An wields in P5.
- Carmen is represented by red Peach. She spawns with a fire flower to reference An's fire affinity.
- You fight her on the inner portion of Castle Siege, because you first get An in Kamoshida's Castle.
Yusuke
- Yusuke and Chrom are both voiced by Tomokazu Sugita. They are also both voiced by Matthew Mercer in English. Chrom also most closely matches Yusuke's appearance.
- Goemon is represented by King DeDeDe.
- You fight him on Ryu's Stage because it most closely resembles the Japanese Art Museum, which is where you recruit Yusuke in P5.
Makoto
- She is represented by black Sheik because Sheik uses hand to hand combat, so it's mostly due to appearance.
- Her Persona, Johanna, is a motorcycle. Thus it's represented by an invisible Wario who only spams sideB.
Futaba
- Inkling girl looks a lot like Futaba.
- Dr. Wily rides in a spaceship, so he represents Futaba's persona, Necronomicon.
- The galagas also represent Necronomicon since they're basically alien space ships too.
- You fight her on the desert Mario kingdom stage, since you recruit Futaba after completing the Sphinx area.
Haru
- She is represented by Villager, because both of them can plant stuff.
- Salads spawn frequently during her battle to reference her confidant ability to grow vegetables for you.
- Daisy represents her Persona. She starts with a superscope because her Persona has gun based abilities.
- You fight her on a rooftop, and Haru can be found on the school rooftop in game.
Akechi
- He's represented by a white Marth wielding a beam sword. Akechi has a white color scheme and wields a lightsaber in game.
- Rayguns spawn throughout the match, which was Akechi's gun weapon.
- Pit represents Akechi's persona, Robin Hood.
- Fourside is the stage that looks closest to the Casino, which is where you can use Akechi.
- The stage gimmick is that controls are reversed. This fits Akechi's personality.
The Twins
- Repped by blue ice climbers for obvious reasons.
- Fought on Kalos League to represent the Velvet Room.
- Sudden damage + Timed battle reference that they hit extremely hard in their special boss battle. Also if you take too long to win in P5, the twins insta kill you.
Igor
- Fought on Kalos League to represent the Velvet Room.
- Starting the battle damaged but healed over time may be a reference to the ending sequence in P5.
- The three blue Ridleys could be a reference to the 3 Angels before the final boss in P5, or a reference to three elevator attendants, I'm not sure.
- Assist trophies spawn probably to represent you summoning various personas.
Phantom Thieves
- Persona 5 has an anime called "The Day Breakers." Thus you have daybreak pieces spawning throughout the fight.
Few other references I missed.
- Morgana is Pikachu Libre as that's the only Pikachu skin wearing a mask.
- Haru is Villager because Villager can wield an axe, and that's her weapon in game.
- The Mii Gunner who supports Ryuji is wearing a pirate outfit to more closely reference Captain Kidd.
- Futaba's spirit battle has items gravitate toward her because she can scan maps for items and treasure in game.
- Most spirits reference their actual affinities. Ryuji buffs blunt weapons, Ann buffs fire, Makoto buffs fist strikes, etc.
Doesn't Akechi and Marth have the same voice actors, too?

Nope. Akechi is Robbie Daymond, while Marth is Yuri Lowenthal (who also voices Yosuke and Makoto Yūki)
Also Wario is wearing purple because he references Kaneshiro

I feel like the reason the individual thieves are novice or advanced spirits because on their own their not strong enough alone. However when they are together as team they become a legendary spirit.
Yeah, makes sense but YOU CAN'T ENHANCE THEM TO THEIR PHANTOM THIEF ATTIRE.
Doesn't make sense that Caroline and Justine and Igor are only Ace though. The velvet attendants are known to be extremely powerful, and Igor is said to be just as, if not more powerful than them. Also, not to disagree, I think that's a fine point, but why is Morgana an Ace then?
Igor is way stronger than his attendants by a long shot. When had to step out of the Velvet Room for Persona Q, the whole place threatened to completely come apart despite Elizabeth, Theodore, and Margaret pooling their power to keep it together in his place. No clues on what Lavenza was up to at the time, doubt she would’ve made much difference.

That may be also from her quote during her Persona's awakening where she says 'I'm gonna go full-throttle, non-stop!' If memory serves, Sheik is one of the faster characters in Smash? (at running speed)
Just thought of another thing: Sheik/Zelda being the holder of the Triforce of Wisdom, and Makoto is technically your second in command/tactician of the group...
I rather have a Lucario representing Makoto rather than Sheik.
The good thing about these spirits? No need to do that shooting mini-game for the spirit itself.
And if you fail to get them you can retry as much as you want.
Not to mention you can infinitely rematch them

Spoilers for P5 but I found this really cool and subtle regarding Akechi's spirit stage gimmick.
The stage gimmick for Akechi is that your controls are reversed. It seems like a completely random hazard, until you realize...

Because Wario is a stand-in for Kaneshiro and Makoto joins your party in Kaneshiro’s Palace.
It's definitely a stroke of luck that I could be so well represented by Chrom. We share the same voice actors and even look alike.

Really nice touch that they gave Futaba "Beneath the Mask" instead of "Last Surprise" since she's not directly involved in battles in P5.
I tried fighting the Phantom thieves of hearts and holy hell their synergy and teamwork are spot on. Morgana would knock me into ryuji who would knock me out with the home run bat. And don't get me started on joker. He's like a pro tournament player but an AI
I wish the ability for that spirit was better tho

Seriously, the phantom thieves being a lame support ticks me off. I get what they went for, but I want Joker to be viable for the final fight in WOL without dying challenge, but I need that STAB.
@@amh7912 The same series thing isn't a big deal. Ice Climbers and ROB have *no* Primary spirits.
@@jamesv337 Well, that's right for the most part. The series bonus gives you a significant bonus to your attack and defense multipliers. The bonus is of 10% to the raw stats (displayed in-game), which translates to a buff of a little less than 10% to the actual multipliers.
If you and your opponent are using the same Legendary Spirit (and same Supports) but they have the stat bonus while you don't, they will be dealing roughly 15% more damage than the one you deal to them.
This disadvantage is significant, but it can be offset if you play better than them.
This is usually the case when fighting against CPU's, since you can eventually get the job done with any Spirit Team.
But what I had in mind was battles with Spirits on against other players (either offline or in Arenas).
And yeah, it's pretty sad that lots of series lack a good Legendary Spirit. These include (apart from Persona) Animal Crossing, Wii Fit, Splatoon, Duck Hunt, and the ones you mentioned. If there ever was something like a Spirit meta, those characters would be at a disadvantage, while other would have a significant buff just from receiving a bonus from the best Spirits (as is the case with TLoZ, Castlevania, FIre Emblem, and Pokemon to name a few).

I have an idea for a Madarame spirit battle. The fighter will be yellow Ryu. The battle will start with 2 small yellow Kirbys, one slightly bigger yellow Kirby and one Giant yellow Kirby to reference Madarame's eyes, nose and mouth in painting form. After that 2 Ryus will appear with one being red and the other being blue. This would reference the skill Madarame uses in Royal where he creates copies of himself that have different elements. And then after that, one yellow Ryu will appear to reference regular Shadow Madarame.
I think Futaba actually being represented by the orange Inkling is cool. But it's also the first spirit battle besides unlocking the character to actually use a first slot costume.
I still wish they could have made a Futaba costume for Inkling. That would have been the bomb~
Actually, there are a few battles using mr g&w's default skin, and the shadow mario fight has default bowser jr, so futaba isn't the first

I finished watching the gameplay of Persona 5 and man was it something. For real?! I can't imagine how it took to made game like that.
I wish there were more persona spirits. I love trying to get all of the spirits but it took me only a half hour to get them. Hopefully Nintendo will add more spirits.
There should have been a few spirits for Personas 3 & 4 as well. They have the songs and Mementos variants for it. Why didn't they add some?
But hey, it's better to have some Persona spirits then none at all amirite?

I think the rest of the smash ultimate'll introduce new series into the game because each dlc fighter (other than piranha plant) will get their own spirit board and chances are there won't be many new spirits to introduce if there are already plenty of spirits from the dlc character's series so yeah

Love all the Persona 5 references
Weird I was expecting all the members of the phantom thieves to be primaries and to be upgradable. Like they start out as their civilian identities but can be leveled up into phantom thieves. Or in Morganas case I'd guess he'd be leveled up into a car. Thought the twins would be upgradable to but they're a secondary instead
I wanted to believe that it's because they are DLC but I'm pretty sure FE Three Houses had all three non-Byleth main characters being upgradeable. The bias shown is insane

All the spirits stages are based on the palaces you add them to your part in. Except for Haru, who could have easily been on lylat, but even sakurai doesn't want to acknowledge that dungeon.

Any auto-heal spirit
With this you not only start giant but also slowly heal as the fight goes on and the more you survive, the giant is great because with it added to cloud or inciniroar it can be deadly and made the phantom theives a breeze. I got to them in half the time it took u with that combo so u might wanna consider it

It's a legend battle. Most of them are unfair horseshit.
Honestly, Joker’s Phantom Thief posse gave me more trouble, but once I stopped playing as Mario and switched to Kirby (after several attempts as Mario) and made sure to have a spirit that healed me for scoring KOs, it took me two tries.
The Phantom Thieves battle was tough for me so I ended up using Ganon and my god it was a slaughter house

The Phantom Thieves of Hearts battle took me THREE DAYS TO DO
An easier strategy: pick Bowser, equip super armor, hyper smash attacks, disable items, spam attacks. Done

I played these Spirit Battles as Joker rescuing his fellow Phantom Thieves, overcoming the traitor, testing himself against the Twin Wardens, and defeating the false God… and then challenging the player to a final exam boss fight against his crew.
Even Joker has more spirits than Cloud.

but at the Inventory I already reached the 1360 (pokedex-like register) even the Labo Event Spirits and DLC spirits.
